5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2012

My partner and I have stayed at the Forest View a few times and I am sure we shall again, it is a really well run establishment with welcoming staff, tastefully decorated, comfortable rooms in a superb location in the beautiful Symonds Yat. Our room had wonderful views of the River Wye.

There is a really nice walk through the woods up to the view point which has spectacular views over the Wye Valley that begins right outside the hotel.

Being an ideal place to stay for activities, the breakfast is perfect for preparing you for canoeing, walking, climbing and biking.

Highly recommended.

Really couldn't recommend the hotel enough. Room was was clean and had everything we needed. Bed was lovely, with thick duvet and 'proper' pillows.
We were in room 5 which has views both up and down the river and the views are stunning.
The hotel is well run and the hosts couldn't have been more friendly. We had a cracking breakfast at the hotel, and wished we had evening meal as well.
Can't wait to go back.

Room Tip: We selected room 5 because of the views over the river, so check the website if you wnat to preselec...

We have stayed at Forest View several times now, the food is good and the company even better.
This is an ideal base for walking in the forest, fishing in the Wye and cycling along the many cycle paths and routes that meander through the forest of Dean.

Room Tip: Most of the rooms have river views. Room 5 is the best room as it has a double aspect view of the Wy...

Stayed for a three night fishing break - what an absolutely wonderful place. John and Jill are great hosts and cannot do enough for their guests. The guest house has views of the Wye valley at Symonds Yat to die for. The food is great and the bar stays open as long as guest want to drink! The place is a little gem amidst a valley of gold. It is worthy of note that this guest house is not a fishermans retreat (I was the only one during my stay) but just an oustanding B+B. I will return with my fishing pals and also my wife! A tip for visiting fisherman - take the new self contained flat - sleeps three just right for a few days barbel fishing.

P.S. I hope that John uses the cheese paste I left - great for chub and visits Billy's Rock Swim!

Room Tip: All rooms are great the guest house is on the bank of the river Wye with stunning views - fisherman...

This was the first visit my wife and I have made to Symonds Yat.What a beautiful place which we really enjoyed. We had a room with a stunning view of the river and with the weather being good to us what more could you want.Bed was very comfortable and the evening meal prepared by John was excellent and great value. Both John and Gill were very hospitable hosts and the visit left us wanting more. Wish we could give more than 5 stars for some things.

Room Tip: A room witha view is a must.

We used to stay here as inspectors for the Ashley Courtenay guide years ago. We only live 40 miles away but fancied a walk in the Forest of Dean and a night out to celebrate our golden wedding anniversary. Gill met us at he door and took us to room 3 - a magnificent view both ways of the river Wye - spotlessly clean and well equipped - you preorder breakfast which was delicious with a lovely bowl of fresh fruit salad to start. We had booked a meal at the Saracens Head next door on Gill's advice which was also excellent. Gill and john have only been at Forest View for 6 months and if the very high standard they exhibit as hosts continues, then this really is the best place to stay in Symonds Yat.

Room Tip: Every room is perfectly described on the website for guests to choose exactly want they want.

We stayed with Gill & John for 3 nights in early September 2012, booked when we saw some decent weather forecast for a few days. We couldn't have asked for a better short stay at Symonds Yat - the Guest House is very clean & comfortable, the meals very nicely prepared by John, & the view from our room (6) down the river was just unbeatable. To have that same view from the breakfast/dining room was a real bonus. Gill & John are very friendly & considerate hosts, & helped to make our stay memorable, so thank you to them.
Whatever time of year you visit Symonds Yat, you'll always find the views stunning. Turn left out of Forest View down to Biblins Bridge & back via the ferry; or turn right, over the ferry & down to Yat West & the old church; or climb up to Yat Rock for the incredible views - you won't be disappointed. We'll definitely be back to Forest View!

Room Tip: Most rooms have a river view, but check out the descriptions on the web site - some are double-aspec...
