“Alvor Village”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2013

Stayed here for the first time first week in October, normally book the Luna Alvor Bay hotel but it was full. Glad we got here, instead. I didn't realise it was the same group, same standard as the Bay. Great room was large with 2 ac units one in bedroom area and one in lounge area. Tv on a swivel so could be watched from bed or the sofa. Fully equipped kitchen with everything you would need if self catered. Nicely appointed bathroom, with the added bonus of a jacuzzi bath!. Huge balcony. We had the pool view but as it was low season the whole hotel was pretty quiet. Staff helpful and polite, gave us all the info on check in about the shuttle to town, although we didn't use it. It was a pretty stroll, but I imagine in the heat of the hot summer sun it could be a lot harder.
All the staff we encountered were very helpful and friendly. I can imagine the lack of sunbeds caused havoc in the summer but as it was the end of season there was plenty of availability. Breakfast was good, strange there was tinned fruit, but other than that a good selection available. Overall I would definitely return, as it is exactly what I need in a holiday hotel.

My wife and I stayed at the Alvor Village Hotel for 9 nights at the end of September. Our impressions were very mixed and not quite as favourable as some of the other reviewers. First of all the excellent sized and well equipped appartments cannot be faulted. In addition to all the kitchen equipment including coffee maker, kettle, microwave, hob and large 'fridge, there was an iron and iron board provided (without charge). There are two independent air conditioning units, one for the lounge and kitchen area and one for the bedroom area. These are efficient, quiet and included in the price. There is also a room safe which is an extra at 2.5 euros per day.

The buffet style breakfasts were good with plenty of choice of both hot and cold food on any one day and some small variety from one day to the next. The snacks that were available from the bar during the were also good value and on one day during the hotel provided an endless complimentary supply of Madeira Wine and Cakes. It was not clear whether this was a special celebration or a regular feature!

So what were the downsides? The information provided on arrival was minimal. Nothing to say that the room safe was chargeable, nothing about the shuttle service. There was no information about the hotel in the room. Is there a fitness centre somewhere? The grounds of the hotel are disappointing and the path down to the pool is through the puddles created by the hotel's irrigation system. The reception desk is often not manned particularly through the evening when you want to collect your room key. If more sun loungers have been provided then no wonder there are so many complaints on this site because there were only just enough on sunny days in late September. Although the rooms were 'cleaned' every day and bed linen and towels were changed regularly, the cleaning was perfunctory and the whole process completed in less than ten minutes.

It might just have been that it was coming towards the end of season but we just got the feeling that the hotel was not well managed and really needed someone to raise the bar so you felt that the hotel was trying to make your holiday a wonderful experience. This was not evident during our stay but there are some wonderful restaurants in Alvor and the beach and board-walks make up somewhat for this hotel's average performance.

We have just returned from a week at the Alvor Village hotel. The staff were all very helpful and friendly especially Ruben the evening receptionist who gave us good advice on things to do.
We loved staying here because it is the opposite of big, multi-floored impersonal hotels. It is three floors with a bit of a fourth floor. We had a great room which was very spacious with a large sitting area with kitchen and a large bedroom area. Our balcony overlooking the pool was absolutely huge.
Breakfast was good. We particularly enjoyed having 100% orange juice which is often not available. They also had a variety of breads and rolls including a good quality brown bread. Again, this is not always available abroad.
If you like staying somewhere small and low key, with a peaceful pool area (no blaring music), then this is the place for you. Thank you to all the staff who made our stay so enjoyable.

Room Tip: Pool view rooms were sunny.

Arrived at alvor village on the 29th Sept it was our 1st time at this hotel having visited alvor more times than I can remember,,, met by lovely lady on reception had a beautiful room overlooking pool very modern and clean with huge balcony. Towels changed every day breakfast was more than we could eat with loads of choices on the town map it looks miles out of the town but in reality it took us 10mins to walk to the centre 30mins to the beach but the hotel has a free shuttle bus to the beach or taxis were about 4 euros. We will definitely return

I reviewed this hotel after a stay last year which coincided with the last week before the hotel closed for the winter. My wife and I spent 10 days in May of this year which coincided with the reopening of the hotel after the winter break. I did not feel the need to review again as I would have been repeating the points I had made in my previous review.
My wife and I have just returned from another visit to this excellent hotel and noted that management had taken note of the number of criticisms with respect to the pool area. The number of pool beds had been increased as have the number of umbrellas. Although we again did not personally suffer in getting a bed it may be that the management, during the winter break, could look at the problem again and increase even further in the supply of pool beds and umbrellas and by doing so put the major criticism, that many seem to have, to rest once and for all.
My review would not be complete without a mention once again about the friendly staff with a special mention again to Isobel and Claudia in reception.
If any more recommendation is required for anyone considering booking this hotel we have already booked to return in May when the hotel reopens and this time we are introducing friends to it.

Room Tip: All the rooms are large with those overlooking the pool getting the sun in the morning and those ove...

I hate being negative but our stay in this hotel was awful. The first night the constant barking of dogs surrounding the hotel was an issue and the staff kindly moved us to a different apartment. The new apartment had a lovely pool view but the air con unit belonging to the neighbouring apartment had its outlet fan on the balcony. Our bed was on the wall behind this and the noise and vibration of the fan went through our heads all night. Neither of us slept and my other half is used to sleeping through noise as he works nights. There is no sound proofing whatsoever. We were desperate for some sleep at this stage and decided not to let our holiday be ruined so we checked out on the second morning and moved to a different hotel even though we had prepaid for 9 nights and lost our money.

On a positive note the apartments are clean and well equipped and about a 10-15 min walk from Alvor, which is a lovely town.

We visited at the beginning of September and our general impressions was of a very modern and clean hotel. The rooms were extremely spacious, which included a dishwasher, jacuzzi bath, air con and a large balcony overlooking the pool. The flat screen rotating telly was also great. We had no trouble at all sleeping here as the beds were very comfortable. The cleaners came in every day too, and were very polite. The same must be said of the rest of the staff, who were extremely helpful, and the free shuttle bus to the beach was a great idea, and was used on quite a few days by us.

We chose the b & b option, and were very happy with the large choice of breakfasts that was available, both hot and cold.

After reading reviews on here, we expected to have some trouble getting a sun lounger, but this wasn't really the case, most probably as it was the beginning of September. We did notice many going down to the pool early morning to place towels on them, but we always managed to find one, even later on during the afternoon.

There was also a hotel bar which we went to most nights before going out. This bar was quiet, but as there are quite a few bars and restaurants down in the village, I'm sure the majority opted to go straight out, instead of having a few drinks at the bar first. This was a shame as there was a lovely seating area outside.

Overall we had a very enjoyable stay here at this smart hotel, and would not hesitate to come back here again.

Room Tip: We chose to pay extra for the rooms facing the pool.
