“just what you need after long flight”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 22, 2011

Lovely relaxing guest house in Unawatuna. Stayed in Unawatuna before in the Neptune Bay but Palm Grove was ten times better at a fraction of the price!!! Unfortunately Lorraine and Paul were on holiday and the guy from a neighbouring guest house was managing the Palm Grove. Made no difference as the staff were very helpful. The breakfasts are great value for money. Best bit about it is you are living around the locals. Were visited most afternoon by a troup of cjheeky monkeys. The roof garden is something else. So peaceful. Will definately be returning and cant recommend palm Grove enough. Thanks for fab time.

Very friendly owner, nice central location, good breakfasts, a chill out terrace, wi-fi and an honesty-box fridge upstairs - this place is great but what makes it stand out is how comfortable it is. It is not a 4 or 5 star hotel but in your room it's easy to foget it is just a wee guest house. Big super comfy beds, good A/C and/or fans, plenty of hot water, four big white flufffy towels, big spacious rooms - having just come from other places along the coast this place felt so luxurious in comparison terms of physical comfort. The only other place we stayed at where we felt the same level of physical comfort was a 4 star hotel, the Cinnamon Lodge, which says it all. And then you get the bill... the stingiest backpackers might wince but the bill was extremely reasonable for the comfort, location, service, sleep quality and cleanliness of the place. We'd definitely stay here if we came back to Unawatuna, and can't recommend it enough.

Palm Grove Guest House in Unawatuna is run by a lovely british couple, Paul & Lorraine, who provide a very warm welcome & run their home in a very sociable manner, offering you plenty of opprtunity to get to know your fellow guests.

The guest house is beautifully maintained, is spotless throughout, with beautiful flowers & the sound of running water. There is a stunning roof terrace where you can breakfast up among the palms with the odd inquisitive monkey for company.

Excellent value, lovely quiet tucked away location (but not too far to the beach), & great company combine to prove a memorable experience. Highly recommended.

Clean and spacious with breakfasts fit for a king, the Palm Grove is fantastic valus for money and the most friendly and welcoming place we have ever stayed. Nothing is too much trouble and you just feel like you've landed in a tropical paradise but still near to the 'hustle and bustle' of Unawatuna. Thank you for all your help during our stay, hopefully we can afford to come back to Sri Lanka before the next life!

Palm Grove in Unawagtuna is a little gem of a place to stay. In a country which can sometimes be difficult to find clean accommodation (by Western standards), you can put yourself at ease when booking in to Palm Grove. The owners offer a warm welcome to travellers from all over the world and the place has an extremely friendly feel. The rooms are big and airy, with beautiful four poster beds with adequate mozzy nets. The bathrooms are immaculately clean as are all the communal areas. The two terraces are excellent places to sit back and relax after a day on the beach or a day off site seeing. There is an extremely social vibe about the place and often all the guests will gather for pre dinner drinks.

I would definitely recommend the place whether you are travelling on your own, with a partner or in a group. The breakfast is excellent in the morning and the monkeys in the trees certainly make it an interesting experience. With the property set back away from the 'main' road through Unawatuna, you get a lovely peaceful nights sleep, while the beach is no more than a 5 minute walk away. The hosts can arrange for tuk tuks, day trips, longer trips or provide advice and guidance on any aspect of your stay in Sri Lanka.

I would highly recommend a stay at Palm Grove as it truly is a home away from home.

Great little place, run by a charming couple. Immaculately clean and quiet; tucked out of earshot of an occasionally noisy beach scene. Free wifi and a breezy roof top hammock to chill out on. Highly recommended

Paul and Lorraine really know what western tourists want and they have created a beautiful guesthouse. Two beautiful terraces, large rooms and VERY comfortable beds which are hard to find in Sri Lanka. Free WIFI. AC was great with a nice quiet machine. Guest's belongings are very secure because this is a large private home, rooms are on the second floor, and there is even a cabinet with lock in the room. Only negative was finding the place because the address didn't seem to match up with the one on the website. Make sure you have their phone number handy when you arrive in Unawatuna. Definitely recommended!
