“Great hotel, beautiful beach and delicious food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 5, 2011

This hotel is perfect for everyone who wants to relax away from stress and rush on a private beach but also wants to be close to other busy places.
The beautiful beach is quiet, clean and wonderfully unaffected. I came at a time (early April) I could even swim because the water was so calm.

However, you also have the opportunity to leave the quietness because there are many sights close to Aqua: Galle and Unawatuna can be reached in a very short time and also the Koggala Lake and the Spice Garden is worth being seen.

The hotel is new, modern, stylish and very clean. The staff is very friendly, courteous and helpful. And also the food is delicious (probably the best Rice & Curry I ever had).
I totally can recommend this hotel to young people and those who are young at heart. You won´t regret! :-)

The hotel is lovely. I was especially impressed by the thoughtful design and architecture. The overall look is modern chic, with a hint of sri-lanka's colonial heritage in the raised bungalow ceilings, sturdy dark-wood closets and plush comforts. The pop andy warhol-esque artwork depicting sri-lankan culture and faces is also an awesome example of fusion done right. The bed was stark fresh white and wonderfully comfortable and offered a direct view of the gorgeous sparkling ocean and sky. Overall, the Cantaloupe Aqua does a great job of marrying functional stylish design with comfort and warmth. Keep in mind it is a small boutique hotel, thus pretty compact and does not offer large resort amenities like a hot tub or huge pool.

The hotel is only 4 months old and I hope they keep up their quality and standards.
Some issues:
-The drinks were pricey and we didn't realize how pricey till we settled our bills at the end of trip, the reason being, they do not have a drinks menu (probably due to licensing issues). We wanted to know the prices but were never informed. I hope they resolve this. Otherwise, the menu also offers some good food options - thai red curry, mushroom calamari risotto, sri lankan curries.
- The pool was a bit small, so I would not recommend this place for families. We had a 1yr old with us, so didn't face any whining regarding the pool size.
- The ocean in front of the hotel is quite rough and full of rocks, so not ideal for a dip. We did venture out in the quieter spots a little further up though.
- I would recommend having a car and driver since there are lots of sights around galle worth a visit ( fort, turtle hatcheries, lagoon boat ride, elephant orphanages, etc) if you can get yourself to leave the resort.

Stayed here for 3 days and had the most relaxing, enjoyable time. We were put in a sea view room which was spacious and clean with a modern bathroom. The private beach was lovely but it also had a decking area which we used more. Staff very nice and willing to please.

Wouldn't reccomend staying here for more then 5 days as there aren't many activites (although the beautiful town of Galle and Unawatuna are not far).

From the first sight I had as I walked in the premises, I immediately knew that I would love the place. That picture of the beach and waves that was framed by the hallway painted in white said it all. Add that to the quality of service the entire staff had to the freshness of their seafood to the unique pop art that changes colors with the LEDs to the furniture that was carefully selected and you've got a winner. There is no better way to really describe it, best to experience it. And I'f you're lucky enough to meet one of the co-owners, then consider it fortunate.

If you are looking for a fun and fabulous hotel on your own private beach then this is the hotel for you! It is the perfect place to kick back and forget about the rest of the world and especially appeals to a young and modern crowd.
The beach out the front of Aqua is GORGEOUS and great for swimming. There is also a great surf break a little further along the beach. There are also lots of sun loungers around to enjoy the view and read a book and a small pool to relax in. There was a variety of room types to stay in and all were really modern with some unique design and art, plus they were only steps away from the beach!
During our 4 day stay at Aqua, we were looked after in every way. Nothing was too much hassle for the staff here. They went out of their way to tell us about everything we could do in the surrounding areas and were friendly and fun.
The meals here were also delicious, reasonably priced and a good mixture between western dishes, seafood and Sri Lankan specialties. The dining area is a cool spot with lots of pop art on the walls and good music playing.
Our holiday at Aqua was fabulous in every way and the only thing we would have changed was to stay longer!! Highly recommended for a beach getaway for both couples and singles!

If you looking for a place to get away from normality, to chill and not care about a thing in the world...then you've arrived! I'm talking about white crisp sheets shining lumirously as you open your bedroom door to your own private balcony overlooking 'Paradise'!!!!
Rough-edged designed bathrooms, which is always spotless and fresh white towels within your reach. C'mon thats all you need...the rest is up to you!

This modern, stylish hotel has young, vibrant and the utmost respectable management that ensures all your needs fulfilled. I stayed at the hotel while it was still in the 'teething' stages, there was a few 'hiccups', which is normal for a new establishment...but i still had a darn good experience. If you are looking for a place to relax and laze around during the day and party at night...this is the place!!!!

I recommend it anytime and definitely return to this exotic destination!

PS!! If you are "young at heart" and a no-moaner...this is where its at!

A truly refreshing boutique hotel, just what the new Sri Lanka needs!
After travelling for 2 months around the country it was an absolute delight to stay at Aqua; the comfort of the Aqua Zen room cannot be beaten and the choice displayed on the menu was astounding! The staff were attentive and the facilities absolutely spotless. The location is ideal as well, close enough for the fun of Unwatuna and the relaxing charm of Galle.
I will definately be recommending this fabulous place to all back home, and hope to come back myself!

'Due to unforeseeable circumstances, Cantaloupe Aqua being primarily a beach front property has encountered difficulties providing guests with direct beach access in front of the property depending on the time of year and the seasonal weather changes. Due to man made structures built into the sea on the coastal line and global warming, which has caused inconsistent patterns of sand deposits. Sea erosion has caused Aqua to lose it's beach during some months of the year. In the event the beach is inaccessible our front desk staff will be more than happy to offer you complimentary transport to the closest beach on the right hand side of the property, which is also accessible by a 10 minute walk' - Management ... more   less
