“very much depends on the room”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2011

I booked this hotel on the internet with thomas cook but was not given a choice to pay the little extra to ensure a room with a sea view. I later made the request through their web site but was told it couldn't be guaranteed. Same story when I phoned the hotel direct before leaving.
We didn't get a sea view when we arrived and in fact were put into a room above the entrance to the hotel in the part of the hotel which has extremely small narrow balconies with a view of other high buildings. Hot weather and no air conditioning meant the window was open all night and the traffic sounds made sleep difficult. I would not recommend this part of the hotel to anyone! On our third morning I talked to our T. C. rep and within an hour and on paying 30 euros extra she had us moved to a high sea view room. It astonished us when we entered this room. Was like a completely different holiday and we loved every minute from there on. All else about the hotel is very good for a 2 star and the position on the beach is just great.

Room Tip: Request a sea view when making your booking

ive got to admit i felt i took a bit of a gamble when i booked this hotel ,it being a two star i feared the worse ,but im so glad i did book it .when we arrived we found out we had one of the back rooms and they didnt have a sea view available .so we took what we was given and made the most of it ,yes it was hot ,we arrived in a heatwave but they provided a free fan and we left the door open .the staff at this hotel were friendly and helpful right through from the ladies that cleaned our room to the hotel manager who always said hello .at the start of the holiday we was given a table in the resturaunt and that would be our table for the rest of the holiday which suited me fine i knew where to sit .and it was always clean .the food was fine we always found plenty to eat breakfast and tea .the rooms are basic but cleaned everyday .the location is fantastic right on the beach and right at the start of the seafront so its a lovely walk to the marina .they gave us a room on our last day to shower and change in free of charge as we had a late flight .we stayed at a 4star thomson gold hotel in june and ive got to say although i enjoyed it i prefered the riomar .everybodies different and some people you just cannot please ,but i went on holiday to be outdoors not looking for negatives and had a great time .

Room Tip: sea view rooms are worth the extra the views are fantastic

Just back from this Hotel with my partner. It had the potential to ruin our holiday. The only redeeming feature about it is its location backing on to beach. The weather was very hot, which was great, but it also meant that we could not sleep at night as the patio door had to be left open in order to breath and the constant noise kept us awake. There is no air conditioning in bedrooms. There is one electrical socket in the room which is located behind furniture. In order to plug in hairdryer or mobile phone this furniture had to be moved. Stupid or what??? The proximatey of the bathroom to the bed is somewhat of a concern and health and safety issue as there is no ventillation or extractor fan in bathroom. Taking water to the room in order to keep hydrated in such hot weather proved to be difficult as it was so hot the water heated up very quickly and was unpleasant to drink. I asked for cold water at breakfast but it was unavilable. 'Orange juice' at breakfast is worst than the cheapest diluted squash. No tea or coffee pots available. Variety of food on offer for breakfast was limited. Dinner in the evening was basically the leftover breakfast with potatoes, rice or pasta and some variety of meat added. Reception staff not very helpful. Bar staff pleasant enough. Now on to the 'manager' - the rudest, most unprofessional, badly presented, arrogant business person I have ever encountered. I asked if is was possible to have fresh orange juice or cold water at breakfast, which we were willing to pay extra for and he went into a rage screaming to get out of his hotel and go to a four star. His behavour was deplorable. He left me feeling quite threatened due to his erractic behaviour. We subsequently had no choice but to move. It made what was supposed to be a relaxing week's holiday very stressful. It is my opinion that this hotel should not be used by tour operators until basic health & safety standards are put in place. It is just not acceptable. As I said @JUST DON'T GO THERE EVER'

Hotel Riomar is what the majority of reviewers say - basic, very clean, great location, average food. Travelled as couple with 2 children; 5 and 14. After 4 days managed to swap our airless, pokey room for a room with sea view and it transformed the holiday; the two rooms were like from different hotels. Yes, the rooms are basic but kept very clean with fresh towels daily. The public areas again are basic but would add, have a certain traditional charm to them. Reception staff helpful and sorted both my requests efficiently; move of room and late check out. Kids loved the pool and had no complaints from them. Lots of food and varied but not great quality - tinned ravioli and tuna for instance, but we got by. Air con and better food would improve this hotel 100%. Nevertheless, would definately return. Great holiday and resort. Phil & Sandra, Rotherham - sorry we missed you, looked for you on your last day! The family from Sheffield! x

This hotel is good value for the money. Although no air conditioning you soon adapt, a sea view is recommended as it is cooler in the afternoons. There were a lot of negative reviews about the food, but we found it perfectly acceptable, and we are quite fussy. The staff are quietly efficient , and hotel is very clean. One suggestion we think the bar should close earlier that 2 a.m as it can be noisy trying to get to sleep overlooking the terraces.

