“An exhilerating and fun day out riding trail bikes in the Central Otago Hills, near Queenstown!”
Just yesterday (02/12/11) and friend and I experienced a fantastic day out riding trail bikes in the hills of Central Otago.
Our trip included bed and breakfast in a very well presented unit situated only a few metres from Lake Dunstan, Bannockburn. The property was 'as new' inside, very comfortable with a double room and a separate room with one single bed and two bunks.
The continental breakfast provided was very tasty and set us up for what was a great day.
We had a warm greeting in the morning from Dave and his partner Janeen. After a little bit of paperwork we geared up and off we went into the fabulous countryside that Cenral Otago has to offer.
We rode on and off road along many dirt/gravel tracks with the occasional stop for snacks, photo opportunities and to learn a little about the gold mining history in the area. We stopped at some old huts and an old stamper battery which was once used to crush rocks to expose gold within. The scenery was outstanding and the ride along the tracks was so much fun. We took the Nevis Road, Hawkesburn Road, rode through Clyde before passing the oldest working Post Office in NZ before heading to Thompson Gorge.
Dave, the owner and our guide for the day had clearly turned his long time passion of riding bikes into a successful business and you could tell that he had as much fun as we did.
Our trip included a stop for lunch in the small town of Omakau for a tasty venison pie and drink. We covered 180 KM over a 6 hour ride and the sun shone all day.
I would recommend this trip to everyone who has a motorcycle licence who wants to have lots of fun on a trail bike.
The bikes provided we new Honda Rt 230cc trail bikes with plenty of power and comfort.
Dave also rents out touring bikes, sports tourers and Road King Harley's for tarmac adventures.
I will certainly be recommending this to friends. It was very good value for money.
