“Great value basic apartment set in lovely gardens”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2013

This was our fourth time staying at these apartments, and yet again we had a lovely relaxing stay. Admittedly, they won't suit everyone - e.g. people who prefer a more central location, or a bit more luxury, or maybe more of a party atmosphere - however, they suit our needs down to the ground. We hate high-rises, so the low-rise nature of the complex is perfect for us. The apartments are well spread out around picturesque gardens. We also like a bit of peace and quiet so the location, a 15min walk from town in a quiet residential area, also suits us fine.

Pros: low price, washing machines in all apartments, air con at no extra charge (which we used a few times during the october heatwave!), spacious apartments with large balconies, decent pool, friendly helpful staff.

Cons: distance to beach - the 35 min walk would be hellish in the daytime heat (we had a rental car), lumpy pillows (yes they are god-awful).

We always request an apartment at the back of the complex, where it's quieter - e.g. block H9. However this can add up to 5mins onto the walk into town so depending on your preference you may want to request an apartment closer to reception. We also prefer upper level apartments that get lots of sun - some of the apartments are north facing and get no sun so if this is a concern to you make sure and request one of the non-north facing apts.

Most importantly, I would suggest that if you find yourself in an apartment you don't like, that you request to be moved (we did this once when they put us across from the nightclub/restaurant in one of the pokier apartments - they were very obliging and moved us straight away).

In summary, these apartments are excellent value - if you're looking for luxury you may need to look elsewhere. But if you want a no-frills base for your stay in Alvor, these are perfect.

Room Tip: Apartments at the back of the complex are quieter but can add up to 5mins onto the walk into town. R...

We booked the Luna Clube Brisamar before reading the reviews and so we were a little apprehensive but we had no need to worry. The staff were very friendly, the apartment was very clean and spacious and was cleaned every day. The Brisamar is about a 15 minute walk into town but is very well lit. We got our apartment in Block H6 which is opposite the Reception and pool was located just across the road from our apartment so it was an excellent location. However, we did go for a walk around the Complex and the apartments at the back were very isolated which I would not like. If booking try and get an apartment over the Reception or just across from the 24 hr reception.

This is our third time to stay at the Brisamar and I don't think I would stay anywhere else in Portugal. There a good changes such as the hidden charges being reduced to just 55 euro for two weeks and the new staff are more friendly than last year. However the check in time has been delayed to 4 in the evening. We had been up for over 30 hours when we got there (at 11:45) so we weren't pleased about the check in time but the apartments are still the best. Part of the attraction is the washing machine that is in every apartment as well as the air conditioning that are both free in the room. Great stay and great place!

We stopped at the Brisamar for a week from 30th Aug 13 1st impressions were great the staff on reception were very informative and the complex had nice well kept gardens and all the blocks of apartments weren't on top of each other. We had a 1 bedroom apartment which had large rooms and a decent size kitchen and bathroom. It was all very clean but basic in its decor which was fine with us as has been said before you get what you pay for. Over all we were happy to start with we had a kettle and toaster (free) but we did have the lumpy pillows but you get used to them. The problem started on a night our apartment was on the ground floor and sure enough a family moved in upstairs and the banging and scrapeing started not only that we were near the complex enterence not far from the road and traffic noise and dogs barking was an issue early morning. After a couple of broken nights sleep we asked reception if they had a upper floor apartment available else where. We arn't the sort to complain but it was spoiling our holiday so we went to The lady on reception who asked for 1/2 hour to see what they could do and sure enough they sorted us out a top floor room further in the complex which was spot on and a full nights sleep was had for te rest of the week.
We were self catering so can't comment on the bar or food but the pool area was nice and big with nice large pool. Sunbeds were never a problem to get although there was a lack of cusions to lay on the beds to have a nice sleep on. I recommend a massage with the big guy I had a torn hamstring and he gave it a good seeing to and he knew his stuff for only 10 euro a session. Its a nice 10 min walk into the town and a further 15 min to the beach but its not too bad and was ever a problem. If you enjoy walking I can recommend a walk to the far end of the beach where there are some lovely coves and the boardwalk at te other end goes to the harbour enterence for some great views.
All in all its an ok Hotel you get what you pay for, if you want luxury don't come here but a value family holiday or couples on a budget its great if you can secure a top floor room away from the road. or if you are deaf. The staff are fantastic so if you have a problem ask and they will do there best to help.

Room Tip: Top floor apartments away from the road.

