My wife and I recently spent 7 plus weeks traveling in the UK and Europe staying in several hotels and BnB's during this period of time.  The Quinta Tapada do Gramacho in Silves Portugal which is where we spent 4 nights is in the top three of all the places we stayed.  Karin and Imca are wonderful hosts and make you feel right at home.  While they are there to assist they do not encroach on your privacy.  
The rooms as described in their web site are truly funky.  Our's had a bright blue wall and bright red chair.  Our room was large, clean and comfortable with several amenities included.  Another great thing for budget conscious guests is that if you wish to make your own lunch or dinner the kitchen is available to do so, of course you must clean up.  
They offer an honour system for wine, beer, water, and other snacks which is great.  The pool, outdoor BBQ are also available for guests to use.  
The location is very remote and a car is a must if you want to travel to the Algarve or other areas for day trips. Since the Quinta  is in a remote location be sure to follow the directions provided by Karin.  I failed to read her email with the directions and paid the price by wasting a few hours looking for the place.  
The breakfast is very good with fresh squeezed orange juice a true  highlight.

The other highlight was the daily visit by a local goat herder as he walks the valley with his dog and goats.  I was lucky to get some incredible pictures.
During our visit the Quinta had families with small children, couples and singles from various parts of Europe.  We all sat around at the end of the day and enjoyed the wonderful location and great conversation.
I would highly recommend the Quinta to anyone.  Thanks Karin and Imca for making our stay so memorable.
 

We loved our stay at this quinta in March. The large living room windows overlook a large marsh, in which one could watch egrets, among other water birds. The hosts were extremely helpful in every situation, making suggestions for restaurants (be sure to ask!) and providing telephone help when required. A special meal was prepared one evening by Imko's chef brother, and it was absolutely exquisite. Morning breakfasts included delicious breads, homemade preserves, eggs and many other goodies. Karen and Imko were very friendly and made us feel extremely welcome. The beds are comfortable, and the rooms open out onto the outside. We stayed in the "Funky Algarve" room, which was decorated in an offbeat but fun way. It is away from town lights and is very quiet - star gazing is definitely good here, and the call of the frogs at night is a far cry from city sounds!

The B&B is well located, just 15 minutes from beautiful beaches but well outside of the 'stone desert' of some of the villages on the coast --- very pieceful in green surroundings. The renovated farmstead is close to Silves, a charming historic city with attractive bars and restaurants.
The B&B is renovated with a stylish hand. The owners are very friendly and helpful, yet do not impose themselves on their guests. They have young children themselves, and it made my young family (3 childeren under 5 yrs old) feel very much at home.
