We went to the La Cala in September 2006 and loved it. It was our first choice when we decided to go back to Ibiza and it was the right one. The hotel is spotlessly clean, the food plentiful and with a good choice and tasty - the salads in particular! And the breakfasts are great too, the toaster is an experience, might be slow but you can get talking whilst you are waiting! And you will meet other British as well as Spanish, French and German, in fact this hotel seems to cater for a fairly international set of clients. The pool area is well maintained but smaller than average, but the beach is so close by and that is clean and surrounded by the huge supply of lovely bars, restaurants and ice cream sellers so who needs the pool??
I would say that the hotel isNOT suitable for children, there are no entertainments for them or facilities, although there were families there when we were there and they seemed to get along with what was on offer. It is predominantly couples and groups over the age of 40 at this hotel.
The entertainment in the evening is not good. A piano player or a singer maybe twice a week. Could not understand those who spent every night in the hotel because Santa Eulalia is gorgeous!!! Get out and see the place, the bars are great, the staff in them are friendly and the food standards are mostly high. We loved the Bar Dona Ana by the harbour and the Atenea bar which is right on the promenade overlooking the beaches.
You need to know that the resort is actually a working town not just some tourist resort... you get to shop, eat and play with the locals. Go out on the weekend evenings and you share the promenade with them as they celebrate the weekend, The locals are friendly and it is an absolute pleasure to be in a place that is free from hooded kids standing on street corners.
Try one or two of the restaurants in the restaurant street (Calle San Vicente). We went to Daffers, great value for money and great food too.
What can I say about Ibiza itself?? Not just for clubbers or drunken kids - avoid San Antonio as it is awful at night other than going to watch the sunset which is as spectactular as claimed and everyone applauds as the sun goes down, very cool!
The rest of the island is gorgeous, great beaches, lovely towns, the capital is super cool and good for an exploration of the old town and the harbour. Buses are cheap and mostly run on time.
So what if they don't run on time, are you in a hurry? Judging by the wide wide vareity of ages coming to the island when we were there, the idea that this is for clubbers is wrong.
If you get from this that I love the island, the resort and the hotel you are right. I do and I can recommend it highly enough to say that if we ever win the lottery, there is a house somewhere in that town that we will be living in! Go and enjoy!!
