“Lovely area,”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 17, 2013

I have just returned from The Planamar 7th may to the 11th may. I went with my friend for a girlie few days a way. First impression was lovely looking hotel great location opposite the beach and a five minute walk to train station ( to the left as you leave the hotel). once we had our room key and entered our room very disappointed, we had three beds and the door kept knocking the bed on entering and leaving, the room although looked clean the floor had not been swept as there was a lot of big crumbs/stones on floor, very tiny room and very dark ( we was on the side of the building and could see the sea to the right of our balcony) major operation to open close shutters to balcony as so small(balcony). Very noisy at night you can hear every thing and everyone returning to bed in the early hours!! Beds were comfortable and we did sleep well. Breakfast was good lots of choice, help yourself to tea coffee, lunch chips and salad with fish/chicken most days, evening meal similar to lunch with additional meat, pasta. Dessert was the same every day Chocolate sponge, jelly, ice cream and crème caramel, mousse or rice pudding and fruit. The snacks are the same every day and every snack break chips, burgers and sausages!!! The pool was quite deep and not very good for young children and not enough sun beds but just go across the road to the beach!!.the entertainment was not very good so not really for young children probably best for couples or children 6 years and up to 12. Staff were great and very friendly. We went to the 4* Royal sun for lunch (pre book the day before as you can use facilities for the day and is right on the beach) wasn't impressed same food with more desserts, staff and guests more grumpy but lovely location. We didn't do Medieval night as I had already done this trip but it is worth going from memory. The shops to the left (near the station ) are a lot cheaper than to the right and you can get some real bargains (don't forget to barter) I managed to get gifts 40% cheaper, so give it a go!! I will return next time with my Hubby as it is a cheap hotel but at the end of the day you decide what you eat, there is a choice you wont starve. The alcoholic beverages included in AI are not usual strength and their version of Baileys was very drinkable!
Hope this helps,,,, cheap, cheerful and well worth the money in a beautiful location!

Stayed here from the 4th to the 11th may, no entertainment, tiny room, the beds were made every day and you had fresh towels but the rooms weren't cleaned, we didn't expect a lot regarding the food after reading other reviews so it was what we expected pasta, chips, salad and pigs cheeks. We did have 2 tidy meals. I would say it's a family hotel not for couples unless you want screaming children and getting soaked by the pool with water shooters. Animation team did painting and face paints with the younger children, I think suitable for children up to the age of 10, older children would be bored stiff. You won't have to worry about getting a hangover here you'd drown in the alcohol before you'd get drunk. Malgrat is very quiet this time of year hardly anything open, no disco's and the free bus to the other htop hotels don't start till the end of may.The staff were lovely you could have a bit of fun with them especially Jessica. The beach was all shingle so you wouldn't be able to take little ones there to build sand castles also you have to keep sandals on very rough on your feet. Maybe malgrat gets busier through the year but it was to quiet for us. Personally we wouldn't go there again.

Room Tip: We had a lovely view of the beach an the pool, but it was very noisy

what can i say you get what you pay for if you want 4* then pay a bit more, the food was edible you could always find something to eat ( they do cater for quite a lot of nations food wise ) it was very well placed for sightseeing and the sea front , rooms were small on the front of hotel just room for 2 single bed with room to walk round them but they did say if we wanted a bigger room we could swop to a bigger one on the back. all room very dated, very friendly staff they couldn’t do enough to help us the medieval night was a great night out. We would stop there again for a cheap holiday if you do stop here dont forget to ask for the fridge key this is free but you can then get cold water in the night.

Room Tip: try taking ear plugs to sleep in for a quite night in all Htops

My partner and I have just returned from Htop Planamar Hotel today, we couldn't fault the staff, polite, friendly very helpful, hotel is clean, maids do a fantastic job, bar staff great, receptionists helpful and friendly, the food was boring and sometimes looked a bit dodgy, it really let the place down. Not enough sunbeds. Location good, plenty of shops and markets although the shops are cheaper than the markets. Would recommend the Medievil night, well worth the money, we also did the decending bike ride for adults only, great if your into a bit of outdoor fun, try the Bodega bars their good. Beach nice. Hotel entertainment poor, animation team rubbish. You can book yourself in for a day in a 4 star Htop hotel and the bus starts end May, what a difference a star makes.!!! Hope this is helpful : )

Room Tip: if you ask for a sea view and get above the bar be prepared for the noisy bar and outsiders

On a recent trip to the Costa Brava region which we travel to at least twice a year. We got a cheap deal for the Planamar, 3 nights half board for 3 of us
O my god where do I start. We were allocated a room of the side street. Not cleaned properly.
Balcony tiny and disgusting.
Room looked liked it was last renovated in the 60s. As this was a H Top hotel I expected a better standard. you would think they would at least paint the rooms and replace the grotty furniture. Room was so small that you almost couldn't open the door properly. Food awful.
Staff ok - I felt sorry for them.
We booked out after one night.
Would not recommend even though it is very cheap - there should be some standards

Room Tip: If you are lucky enough to get a room at the front the balcony is larger

Still holidaying here at the Planamar Hotel, the rooms could do with updating, food isn't too bad. You can visit other H hotels but transport is not provided as stated, you have to make your own way there. Barcelona is an hour train journey for 9 euros return.... Well worth it. The only thing I could complain about is the guests, who have been really noisy arriving back in the early hours of the morning, the walls are paper thin too & you can hear their conversation..... Thank god that was the only thing I could hear!!!
The air conditioning doesn't work until the staff think they need it, apparently it's all centralised on one setting throughout the hotel.
If you want a cheap holiday expect what you pay for

Room Tip: As far away from the reception areas possible!

Went to Htop planamar for 5 nights 27th april-1st may for my 21st birthday with 6 friends. Was so cheap £120 for all inclusive and flights! All we wanted was somewhere to sleep drink and sit by the pool in the day in the sunshine. We ideally wanted to stay in barcelona but worked out much cheaper staying here and getting the train there. The train was only 4.55euros one way and 9euros return. We would pre drink at the hotel (make the most of the free booze) which was really good you could have wine, larger, whiskey, white rum, dark rum, vodka, malibu and a daily cocktail. get the train to barcelona at about 7pm drink more on the train and stay there until 5:45am when the first train ran back. barcelona is definitely worth a visit such a good place! nights that we didnt go to barcelona we went to the clubs down the road which are about 10 min walk. HTOP was clean and rooms were a good enough size for what you pay. The only bad thing was the food, was shocking..only go all inclusive for the drinks! even the chips were stale and like cardboard so we ate out most the time. staff were very friendly and the pool is real nice to sunbathe by but really cold! dont expect an amazing hotel but it will do for a long weekend in the sun and very good for the money!
