“5-star all the way”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 18, 2012

Ohh, the food! this was the finest meal we had in all of South Africa during the 3 weeks we were there. We were surprised by the presentation and then the food itself. Dirk was a gracious host and we enjoyed staying where all the pictures and awards on the wall of his Springbok days. It was a great place to visit the battlefield of the Boer wars. Very quiet, with the night sky brilliant with all the stars.

Looking at Lennox guest house website, you may have the impression that you will arrive in a cute farmhouse, with animals around, nice gardens and flowers and that the rooms and environment will be at least 3/4 stars standing... as mentionned in the website on the front page :"Revel in luxury and build unforgettable memories..."
But it is not exactly the case, the environment is just the one of an active farm, and the room small and 2 / 2,5 stars standing with quite a high price. However it is true that the familly is really friendly and that the food is very good and really to remember (becarefull, wine not included and not stated).
Good place to stay if you are not looking for luxury but a welcoming place.

This beautiful old farmhouse houses a lovely family and Dirk, a former Spingbok international, is a great host. The guest house is a few kilometres from the unremarkable town of Dundee but we chose it because it is close to Rourke's Drift, where were were to visit a battle site. We were delighted by the friendliness of all the family, the brilliant food, a lovely game drive on the farm (where we saw giraffe and zebra and even found Dirk's missing kudus) and felt completely at home. Dirk's wife, Salome, can hold her own with any chef we came across in a two month stay in South Africa. It was a delightful stay.

Room Tip: Get a room near the guest kitchen in case you feel like a drink inthe middle of the night.

My husband and I have just had a recent holiday in South Africa and chose to base ourselves near Dundee as we were visiting the battlefield area. Right from the moment we arrived Dirk looked after our every need including taking us on a spontaneous tour of his farm and the animals (which included zebra and giraffe) . The rooms were very comfortable and we had booked in for dinner bed and breakfast. There are large comfortable sitting rooms and an attractive dining room , the food at every meal was excellent. Dirk and Salome could not have been more attentive. The setting of Lennox cottages is very scenic and easily accessible to the historical sites. We would have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending Lennox Cottages.

We stayed for 3 nights with Dirk and Salome and from the first warm welcoming moment we knew we would be in for a fun time. We were not disappointed. Welcomed with delicious home made cake and drinks, followed by Dirk driving us round his farm to see all his wildlife. The dinners that Salome prepared were the highlight of the day- brilliant! Breakfast was equally special. Dirk was a most marvellous host and looked after our every need, including showing us where the medical centre was for one of our party. They went out of their way to give us a splendid time.
Thank you for your warmth and great hospitality.
Gill & Jonathan

Stayed for two nights at this lovely place in the heart of the battlefields region. Dirk and Salome incredibly welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble for them. They also organised our battlefields tour. The accommodation is extremely comfortable and Salome's meals are incredible. Highly recommended and excellent value!!!!

Four of us stayed a night at Lennox Guest House when we were stranded in South Africa during the volcanic ash. We hadn't intended to stop in the area but we were so pleased we did. Dirk is an amazing host and couldn't have been more welcoming if he tried! He went out of his way to make our stay enjoyable and we got a really interesting insight into an Afrikaans farm. We were made to feel at home and managed to forget all about the stress of not being able to get back to the UK. We really enjoyed the cottage we stayed in, the full size snooker table and Dirk's delicious food. He even took time out to drive us round the farm to see his animals and to try and spot the meerkats. I can't recommend Lennox Guest House more highly, such a warm, friendly welcoming place to stay.
