“Fantastic time”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2013

Got back a week ago from a fabulous holiday in Cocobay with family & friends. The small boutique hotel was perfectly situated, with the private beach right at our doorsteps. Service was excellent and so were the tastefully decorated and spacious rooms (we got the aqua romance).

The hotel has a beautiful lounge area which suited our group quite well. Managers and hotel employees were quite accommodating as well.

The only reason I dont give a full 5 star rating is because of the food. Though the chef was super nice and catered to all our tastes, I didn't find it exceptional. Some dishes were better than the others.

I found this place very secluded with the beach very private. We enjoyed staying in the aqua romance room which was huge with a lovely spa and plunge pool. The dining was also a nice experience because they do have a chef who the comes round in the dining room and does suggestion and cooks the food too.

Room Tip: Stay in the aqua rooms or upstairs is good on the beach front.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 24, 2013

We spent 4 nights at Coco Bay Resort to end our trip to Sri Lanka, and it was just what we had hoped for - a relaxing stay in an upmarket hotel to finish on a high!

The rooms were great, with everything you could ever need supplied for you, with awesome sea views for the sunset each night. Service was amazing too, the staff couldn't do enough for us, and we even got upgraded to an Aqua Romance room with private pool! Massive thank you to the Manager Reny again for this :)

Highlight was definitely the Sri Lankan breakfast with the hoppers (order night before), enjoyed on the beachfront terrace with views across to Galle Fort. Want to go back just thinking about it!!

There were hardly any downsides at all, but the beach and the food did not quite match the high standard of the rest. Neither was bad or enough to ruin the experience by any means, but it just didn't quite make it a 5 star in our eyes (If we could have given a 4.5 star we would).

The beach is right on your door step and the water is nice and warm, but not as attractive as other beaches nearby (Unawatuna, Mirissa, etc) due to the direction of the tide in the bay (not their fault admittedly). However, Unawatuna bay is only 10 minutes by tuktuk so not a major problem.

The food was generally good, with a decent selection and well presented. The portion sizes were also more than enough! But the quality did not quite meet our expectations. For example some of the meat at the Saturday barbeque was half raw, and the desserts were often unappealing (stale profiteroles). We were super excited to go for the 6 course dinner on our first night, but weren't quite as excited by day 3...

We would definitely go back, as the experience was amazing. Truly great hotel, and with a few improvements could be an unquestionable 5 star. You won't be disappointed :)

Room Tip: Aqua romance room was great (thanks again for the upgrade!)

We stayed in October, 2013 for 3 nights for a fun family holiday. Very nice location next to the sea and rooms are very well furnished with a Jacuzzi in every bathroom. Hotel staff is very friendly and hospitable. The owner and his wife personally visit the hotel every day and interact with the hotel guests. The service was highly professional and outstanding. Food was also very good with wide choices. Our wedding anniversary happened during our stay there and all the staff personally wished us and we were presented with a complimentary cake and our bed was nicely decorated.

Room Tip: All rooms are good. Few rooms on the ground floor have a personal pool.

We stayed here in Oct 2013 and had an absolute fantastic holiday. You can walk to the beach, wake up every morning to the ocean waves. The one restaurant is open air, right by the beach. Food was fantastic and the Service - very warm. The Bar serves nice cocktails and bring it to you at the beach. Rooms are very stylish.

I would highly recommend this place for family with kids or relaxed holiday. Things that you could miss. Beach Activities you find on public beach but then the main Unawatuna Beach is near by. Having a foot massage by the beach would have been nice and could be a nice touch to have a lil open air place for simple foot massage or a back rub.

Food was great and stylish.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2013

As with all people in this day and age, my husband and I work in stressful jobs. We therefore relish the opportunity to get away from these every day stresses and relax and recharge. Hence, we decided to book a 5 night stay at Coco Bay. The experience for the first 4 nights was very pleasant - great room, great beach, lovely restaurant, small boutique hotel (approx 12 rooms) which felt very quiet even though it was fully booked. It was everything we hoped and more!

You can imagine our disappointment when on the last day / night of our stay the hotel was booked by a large group who noisily congregated in all the communal areas and whose children were so loud we could hear their shrieks inside our room, with the doors closed, as the children ran all around the hotel, knocking on our door and running away, doing bombs in the pool, throwing sand etc etc. We were further disappointed when we went down to attempt to enjoy our final dinner at the hotel to find that the whole restaurant had been set up as a buffet to cater to this group, complete with large communal tables. As there was no provision for us, (and no one had informed us of this) we retreated to our room and ordered room service - so disappointing when we were looking forward to enjoying a lovely meal like on the previous 4 nights.

We spoke to the man at the front desk and expressed our concerns, and we received a muted response.

My advice would be to check if they have any group bookings before you make your booking. Prior to this disappointing experience, we had already decided we would come back to Coco Bay for another stay in the near future. But after this, we will look elsewhere for a hotel that offers a peaceful haven for the price being charged. Honestly, if we had wanted noise, we would have stayed somewhere at Unawatuna Beach and saved ourselves a lot of money - not at a so called 5 star boutique hotel.

Just came back from our first trip to Sri Lanka on a family holiday and already we can hardly wait to go back again.

Found CoCo Bay through a very lucky Internet search. What a gem! Best location, not even 1 year old, beautiful rooms, good food, extremely friendly staff, just the right sized complex so you get plenty of personal attention and it has effectively its own private beach. This is the place to stay if you go to Galle.

Oh, if you are lucky enough to go there then say hello to Chelsea the CoCo Bay tortoise, who we found whilst walking along the beach.

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms have their own cordoned off swimming pool but we preferred the upstairs rooms for...
