Dear co-traveller,
we went to Emayani from Arusha on the advise of the owner of the hotel we stayed in Arusha. To make it short: it is magnificient and we would like to highly recommend it!
It was our honeymoon and we had a saying for ourselves there 'if this is not a honeymoon ...what is...?'
It is not very accessible by public transport, but there is in a convenient mini bus from the Outpost in Arusha to Tanga from where we were then picked up by car from the hotel (about an hour drive).
The Emayani has beautiful semi-open and very atmospheric bandas with direct view to the beach. It has a high standard with shower, toilet and is very clean, and bed extremely comfortable, while still leaving you the feeling of being in nature. When we were there, we were the only guests apart from another couple as it was not high season anymore. The place is run by Susann and Bastian, a dutch couple, that was extremely nice and caring while at the same time always leaving your space. Generally we found staff very friendly and always felt in good hands.
The highlight for us were the dinners and there beautiful set up. Imagine yourself sitting 10 metres away from the Indean Ocean, with the feet in the sand, under tropical milkyway, enjyoing a candle light dinner with your love (ie your newly acquired wife).
Emayani invites for swims, walks at the beach - hunting crabs at night (just kidding). The beach is just some 80 metres away from the porch of your banda! It has a number of other places in walking distance for a change in scenerie. We went there for lunch (including to Crab beach which was a nice place too): we looked at the others as well but liked our 'Emayani' clearly the most. We also went to a small island for snorkling with the dive center next door. This trip is highly recommended. It is a small tutrle island in the ocean and the turquoise water was a dream.
We went afterwards by fishing boot to Zanzibar (which was practical) and it went fine, but it is an 'experience'...
We stayed there at the eastcost in a nice place, but it could not compete with Pangani and the Emayani.
A last note: this is my virgin hotel review and I am not acqauinted with any persons involved. We simple liked it so much and we would not have found this place if it had not been on advise by somebody else. Generally, we thought that Pangani was much more charming than Zanzibar and for those who are willing to leave the beaten track this is certainly a good option ... Hope you will enjoy it the same as we did.
