“a bit tired”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 30, 2013

Stayed at this hotel 14-24 September had a harbour view worth the extra if you can afford it.room was a little small but very clean .Staff all very friendly and the food was very good, lots of choise.

The hotel was quite busy with lots of walkers but this was not a problem as they were out all day.

Room Tip: Harbour rooms are the best

Our second visit to this hotel in 2 years. On both visits reception has been excellent, room of good standard and the food very good. If possible get a room with a view out over the harbour. Tables are available outside for breakfast and evening meals

Stayed at this hotel from 14-21 September following a tip from a friend who has stayed here three times in the last couple of years. Great location overlooking Mahon harbour with the added bonus of only a 15 minute taxi transfer from the airport. Staff were courteous and helpful at all times particularly those manning the reception desk. Good size room and bathroom with lovely views over the harbour. Good breakfast buffet with plenty of choice. We prefer to eat out when abroad and there are plenty of excellent local restaurants within 15 minutes walk of the hotel along the harbour front. We easily found a different place to eat every night! There are a number of steps down to the harbour front right in front of the hotel but a two minute walk to the left of the hotel brings you to a newly installed lift if you do not wish to walk. A short 15 minute walk brings you into the centre of Mahon. The hotel has a small pool with more than enough sun loungers for the number of guests who wish to use them. The nearest beach is at Punta Prima a 20 minute journey by local bus. We came here looking for a good relaxing break in the sun and that is exactly what we got. If we were to return to Menorca I would be more than happy to stay here again.

Our 1st visit to Menorca, so the initial prime experience began at our hotel, Port Mahon. We stayed for 10 nights in September 2013 and thoroughly enjoyed every minute. Our room had a wonderful views over the Harbour, a constant changing scene. We were upgraded to half board on arrival and all our meals at the hotel were excellent with plenty of choice and variety. All the staff were courteous, friendly and helpful no matter what the request. Thank you all. We were always made to feel welcome and at home. Should we return to Menorca then there is only 1 destination for us. The Hotel Port Mahon.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front of the Hotel overlooking the harbour have excellent views

Stayed here for 11 nights at the end of August. From check in to departure could not really fault anything, the staff were always helpful and friendly. Our room overlooked the pool and part of the harbour which was excellant . The breakfast buffet was good with plenty of choice. We didn't have any other meals in the hotel as we like to eat at different places during our stay. Only thing that was a bit anoying was that if you want tea or coffee in your room you have to pay extra for it. All in all a good clean hotel much enjoyed.

We stayed at the Port Mahon for one night, after being upgraded from the Hotel Agamenon in Es Castell, due to an overbooking issue. We were delighted to be offered a suite in the hotel, and it was clearly a smarter hotel, despite both being marked as four-stars.
On entering our room, we were delighted. The high ceilings and tasteful, muted tones gave a beautifully calm feel, and our large terrace overlooking the harbour was lovely. The pool area was generously furnished with loungers and an adjoining area had chairs and sofas under cover, if required. However, being right next to the road, the pool area did not have the complete feeling of peace that we would have liked. This was a little moot, however, as the weather wasn't ideal for sunbathing more than a couple of hours, but it would be something to consider for other guests interested in this hotel.
As mentioned in my review of the Hotel Agamenon, we were looking for a break with complete quiet and calm. I have to regretfully say that the Hotel Port Mahon did not offer us this. Despite its showy exterior, there were some problems that tainted our stay.
There was little sound insulation from the corridor, so any guests passing, even when talking at a normal level, seemed like they were in the room with you. We could also hear guests talking in the room next to ours. Also, our room seemed to have drainage pipes in the walls all around, as at regular intervals, we would hear flushed water coming down in any one of a number of places. Finally, the gardeners started mowing the lawn and trimming the hedges outside our window, very loudly with petrol-engined equipment, before 7:30am. Not ideal for people trying to rest! We heard other guests complaining about it over breakfast, although they put it down to motorbikes on the street outside.

Breakfast was above average for a buffet affair. A good selection of hot food, as well as toast, pastries, bread, cheese and sliced meats, fruits and yogurts was available. The coffee, which was from a pot rather than a machine, was still rather bland, so I would suggest offering sachets of caffeinated as well as decaf instant coffee for those who prefer it a little stronger, but all in all, breakfast was fine.

The hotel is located a short stroll from the local cafes and restaurants, although the most direct route does involve plenty of steps, which some people may struggle with. We found a couple of lovely tapas bars on the front which offered good food at great value.

To summarise, the hotel and room looked lovely but needed some significant sound insulation upgrades to allow it to live up to its promises. It is well-located and has good facilities, but I would not be interested in returning; I would rather return to the slightly more humble but significantly more peaceful Hotel Agamenon.

We stayed at the Hotel Port Mahon in Menorca from 9th - 16th September 2013. It is a lovely hotel set in a beautiful location overlooking the harbour. The staff were all helpful and friendly, our room was kept clean and tidy and the breakfasts were very good. We did not eat evening meals at the hotel but fellow guests were fulsome in their praise about the buffet style meals.

As a previous guest at the hotel has done we would like to make special mention Martin, the main barman. He has an ideal personality for his job and his customer service was excellent.

Many of the guests when we were there seemed to have stayed at the hotel before. We would undoubtedly do so ourselves should we return to Mahon. Everything about our stay at the hotel (apart from the weather not being as good as we had hoped for) was excellent and we have nothing but praise for it.
