“lovely hotel for couples, shame about a few small things”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2013

Returned last week from a seven night stay at the Luna Alvor Village. Our general impression of the hotel was very good, the hotel was very clean and very modern, with friendly and helpful staff. Our room was spacious with air-conditioning, which came in quite handy. The room was cleaned every day by friendly and polite maids. The pool area is nice, the water is very cold so be prepared for that! The only downside being the lack of sun-loungers, we were just about alright getting loungers but I'd imagine in July and August that it would be a different story.
The slight downsides to the hotel were that it's quite a distance from Alvor and the nearest shop is a 5-10 minute walk away. In the room, our description stated that we would have a flat screen tv, yet when we arrived it was an old fashioned box style tv. The room has plenty of utensils, including a coffee-maker, dishwasher, spa bath, fridge-freezer, ironing board, yet no iron? There seemed to be no mention on the hotel's website that you were required to pay for an iron. We paid to have wi-fi in our room, but the reception was quite poor and didn't work in certain spots of the room. Food-wise we only ate lunch at the hotel, which was very mediocre. The selection was poor and the quality wasn't bad but not what you would expect of a 4-star hotel. As mentioned in other posts, this fitness centre doesn't seem to exist.. maybe it does, but it would be very well hidden with no mention in the hotel lobby!
In general the hotel was a lovely place to relax for couples, and the resort itself is a beautiful place with plenty of quaint little restaurants, bars and shops.

Room Tip: Pool facing rooms have a much better balcony view.

Have just returned from a 10 night stay at the Luna Alvor Village after visiting for the first time last July. The rooms are very large, clean and have a full kitchen. We also liked the large balcony which has a table & 4 chairs for dining outside. The pool view studio was perfect for myself, husband & 3 year old son. It was cleaned every day with fresh towels. The breakfast was also very good with a great selection every day, from pastries, yoghurts & cereals to cooked breakfast items. The location is great with a nice 10 minute walk into the centre of Alvor with numerous excellent restaurants to choose from at great prices.
We will definitely return again in the future !

Room Tip: Pool view rooms get the sun in the morning !

We travelled to the Algarve for 8 nights to have a bit of a break after a pretty stressful year. We don't normally do typical 'beach' holidays, but having booked the flight slast minute, all we were looking for was some guaranteed sunshine, pretty places to visit and some great food. We spent 3 nights in the sleepy coastal town of Burgau, one in Portimao, then 3 in Alvor, during which time we stayed at the Luna Alvor Village.

We chose the hotel because it seemed to represent good value for money for a 4 star hotel- modern, clean looking rooms, a good sized pool and only ten minutes walk into the centre of Alvor, and a car drive or free shuttle to the bach. The hotel lived up to all these expectations, even if we didn't spend too much time in it, or indeed in Alvor itself (which is a little too Brit heavy for us...)

I didn't experience any of the sunlounger problems other reviewers have mentioned, but this is maybe because we travelled at the end of the season- I can imagine in peak times that the pool area would get quite busy.

Breakfast was just ok- nice fresh juices and a wide variety of breads/cereal/fruit/yoghurt.

The only real moan I have is that the wi-fi throughout the hotel was not free. This just seems unnecessarily cheap, and was annoying as we like to plan trips/visits/evening meals by having a look online as to what is in the local area.

This was only a small complaint in what was otherwise a pleasant, good value for money hotel in a good location for exploring the central Algarve.

Room Tip: Ask for pool facing, the view is nicer and it's a bit quieter!!

Just returned from alvor, great apartments, staff very helpfull especially Ruben, the cleaners were in everyday, everything in the apartments worked, free aircon, which was great, bbc tv if you want to watch tv!!! Alvor town is about 10,to 15 min walk away depending on which way you go,the beach is about 30 min walk from the hotel, taxi cost about 3 to 5 euro well worth it if your coming home late at night only takes about 2min in a taxi,,the day before we left we did notice that there seemed to be more sunbeds and umberellas at the pool,we never used the pool as we like the beach, restaurants in the town are lovely tried loads of them Atrium 53 is amazing!!!! best food and staff were lovely,No patio, was another favourite of ours need to get a taxi to that one though,But its only minutes, ribs are the best in town,

Room Tip: choose a pool side room if you like the sun in the morning,we stayed in room 109,no noise at all.

Stayed at the Alvor village over the August Bank holiday and once again I have to say this has to be one of the best value hotels we have EVER been. Nothing has changed since last year (which is a good thing) and the hotel has a real contemporary feel.

The only criticism remains over the number of sunbeds although this was only the first couple of days and then we had no problems.

Alvor remains a perfect resor for families with a good mix of bars & restaurants and has managed to keep the charm of its fishing village background.

Food & Drink remain great value and wine can be purchased for as little as 1.6 Euros from the shops if you are on a budget!

This year we invited some friends along who are quite particular on where they stay. When my friend said "this is one of the best hotels we have stayed in in Europe" that really says it all!

I have to say the hotel was a very nice, modern hotel. Our suite was very clean, big balcony and a good size. The breakfast had a great selection and if you ordered food from the bar it was very nice and very reasonable. The hotel is located near a few restaurants which were nice and very reasonable. The location was very close to the supermarket which was very handy to stock up on supplies as we had lunch in the apartment a couple of days. The location in relation to the town was a bit of a walk, walking with kids was approximately 20 minutes but if adults were walking on their own I think you would be there in 10/15 minutes. A taxi ride cost approximately €3/€5 depending what part of Alvor you were going to. We got a taxi nearly every night as you were there within minutes. The beach was further away but it was a stunning beach! The double bed was very comfortable but the pull out bed was very uncomfortable for the children, you could feel the springs through the mattress which was a shame. The kitchen was fully equipped. The cleaners cleaned the apartment everyday so it was very clean. The pool was a nice size but if you want a lounger you would need to go down early and put your towels down on the beds, I normally don't agree with this but everyone else was doing it so we figured if you can't beat them join them. The staff were very nice too.

Room Tip: Ask for a pool side room as the other rooms look out onto the road.

My first stay in Alvor and it definately won't be the last. Hotel was lovely but as previous reviews have stated there are a couple of minor issues that need sorting. Rooms are very good, spacious and well stocked kitchen area. The sunbeds seemed to be a bug bear for a lot of people but we were really quite relaxed about it and if there were none (which was rare) we just sat on the grassed area which was lovely. This is not your typical high rise hotel with lots of entertainment, it is smaller and quieter and I felt has a lovely atmosphere. It was a welcome change to have peace and quiet during the day with no music and no-one trying to persuade you to do ACTIVITIES!! The reception staff are very friendly and helpful, the breakfast staff are not as friendly but are very busy so perhaps that is why. We met a lot of lovely people at the hotel which was also a welcome change. Alvor itself is super with a lovely old feel to it and lots of nice of nice restaurants and again really nice and family friendly. Only a 15 minute walk at the most. I would not recommend the hotel for anyone looking for lots of entertainment and to eat in during the evening as the hotel does not cater for this. The hotel could at least be improved in the evening with a friendly barman ot two as some nights it would have been nice to come back and have a night cap. Overall a brilliant stay.

Room Tip: A pool view is much better, it is actually like overlooking a great big garden with the addition of...
