My room was lovely and large, probably the nicest room I had my entire tour through Sri Lanka. The bed was very comfortable and the lighting also very good. Bathroom was good size with good water pressure. The view from my room, facing the water, was terrific!
The hotel is located on the main drag so you do get a bit of traffic noise in your room but that's very common throughout Sri Lanka.
It was nice to be away from the main tourist drag but also nice that it was only an easy 5-10 min walk away. The pool was lovely, very clean and well maintained in a nice setting with little bunny rabbits.
The food and beverages at the hotel were very expensive, with water costing 200rps, 50rps at a corner shop. The food was tasty in the restaurant but very expensive for what you got and they didn't have a lot of the food on the dinner menu. Breakfast was a but woeful. To get eggs you have to line up for them to make them fresh to order, common throughout Sri Lanka, although the flies were everywhere and despite having two fry pans and a long queue the cook still only cooked one at a time with a supervisor just watching over his shoulder the whole time smiling at us, not helping.
I had laundry done at the hotel... To start with the people on reception did not speak English well and I took offense when they started laughing at me because I couldn't understand the terrible English they were relaying back to me. The laundry bag they gave me looked like it had been gnawed on by rats and subsequently the handle broke off. The lovely laundry lady brought my laundry to my room and I got to pay her direct however my clothes still felt damp when I got them out, like they had been taken out of the dryer just a little too early. I hung them around the room and they were fine.
Some of the staff gave us girls the creeps like they were watching us. One guy in particular kept hanging around in the hallway outside our rooms, the only two rooms at the end of a hallway to no where. The girls told me that he knocked on there door several times as a 'wake up' call, no one else got this on our tour. They didn't want to open the door cos they could see it was the same creepy guy. He later tried to sell them some Euro coins, no use to them. The next day he did the same to me. Knocked on my door to give me a towel I neither requested nor needed and when I said no thank you he tried to sell me the Euro coins also, no use to me either.
So aside from some staff issues the hotel was lovely and well positioned.
