“Great friendly hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 4, 2012 via mobile

I stay here a lot on business and find it to be a great hotel. The staff are friendly and always rectify any issues that come up. The rooms are clean, beds are big, and has everything you need.

Restaurant serves great food and there are nice restaurants a few doors away too.

Avoid the rooms on ground floor overlooking the court yard as that's where people sit out til late talking.

Another very pleasant stay at The Crown this weekend. Excellent buffet breakfast on the Sunday. Keen and helpful staff. Clean and comfortable rooms. Spot on.

Stayed here after a day at Thorpe Park and paid for as part of a package. Two park tickets and hotel for 1 night was £120 so was not expecting too much from the hotel. The hotel was only a couple of minutes drive away and free parking was provided. Check in was very quick. The checkin staff advised that there was a live band playing in the pub connected to the hotel that night so there may be some noise in the courtyard (directly outside our window). We were given the room closest to reception and access the courtyard. She said that if we were to suffer any issues she would change our room so we wondered why she couldn't do this in the first place. The room was decent, small and warm. It was dark due to having to have the curtains closed all the time because of the rooms location. The bar/pub attached to the hotel was decent enough for a couple of drinks. The bed was very comfy and soft. The breakfast was just ok. Good selection but the quality was quite poor however this was included in the price. If we had paid £120 just for the hotel I would not have been very happy but considering the overall cost I can't complain.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that dosn't overlook the courtyard - just in case.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2012

Four of us stayed here Oct 2010 for one night (2 rooms) and it was good enough. Returned this month for another one night's stay (again 2 rooms) and things have gone down hill. The standard of the rooms and the decor are what you would find in a Travel Lodge / Premier Inn, however, Travel Lodges / Premier Inns tend to be clean.

Everything was tired and worn & the finish was slap-dash. Whilst the loo, sink & bath were clean, as was the bed linen, there were grubby marks all over the walls and doors, as though the rooms hadn't had a thorough going over for too long. The tea & coffee tray was a mish-mash of a few bits - one nescafe, three decaf nescafe, only 3 milks - as though no one was taking any care or pride in how things were presented. It was a double room but there was only one set of towels and when we requested more one bath towel appeared - no second hand towel. The desk light in the double room didn't work and the standard lamp in the twin room didn't work. There was a knob missing from the heating control. The bed was, however, comfortable.

Reception didn't volunteer information such as the WIFI codes or the code to exit the car park and we had been allocated two twin rooms, having reserved a double and a twin.
Breakfast was a let down. The bacon was frazzled, the hash brown was a no show with no explanation, the mushrooms were over-cooked. The bread for toast making was very nice and so was the scrambled egg.

We ate dinner here during our previous visit but not this time, as the quality was OK last time and the price reasonable but they seem to have inflated the food prices so that they are no longer competitive with the wide choice of decent eateries in the area.

The bar area is welcoming & relaxing. The beer is well kept and the house wine was good.

Overall this hotel seems to think it offers something special but I don't believe it delivers enough to warrant its prices. The owners have either taken their eye of the ball or are too close to the hotel to see that it needs a revamp. Won't stay here again.

Stayed here as it is supposed to be the 'best' hotel in Chertsey. ...wrong.

Horrifically expensive (rooms, food and especially drink!!!!!) NEARLY £10 for a large Hendricks Gin and Tonic!!!! Yes, £10 for a large gin and tonic!!!!!!!! What?!?!?

Staff are all young, rude and clueless and they all seem to be new?!?

Breakfast buffet on a saturday was cold, and either raw (eggs) or burnt (bacon)......
Dont go down to the bar for a quiet drink on an evening as the place had a live band and couldnt get moved. Even though i was staying here, I couldnt get an evening meal as the restaurant was hosting a party, and room service couldnt be provided because the kitchen was 'too busy!!!!!!' ....the cheek!

have stayed at the BOATHOUSE since, and had a fantastic stay, rooms were cleaner, cheaper and the food made the crown look like mcdonalds (sorry, probably an insult to mcdonalds!)

stayed feb 2012, first time, and most definitely the last!

Room Tip: stay at the boathouse!!!!!

From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel like the staff were trying their best to ensure we got the most out of our weekend. Great spot and we will definitely be back!
