Arrived after a good flight and long wait for transport to hotel to be told they did n't have our reservation. After a long thirsty hungry wait we were given our all inclusive bands so that we could eat and drink while the hotel sorted the booking problem. Eventually we were told there were no rooms that night and we would have to stay in the 5 *hotel down the road. As we had booked all inclusive we would have to come back to the Tropic Gardens to eat and drink but could use the other hotels facilities.
Not ideal for the children and my elderly parents but at least we had 3 rooms for the night ! The rooms we were given in this 5* hotel over looked a service road and other buildings but it was only one night.
The tropic garden reception staff told us to come back with our cases at 12.30 the next day and assured us our 3 rooms would be ready. We did this to be told they were n't ready . Eventually at gone 3 we were allocated 3 rooms, 2 over looking the pool 1 the kids club. One room had a leaking air con system which was mended but on the last night the toilet broke (wouldnt flush) this was nt mended before we left so my parents had no loo !
We did complain in resort and after 4 days eventually got to talk to a manager and were compensated. The reception staff were pleasant but totally ineffective fobbing us off constantly.

The entertainment staff tried really hard and some were very friendly. Not all the entertainment translated to the english humour well and teenagers were not aways allowed to join in day time games ! There wasnt much for our teenagers to do.

Food was ok quite limited choice and basic but waiting staff very good in all areas. Drink choice ok.

As the holiday progressed we discovered many other people who had been over booked and stayed in other the hotel on the first night, a group of 16 in particular (we were a group of 9). We talked to others who had to wait for their rooms on arrival but did get them eventually .
The reception staff attitude and many problems spoilt this family week away it was nt the relaxing fun holiday i had expected..

Finishing on a good note we bumped into some people we knew who had nt had any problems and althought they did nt think there was much to do in the evening had had a good holiday and got a room on arrival without a wait !.

  • Liked — room was good
  • Disliked — not having a room on arrival

Five of us stayed at the hotel in June 2007 - The rooms are very nice, well equiped and regularly cleaned.
Food was nice - we were on a half board basis - plenty of choice, hot food and friendly staff.
Heavily geared to those on an all inclusive basis - ie holiday camp type dancing by the reps each morning at 10.00 am followed by requests for you to do aqua arobics, normal arobics, volleyball - water polo etc.
If you said no however you were left alone and not hassled. Predominently a German resort - but this was not a problem despite what others have said - they were friendly and polite and all announcements were in German, English and Spannish.
All activities were around the pool area which becam very hot as due to the shape of the hotel it acted like a giant windbreak trapping the heat.
A very good hotel for those who are happy with a pool type holiday in a pretty quiet resort out of peak season.

A little tip for those smokers amongst you - You can only buy cigarettes from the "tabac" shops of which there are 3 in the town - other shops do not sell cigarettes - also if you arrive on a saturday take some ciggies with you as the tabac closes a 13.00 hrs on Saturday and does not open again until 9.30 on a Monday morning. Some cafe's do sell cigarettes from a vending machine but they only have spannish cigarettes in them. Also you cannot just put you money in the machines you have to ask a member of staff to turn the machines on for you and then you are allowed 30 seconds to make your purchase - strange but true!!

  • Liked — Cleanliness
  • Disliked — Seemed a bit like a holiday camp with all the activities - Heavily geared towards those with Children

Lovely holiday in July booked though www.holidaynights.co.uk. Great pool and mini disco for 2 year old. Loads of pretty well behaved teenagers for our 2 16 year olds to spend their time with. Combined with the German teen club they were hauled into straight away for loads of sporty stuff - we hardly saw them

Beach is a bit of a trek to town but adverturous of spirit can climb down the crumbly cliff in front of the hotel to a pebbly beach with an adequate patch of sand for a 2 year old to dig in

Food was good 4 star all inclusive standard with excellent pizzas and show cooking each night. Wine was drinkable but bottles are half price on all inclusive

Entertainment was heavily led by 123 Fly the german team but everything was translated and all were included.. Could have been a bit irrirtating but after a day or two and the odd beer, it was quite amusing

Wouldn't go here on self catering as its a trek to town and only one bar nearby but all inclusive , it was great.

Apartments were clean and comfortable but a bit on the small side for more than two. Big balconies with sea views

We're just back from a week in the Tropic Gardens in Santa Eulalia, and were slightly disappointed. The complex sold as4* (by Thomson) and while it's all very clean and well kept with good facilities (tennis, volley ball, spa) and helpful staff, the apartments are definitely only 2 or 3 stars.

We went self catering so can't comment on the food, but the poolside snack bar has NO food at all, so go to Mango's seafront cafe (turn right out of the exit/lobby, walk for 150m, lovely views, nice and quiet, reasonable choice on menu, good value) for lunch/breakfast if you're self catering. Alternatively there's a well-stocked minimarket across the road from the hotel.

My main complaint about the hotel is that it's NOISY. The kids club kicks off early every morning with a super-loud kids song in German on the tannoy, followed by announcements of the day's "activities" in three languages. very annoying. The one evening we were back before 11pm (we wanted a good ngiht's sleep before travelling back) we were kept awake by a ridiculously loud "Quiz Night".

Santa Eulalia is a nice little town, the marina is the best place to eat with a number of good restaurants. There isn't much nightlife, but it's only 15/20 mins to Ibiza Old Town where there's plenty to do. Magdalena's (100m from teh hotel, out of the lobby/exit and turn left) has really great food, focused on quality & healthy eating and a great spa. Bambuddah Grove (San Joan, €15 taxi) is expensive but a glamorous celeb-haunt and open until 4am, as is l'Elephant (San Raphael, €20 taxi).

The nearest beach from the hotel (which no-one bothered to tell us about) is called Niu Plage, it's about 500m walk (past Mango's and follow the sea) adn is beautifully clean with two restaurants; one family/good value restaurant and one higher quality (Bora Bora) which takes reservations. Once we found the beach we left the noisy, child-infested hotel for the peace of the beach.

  • Liked — clean, good facilities, convenient location
  • Disliked — noisy kids, poor quality bedrooms/apartments

Booked this hotel because of all the (mainly negative) comments about
it being a "German" hotel. Thought it would be nice to be in a hotel without too many Brits. Unfortunately times have changed and about 40% of the guests are now British with the rest German and a small sprinkling of Spanish.

Nice pool area although quite a bit of sunbed reserving going on (Germans and Brits). Lots of kids in the pool kicking footballs and throwing hard objects without worrying about hitting anyone (all Brits). Quite a nice indoor pool pretty small but that didn't stop gangs of kids from dive-bombing into it (you've guessed it - all Brits)

Food not bad but not great when compared to other hotels like the Sol Ibiza next door. Mini disco was nice with the kids from different
countries getting together. Yes, German is the language spoken most often by the holiday reps (1-2 Fly), but they are German after all. It is unfair to suggest that they do not make an effort to include other nationalities because they do. There is also an in-house Garden entertainment team and they seem to work very well alongside the 1-2 Fly lot.

Apartments nice. I e-mailed the hotel beforehand asking for one on the top floor overlooking the pool. That's exactly what we got, it had a fantastic sea view and a huge balcony. Only criticism would be that there was only one very small wardrobe for four of us.

Most of the staff (especially reception) very friendly and multi-lingual. All in all, not a bad hotel and by booking direct on the Garden website we only paid £450 for 8 nights half board for 2 adults and two kids. Won't get much cheaper than that in the half term holidays.

Anyway, for all you people moaning about the Germans, this hotel may be well on the way to being right up your street. Have fun but I think I'll give it a miss.
