Stopped by here for something to do one lazy afternoon. When in Portugal we thought we should make an effort to visit a winery and this one seemed to be close to where we were staying. We definitely got much more than we bargained for. When we arrived we were met by a friendly lady who explained that we could walk around the grounds self-guided and gave us a map and details to help us on our way. She explained that there were many art exhibits located around the grounds which she also gave us details for. And even more - there was a farm too - where we made friends with goats, llamas, antelope, pot belly pigs, horses and even a kangaroo!! After exploring for at least an hour, we had booked to do the full tasting and tour. Knowing little about the process of making wine, our guide provided great insight and taught us a lot and increased our appreciation for wine. We loved hearing about the history of the vineyard as well. The guide had a real passion for what he was doing and was very knowledgable with a lot of experience. Worth a visit there. It is free to visit the grounds, art exhibits and farm, but we would recommend paying to see the process inside and to have the guided tasting. The wine was excellent and worth the excess baggage on the way home!!!
Would recommend a visit there. If with kids, just visit the grounds - they will love it - the art exhibits are ones they would enjoy exploring, and the animals are very friendly too.