Room Tip: Pay extra for a seaview room

This hotel is much better than we had expected for a 2 star, with ceiling fans or air con it would probably be a 3 star. We were lucky to have a sea view room, if we were not given one I would certainly have upgraded for 30 euros as not only is the view lovely but you get the breeze from the sea and a nice balcony. We only had one fan in our room which meant the nights were fine for one person and just bearable for the other- would have been nice to have air con when getting ready or coming back from the back but we knew the hotel did not have it so can't really complain about that. We booked a room that sleeps 4 (through thomas cook) but requested a double bed and were given two twins next to each other which was great. Heard somebody complaining about staying in a room with 4 beds crammed in. Rooms were cleaned to a high standard and towels and bedding changed every day, cannot complain about cleanliness at all. The food was fine- what we expected really, hot food wasn't amazing but there was a big choice and breakfast was great. Also the swimming pool was tiny, but we chose the hotel because it overlooked the beach and paid 10.50 euros for 2 sunloungers for the day, so didn't really go in the pool. Overall we had a lovely holiday and the Riomar was great value for money, but would either rent another fan or come in low season if i was returning to santa eulalia again.

Room Tip: Pay more for a sea view room.

went for two weeks, were do i begin?Room bog standard, dated,no air-con,bath or should i say half a bath with a step inside it???Shocking furniture, the balcony doors, outside all the fake wood effect was peeling off!!
Had to move room,as was right to lift, made so much noise when anyone used the lift!Even the rep said they had problems with the room ,as it was next to the lift!!
Took four days before i got a move to another room!!
the new room was the same, shocking, same as first room!Im thinking come on guys this hotel is seriously in need of a DIY SOS!!
The staff ,well one or two were rude!Too busy sitting at the reception,on the computer on FACEBOOK!!,whilst i tried to complain about the noise in my room!!
Not even any wifi either, this is 2011 not 1960!!
That wasn't all, other people staying there let their kids run along corridors late at night, also doors slamming,so hard the plaster fell off the walls outside the rooms!!Seriously the plaster fell off!!
The food was another shocker, same rubbish every night ,tasteless ,bland, cold when it was supposed to be hot,ate out most nights, had to sit were they told us to,weird,so was stuck in a corner to eat!Had FLIES,yes Flies ,around whilst we ate,and dead flies on the window sill, were the window slides open!Complained staff was rude, tried to keep me quiet, but i was having none of that!Spoke to manager,he was hopeless!!Did not have a clue!
Swimming pool ,well that was so tiny,so was the area for the sun loungers, maybe about 20 odd if that loungers!
I would honestly say DO NOT STAY HERE ,its a dive, for what i paid i should have asked for a refund,if you wanted a sea view room ,they wanted 30 euros!
I have stayed in plenty of hotels and this was one of the worst,i think the chefs need to go back to catering school and learn some new recipes, food was clearly out of the huge catering tins!!
They did not even change the table cloths, had dirty one on for at least two days!!Disgusting!!
As for no air-con,this is old fashioned, you need air-con as most days it was extremely hot & humid, had a cheap fan,and that was broken so had to get another! But that was a waste ,so slow and did not help!
I think who ever owns this hotel needs to shut it down and do a full refurbishment soon as!!
Maybe i should get the HOTEL INSPECTOR to pay a visit!
PURE DUMP!!
MY ADVICE IS DO NOT STAY HERE GET SOMEWHERE BETTER !!TOTAL DUMP OF A HOTEL!! WHO EVER GAVE IT 2 STARS MUST HAVE HAD THE BLINKERS ON!!!
AVOID !!!
