We visited this hotel for our friends 50th birthday party which was being held here. We booked a deluxe double room as we liked the idea of having a view of the Thames and perhaps even a balcony as this was possible - the hotels own website promised us lots of luxuries as you can see below!
. Each Deluxe Room is equipped with complimentary laptop safe, tea and coffee making facilities, iron and ironing board, luxury bathroom toiletries, direct dial telephone and hairdryer. These rooms also have complimentary still and sparkling mineral water, and bathrobes for use during your stay.
However - when we arrived firstly, and after good first impressions of the communal areas, we were put in a standard room which was not good - not only was it not the room we thought we had booked ( according the very nice receptionist it WAS the room I had booked) but it smelt ( damp?) , the window opened up onto a roof which was littered with rubbish ( actual shopping bags of rubbish) , the window frames were covered in mould and the bed throw was stained. It was not a room I wanted to sleep in. We quickly established that we HAD booked a deluxe room ( thanks to the good internet connection )and the hotel admitted this and that they had made a mistake - but that they were also fully booked! We gave them some time to sort this out and they did - this we were grateful for and happily moved to our 'deluxe' room. Yes it did have a view of the Thames estuary but this was through the most horrendous hotel windows I have ever seen - again black mould covered the frames and the windows were stained with damp!. The rest of the room was fine and the bed was actually very comfortable. we did have a chair and a small sofa, the bathroom was very nice - and everything was clean but all the details , all the little 'extras ' seemed to have been forgotten. No bathrobes, in fact only two towels and a hand towel, one shampoo, one shower gel, one soap, ( luxury?) and no sparkling or mineral water! All a bit disappointing! But we were there to enjoy a party so chose not to make any more fuss - the party was excellent, the service, the food , the venue was all superb and at the end of a lively night we were very grateful to be staying in the hotel itself. We had a good nights sleep and the breakfast buffet was good and plentiful. We were also grateful when on checking out they offered us a token for the room mix up which was generous and to be honest , unexpected. I think the birthday girl had done a little 'prompting' on our behalf. So a very mixed review - would we stay there again? probably not!
