We were on the promenade in Llafranc two nights ago, on Saturday 8th June and used TripAdvisor to steer us towards a nice restaurant and found ourselves walking up the steps we'd earlier traversed en route to Palafrugell. With no reservation we were fortunate, on a Saturday evening on June 8th, to be offered a table for two, and sat down to very fine dining at a reasonable cost.
Service can make or break the dining experience and from the moment we were invited to sit in comfort to review the menus, we were treated with care and attention. We were sat next to a table of seven, there for a special birthday and enjoying the tasting menu. We, however, chose from the à la carte and shared the beautiful prawns in pastry before settling down to our main meal. When the wine arrived the cork was left on a platter - always a good sign - and glasses were replenished on a regular basis in moderation.
Our main pleasures were duck and veal - one having duck breast and thigh cooked with fruits of the forest and with a pipette of strawberry juice, the other with exquisite next of veal, edible flowers, and laced with honey and citrus fruit glaze.
The restaurant had a good buzz to it without being too noisy, the staff were busy but always attentive, and the whole experience was enchanting.
For dessert we chose the goblet of yogurt with lemon sorbet and almond crumble, a lovely palate-cleansing combination, and the intriguingly-named Dracula, more suited for a younger audience consisting as it did of Coca-cola jelly, chewy strawberry 'tagliatelle' and vanilla mousse. It was great for the sweet-toothed nonetheless.
For all this, and coffee/tea and truffles, we spent a shade over €100 and left, after midnight, with wonderful memories.
Highly recommended to anyone looking for a delightful evening meal.
