This review is a little late. I did not know about Tripadvisor then. Our family went to Karafuu during November 2011. What an amazing experience. From the moment we arrived until the day we were FORCED to leave, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
Seriously: The friendliness of the people were awesome. The waiters attentive, the restaurant staff efficient and very quickly we thought that we stayed at Karafuu all our lives. They attend to your every need. Their attention to detail, cleanliness and professionalism needs to be mentioned.
Negative: I gained 3kg. They give you too much food. They give you too much great food. They give you to much leisure time, just lying around oing nothing all day. Hahaha!
No...... there is absolutely nothing negative to be said about Karafuu. My heart stayed behind. I still miss all the friends we made there. Hashir, our very charming waiter, who would like to study further. Omar, the entertainment director, who became a brother form a different mother. Salum, our waiter at the restaurant, who always made sure that we were having enough to eat(my kids loved him). And Winston, a very special, kind man, who manages the restaurant. He made sure we were comfortable, attended to and always happy. And Freddie, always smiling, always happy to help.
Their rooms are luxurious, comfortable and clean.
I would go back tommorrow if I could.

My friend and I stayed here in Aug 2012 after a Safari in Tanzania. The standard of service in tlhis hotel is outstanding, we did not have to lift a finger, There was a great choice of food at every meal - you will not starve in this place. The hotel is spotless and the rooms are luxury. Thanks so much to Freddie in the restaurant and Mary in the Spa for looking after us so well!!!

My husband and I visited this hotel for our honeymoon after spending a week in Keyna on safari.

We arrived at Zanzibar airport (which is extremely small and quaint- TIP- make sure you know where your Yellow Fever certificate is when you land as the locals like to rush you through the airport) and were met by a Virgin rep.

We then arrived at the hotel were were greeted with a welcome drink and a fantastic honeymoon treat to have our room upgraded to a cottage suite facing the ocean. The room was just perfect and so romantic.

We did go out of season and experienced rain for one full day (we had a Tsunami alert). Didnt spoil our fun.

The entertainers tried their hardest to get everyone round the pool joining in the activities but it wasnt really for us.

We went all inclusive which started at 10am until midnight, so make sure you take bottles of water to your room at night to avoid paying for water in the morning. Drinks with breakfast are included in the AI option.

The food was outstanding, a huge variety and each night was a different theme including italian, masi (which was held in the masi village at the front of the hotel), seafood (which was out of this world) and many more.

The staff were brilliant and would bring drinks to you at the poolside or along the hotel's mimi beach.

We also went snorkling with the hotel on the coral reef, out of this world and you can feed the zebra fish with watermelon supplied by the Guides.

We also went on a day excursion booked with Virgin, whichi ncluded the dolphin tour inthe morning, we didnt see any but we did go two days after the Tsunami warning and the see was VERY choppy and then on to stonetown where your own guide takes you round. The tours run with 2 + people and the cost comes down the more people on the trip.

The country is beautiful and tourism is very new which means the locals dont persistantly try to sell you things, a polite 'no' is sufficient. Most importantly remember everything in Zanzibar is 'Pole Pole' (meaning Slowly slowly), this just adds to the character and enjoyment of a fabulous island.

My friend and I stayed at the Karafuu after climbing Kilimanjaro and needed a relaxing weeks holiday, and we couldn't have felt more relaxed! The hotel was beautiful and we couldn't have asked for anymore. The food was amazing- each night was a different theme, including sea food, a Massai dinner, a Swahili dinner and oriental. The continental breakfast was perfect, with a huge selection. The entertainment was brilliant each night, we watched an acrobat show one night, and Massai and Swahili shows another night. The staff were the best part about the Karafuu- so friendly and welcoming, they made an effort to remember our names and took interest in what we were doing that day. They all spoke excellent English. We made good friends with two particular members of staff which really made our holiday perfect. I would 100% recommend it!!