Just back from a weeks all inclusive stay (last week in August). After reading the reviews before hand i was worried to say the least having stayed in good & bad places before but what an all round great 3* Clube Brisamar is. To be honest im finding it difficult to relate to certain points people have. We were greated by friendly staff at reception on arrival who explained everything. We stayed in block 17 (206) which was around 100m from reception & bar, in my opinion i preferred it as we didnt hear any noise from the main buildings. Our room was light & airy, clean & tidy, decor wasnt bad either! The cleaners were brill too, they came every day & always made our room smell nice with cleaning products. They came with new towels and made beds daily too. The surrounding gardens were very well kept, all neatly cut & watered which was nice too see in such a hot country. The restaurant & bar were very clean and relaxing, food served was different day in day out, giving a wide choice every day which was nice. The pool side was also spotless with lots of sun lounders, one good thing about the pool was that it opened at 9 & no earlier so nobody could come early & hog the loungers. Music played round the pool was a wide variety of old & new with portugese too. The volume wasnt an issue for me it certainly wasnt too loud. Sometimes people asked entertainment staff to turn it down which they did so at once. My 5 year old son loved the entertainment, he got stuck in everyday & become fond of the staff who were very friendly & spoke very good english!! There was alot of portugese around the pool but to be honest they were on holiday too & they were very friendly!! So all in all thats our experience.... NOTHING BROKEN.. NO ANTS.. NO DIRT.. NO NASTY/UNFRIENDLY STAFF.. NO LUMPY PILLOWS.. NO YUKKY FOOD.. i could go on and on.. and the bottom line is *** you only pay for what you get *** if you want 4* or 5* go pay the prices.... :)

The Luna Clube Brisamar is without doubt the worst place we have ever experienced. Having gone all inclusive was our first mistake. All inclusive at the Brisamar is obviously a concept that is not understood by staff or possibly the Luna organisation. People often say that all inclusive food is very ‘samey’ at the Brisamar it is not ‘samey’ it is the same, for lunch and dinner – six options – fish, meat, rice, chips and two choices of vegetables There was a salad bar but again only six options and pretty much the same every day. Dessert was the same for at least four of the seven days we were there. Breakfast was acceptable but only because there was the continental selection (croissants, toast etc) the cooked breakfast is worth missing, we never expect a typical British style breakfast but at least is should be warm/hot and edible. Perhaps there was some respite in the choice of drinks – alas no. One bar and I counted about 10 bottles of various spirits on the shelves (see photo of bar area) but ask for a drink and an unlabelled bottle is pulled out from under the bar – paint stripper is less lethal – of course there is the local beer on tap which is no better. There was a rather nice indoor bar with a huge selection of drinks, sanctuary, but alas no, if you are all inclusive you are more than welcome to sit in there – but don’t take your all inclusive drinks in there as you are not allowed and if you want a drink from that particular bar you have to pay for it!! Seems all inclusive holiday makers are only allowed to obtain drinks from the outside bar and can only consume them outside. So don’t expect to be able to have a quiet drink in relaxed surroundings, see below re why. We had our two teenage kids with us, aged 15 and 16. Entertainment for them was provided according to the brochure both day and night. What entertainment they had was abysmal and not aimed at teenagers, the pool area was overcrowded not by holiday makers but by the locals, at times it was standing room only in the pool itself. Seems the clue is in the name ‘ Clube’, it was used as a club by locals who came in their droves and used the pool, bar and facilities – any holiday makers didn’t stand a chance. Add to that the incessant music played over a large and very loud speaker from 10am until 11pm, it would have been more bearable if the music was varied, but no – same tape/c.d. every single day! The accommodation was passable, but do not allow yourself to be fooled by the pictures on various websites – what you see, is not what you get, not even close. The bathroom was far below acceptable (see photos), mouldy corners, surface of bath peeling off, plugs broken off, no lock on door, you had to wipe your feet on the way out of bathroom it was that bad. Main bedroom wall lights were hanging off the walls and despite problems reported to reception – nothing was sorted out. Oh and yes pillows are no better than sleeping on a very thin wafer – cushions on the sofa bed made a better alternative. Sheets on the beds changed once a week, towels supposed to be every other day but not if it’s a weekend, so dirty towels it is, if you factor in suntan lotion etc it’s nothing short of un-hygienic.
Would we go here again? Not a chance in hell. Would we recommend it as a place to stay? See above...

After always being sceptical about reviews, I didn't read too much into various review sites such as tripadvisor etc.

However, in this hotel's case, they were mostly correct.

The rooms are basic, not really very well maintained. Patio doors unable to be locked, fixings missing, damaged, dirty. Pillows were (famously) lumpy and uncomfortable, beds broken. The list was really quite endless.

But, in fairness, I believe the hotel has recently been bought by the Luna group who inherited good only knows what. No excuse though. If you're not ready, don't open.

Food was very basic and repetitive. All inclusive wasn't all inclusive with an argument ensuing over some bar snack payment. Bar staff (apart from one or two) mostly not friendly or helpful.

Kids entertainment the worst I've ever seen. A joke to be fair.

If you aren't hiring a car, it's too far away from anything without taxis. We had a car fortunately.
