“A delightful place to stay !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 24, 2012

We stayed at White Rose Villa for two nights the weekend before Christmas so as to spend the time visiting relative in the neighbouring village.

From the moment we first contacted Viv and Steve by phone to make our booking nothing was too much trouble. Even when we contacted them to ask if we could arrive late morning rather than mid afternoon so we could attend our nephews school carol concert they willingly obliged.

The rooms are spacious, very clean with comfortable bad. Tea, coffee, hot chocolate and even Horlicks were available in the room.

The breakfast was probably the best I’ve ever had in any B and B. As well as a good selection of usual cooked items there were 7 serials to choose from plus yogurt and fresh fruit salad each morning. There was also a wide selection of jam, marmalade and other spreads to see you through the day.

I was very pleased to find ample off road parking, which for some reason or other they don’t mention on their website.

A very pleasant and inexpensive place to stay not too far from York which I would have no hesitation recommending to anyone.

We have just returned from our 3rd trip in 4 years to White Rose Villa. Viv and Steve the owners are perfect hosts - there if you need them but otherwise you are left to enjoy the peace and comfort of the house. We stayed in the Honeysuckle room which is on the front of the house and so looks out onto the main road but what little traffic there was did not bother us at all. As always the bedroom was spotlessly clean, comfortable and warm. Breakfasts were excellent with a choice of fresh fruit salad , cereals and juices followed by your choice of a cooked breakfast - the full English is delicious but there are many lighter choices if you prefer. Busses to York , the retail park or Selby stop about 50 yards from the house and run every 20 minutes. A day rover is £5.20 , fantastic value and takes all the hassle out of visiting York where parking is difficult ( and expensive!) . For eating out in the evenings there is a choice of two pubs that serve good food, or if you prefer Indian or Italian restaurants then there is also one of each in the village! When you get back to the house if you want to sit and chat to friends there is dedicated guest lounge with TV, DVD and a selection of books etc.. What more could you want ? ,,, the ideal place to take a York break in our opinion and we're already planning to return next year :-)

Room Tip: "Honeysuckle" and "Primrose" face the road and have shower in the en-suite. &quo...

Stayed here because every hotel in York was booked up and I'm glad that they were. The room was huge and very clean, the proprietors very pleasant and helpful and the breakfast was superb.

The local village has a couple of reasonable pubs and a decent Indian restaurant all within easy walking distance.

I would strongly recommend that you ignore the lure of overpriced city centre hotels that offer no personal service and come here to decent people who are bothered that you enjoy your time with them

Room Tip: We had the Lavender room which had a double and single bed for families

On our way to the Norfolk broads we stayed overnight, from Fife, at White Rose Villa.
Very clean and comfortable rooms, excellent breakfast and fantastic hosts. That good stayed coming back home, more relaxing than staying in York itself. Would also recommend The Spice Mill Indian Rest. in Riccall.

We really enjoyed our 7 night stay at the White Rose Villa. Steve and Viv were very friendly and
welcoming. The breakfast was delicious and the room very comfortable. We can recommend
this B & B. The Italian and Indian restaurants which are within walking distance are very good too.

I would highly recommend this B&B set just outside York. It was one of the few that took us in for 1 night, most places in York required a booking of two nights or more. Beautiful, spacious room (we had the Lavender), pretty views, and set in a quaint little village that boasts 1 Italian restaurant, 1 Indian and 2 pubs! The breakfasts were delicious and options innumerable (soft boiled eggs on the menu in addition to the usual full English breakfast, scrambled eggs, etc.), the home-made jams and marmalade to die for. Thanks Viv and Steve!
It’s a 10-minute drive into York where you can either use the Pay and Park, or park at the Railway Museum for the day (£9). On weekends, cheaper parking is available (around £2.50) so keep a watch out for those instead of the museum. Buses to York from the B&B are supposed to be frequent, but we didn’t use them.

Room Tip: Loved the Lavender room
