“Great accommodation, location, facilities, food & staff :-)”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2013

We were travelling with other family members and had booked 3 x 1 bed apartments six months in advance on a half board basis (for convenience). We requested quiet rooms located near to each other. I contacted Alvorferias in advance of our stay as one of our group is coeliac, a prompt reply was received advising 'we are not prepared for this type of diet and do NOT cater for any special meals'. After receiving this information I carried out some research and found a great website that does 'foreign food cards' www.celiactravel.com and printed out the 'catering request letter' which I had translated into Portugese using Google + printed out restaurant cards in Portugese. I also found out that Pingo Dolce do 'Sem Gluten' products and when we visited here, we showed them the letter and they showed us to the correct section.
Upon arrival we were allocated rooms in 3 different blocks a distance apart from each other (reception side), requests cannot be guaranteed and we were all happy with the apartments we were allocated. 2418 - 2620 - 2674 (pictures are of 2674). We found the bed not the most comfortable but probably because we are used to memory foam!
For our first evening meal we were greeted by a friendly staff member and he read the letter, talked with the chef and discussed the menu with the person who is coeliac. So so helpful and reassuring, Cristiano looked after us throughout our holiday and is a credit to Alvorferias, he made our holiday with regards to dining much easier. The food is superb, you have a half board menu to chose from with a selection of fish - grills - pasta and includes 'starter, salad, main course & desert'. The food was cooked fresh, sometimes a wait if busier but that is to be expected. Would recommend half board. The breakfast was self service cereals/toast/tea (coffee not so good) and you order your cooked breakfast. The girls on breakfast very helpful and friendly.
The pool area near to reception is busier and kids jumping of the bridge, parents/staff do need to stop this happening as it is an accident waiting to happen. Warning signs are in place though. The snack bar is good & toasties yummy. Happy hour on beer 7pm-8pm 1.50euro 40cl. Otherwise 3 euro, the red wine is nice & 2.50 for approx 250ml. BBQ night on a Tuesday is nice and the food good.
The bar and pool over the footbridge are quieter and more relaxed, we ventured over this side more (drinks slightly cheaper?). Sunbed mats 1 euro each & worth it for comfort. Pool lovely temperature. Weather most days was 25 - 30c.
The town is a 10 minute walk away with a selection of bars/restaurants & shops.
The beach is about 15 minute walk, go to the left hand side of the beach and explore the caves and rock pools, lovely chilled out beach with some nice beach cafes.
The bar on site is reasonably priced and happy hour for beer is 8pm - 10pm. Ricardo is fantastic. Entertainment is varied between live music/karaoke/disco. We sat outside most nights and listened from a distance.
If you want air con, you pay a 30 euro deposit for the remote & safety deposit box is 10 euro for a week with a refundable deposit of 15 euro.
All in all a great week away with family, we hired a mpv and travelled to several sites, places worth a visit are: Sand Sculptures - Silves castle - Lagos - Monchique + Foia (highest point) + Praia da luz to name a few.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms above reception & facing the bar due to noise

We stayed here at the end of August me my partner 3 kids age 13,10 and 3. We haven't been to Portugal before and was pleasantly surprised when we arrived! The rooms are a bit dated but I didn't go on holiday to sit in my room all day! The cleaners were in every other day and the room was spotless and spacious. All in all a great holiday. Only negatives were no sunbeds I think people left them on all night and were not removed! Also the air con which you had to pay 15 euros for dripped a lot of water outside onto the balcony!!

A friend and myself spent 10 nights at this hotel SC based on some reasonable reviews on Tripadvisor and the location in relation to the beach/town of Alvor. We were very impressed!

The hotel was exceptionally clean in all areas and the apartments were of a very generous size - bedrooms had a balcony and also a spacious built-in wardrobe, the kitchen was huge and living/dining area was more than enough. We also had two balconies however they werent particularly large and weren't used. The rooms are basic but definitely served a purpose for what we needed in our holiday - we only really used our apartment to sleep and get ready for the day/night.

There are two pool areas - the one on the reception side of the hotel is much busier and louder - it also has the advantage of a restaurant/snackbar. The opposite side however is much more relaxed but also with a small bar where drinks can be purchased. We preferred the quieter side, where there were more sun loungers available and less crowded.

Finally, the location of the hotel is really good. It took us 5-10 minutes max to get into Alvor which was ideal - however on the way back it is slghtly up hill. To get to the beach, depending which route you take, it is about 10-15 minutes away.

Alvor itself is an amazing place and i would reccommend it to anybody. Perfect place to chill out or for a lively night - you are spoilt for choice when it comes to restaurants and bars.

I would definitely return and i would certainly consider using Clube Alvorferias again.

Room Tip: reception side of hotel is busier/louder - ask for room across the bridge if you consider this an is...

If you are looking for a quiet, relaxing holiday don't go to the Clube Alvorferias!
My husband and I spent a week there recently and we are only now recovering from the experience. Having read lots of reviews about the complex ,we requested an apartment in the quieter block across the bridge from reception. On arrival we discovered we had been allocated an apt right above reception...beside the road...overlooking the pool and 100yds from the bar!! The complete opposite of what we had asked for! When we asked to be moved ,we were told it was impossible as the complex was fully booked but we shouldn't worry about noise as it was the off season and there would be very little noise. We decided to give it a try..the apartment was indeed very spacious and quite well equipped. The first evening was quiet but unfortunately that was the only time it was. The rest of the week was completely ruined by loud music from the bar which went on until 3.00 a.m. and children running around shouting and screaming.
We complained to reception every day and asked to be moved but they made no effort to accommodate us elsewhere in the complex.
So if you want a holiday with lots of disturbance during the early hours ...then this is the place to go!!

Apartments clean and spacious, limited hair dryer available, so bring your own, shower hot. good size swimming pool, plenty of sun beds one euro for soft sunbed cover. Good value for money, about a ten minute walk to Alvor really nice and quante, lots of nice bars and places to eat. I would go back to the resort and say at the same apartments.

We stayed here for 2 weeks at the end of August.
As I had read loads of reviews of this place before arriving I e-mailed the hotel before setting off and asked if we could have a room across the bridge from reception as this was the quieter side.
We got what we asked for and had a lovely big apartment with both pool and sea views. The apartments are well equipped and are really spacious, probably the biggest place we have ever had.
There is plenty on site such as 2 pools, a supermarket, a couple of bars and a restaurant.
The location was great too, a 10 min stroll into town, just long enough to work up a thirst for that 1st cold beer.
We really enjoyed our first trip to Alvor and would definately stay at these apartments again.

Room Tip: The rooms on the other side from reception are quieter.
