“An excellent well located character property in a historic 'white' city”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2013 for a stay in August 2012

We've been to Ostuni previously and used one of the owner's larger properties before and been really impressed. This time, it was just the two of us and Casa Alfonso gave us all the space we needed. It was very clean, comfortable and accurately described. We wouldn't recommend it for two couples though (unless they are very friendly) but it’s excellent for a family and we are thinking of going back next summer with three of our grandchildren. Casa Alfonso will be ideal for this as its relatively cheap and there are several excellent free beaches only ten minutes or so drive away.

The real star for us on this visit though was Ostuni itself, in particular the old 'white' city with its Cathedral and spectacular winding streets which give us a real feeling of being in a living history. We also found that in August it really comes alive with various festival activities as people from all over Puglia and further afield flood in. The streets are alive with good humour and activity. It was a joy to eat outdoors in the old town and main piazza and soak up the atmosphere. We knew from experience that we could eat very well in Ostuni with numerous opportunities from simple and very cheap but excellent take-aways to more expensive, top ranked restaurants. This trip though we stuck to more mid-range UK pub price options and delighted in eating in (or outside) a new place every night. (So far, in three visits to Ostuni we've only had one bad eating experience when the restaurant caught fire and we had to evacuate mid meal without paying!).

If you’re looking for a touring base, Ostuni is excellent for tripping out to other places - we've previously visited places like Alberobello, Cisternino, Locorotondo and Gallipoli from Ostuni. On this visit, we took the opportunity to visit Lecce where we had a very interesting and educating day.

“Superb location. Excellent value for money”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2013 for a stay in August 2012

A beautiful walled town overlooking some fantastic beaches just a short drive from an airport with cheap flights from the UK. After spending our yearly two week break in Ostuni this year, I doubt we will ever book a package holiday again. We flew with Ryanair from Stansted to Brindisi which was both cheap and easy. Whilst looking for flights though we also came across nearly as good deals from Alitalia, BA and Easyjet to Bari (an hour away as opposed to just 20 minutes from Brindisi). We contemplated getting a taxi from the airport with the idea of exploring the region using public transport. Although the owners offered to arrange taxis for us, they persuaded us to rent a small car instead so that we could explore the towns and beaches nor serviced by trains or buses. This turned out to be excellent advice. The roads are much quieter than those in northern Italy and the local drivers are generally relaxed, considerate and not in a particular hurry to get anywhere! Parking wasn’t an issue (as it would have been if we had opted for accommodation in the centro storico) and we got to visit some amazing places. The Info Pack e-mailed to us after paying the initial deposit was really informative and many places had sat-nav co-ordinates. We took our own sat-nav which has European mapping, but I think you can rent one along with the hire car. The house is in a great spot. Only a few minutes walk to the piazza, but at the same time in a quiet residential road with some really friendly neighbours. Casa Alfonso could not be described as luxury accommodation, but it has everything you need. It is clean, in a great location and above all, really good value for money.

Thanks for your positive feedback. We are glad you thought our recommendation to hire a car was worthwhile. Whilst some guests actually enjoy the adventure of navigating their way around the Italian public transport system, unless you speak the language relatively well and don’t mind hanging around at bus stops and train stations for long periods, renting a small, cheap car can make things much easier! The idea of including the sat-nav co-ordinates in the Information Pack for both the house and the local attractions came through feedback left from guests who stayed last year. This has proved to be a really popular idea and so we now plan to add co-ordinates to even more places worth visiting this year. Kind regards, Bill & Mel

“Fantastic part of Italy”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2012 for a stay in October 2012

This small apartment is set in a quiet residential road a short 10 minute stroll from the centro storico of Ostuni. It is in a real road with real Italian people which in my opinion is great. The apartment itself is quite small inside but ok for a couple or possibly a couple with a single child. The staircase leading up to the bathroom is very narrow and an unusual dog leg shape. The whole apartment would not be good if you have mobility issues. Another short flight leads to the roof terrace with a table and 2 chairs plus 2 loungers but no cushions for either. A nice view of the sea though and some lovely sunsets over the roof tops. The apartment is very old which is part of the charm and it has been renovated but the website photos were taken some time ago and it could do with a bit of a deep clean. The mattress and bedding were clean but some new pillows are definitely in order as are new towels. They are tatty and grey. There were also some items in the fridge, bathroom and store cupboard which should have been disposed of before our arrival. As stated earlier a good deep clean would bring it back to a fair standard. There is no wi-fi connection in the apartment and this is a bit of a pain although we were aware of this prior to booking.
Ostuni and the whole region is beautiful with some great little towns close by. A car is a must to fully appreciate the area. Cisternino, Locorotondo and Lecce are a must and you have to see Alberobello even though it has lost a little bit of its charm by tourism. I would definitely return to Puglia, great place and very friendly people.

Thank you for your feedback and we are glad that you enjoyed your stay Casa Alfonso. Casa Alfonso is one of, if not the most popular properties being rented out in Ostuni (with the entire summer season usually being fully booked by the end of April) and over half of the bookings are made by returning guests who have fallen in love with the quirky charms of the house. Regarding the pillows and towels, I have spoken to Pauline (our house manager who lives close by) and she assures me that she would have swapped the towels sets and provided a new set of firmer pillows had a request been made. However, we like to take all feedback on board to constantly improve and have now purchased new luxury towel sets and firmer pillows in each of our Ostuni houses. Once again, thank you for taking the time to give us feedback and please let us know if you would like to return to Ostuni in the future as all previous guests are given a 10% discount. Kind regards, Bill & Mel

“A perfect base for a holiday in Puglia”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2012 for a stay in September 2012

Casa Alfonso is a great place to stay. It's close enough to the centre of Ostuni to walk to everything inside ten minutes (including a truly superb range of restaurants), but just far enough away to be quiet at night. There's a lovely roof terrace to stretch out in the sunshine, or to enjoy a romantic glass of wine in the evening. The bathroom and kitchen are small, but plenty big enough for two adults or a small family. No, there's no internet access, but there are plenty of places nearby that offer wi-fi access for free (including the brilliant Pink Lady bar/café around the corner). We had a great time - helped no doubt by the superb weather - and went to a number of different beaches, finally settling on the one at Villanova, about fifteen minutes away by car. (You do need a car to get to the sea. The smaller the car, the better, because of the narrow streets).

We loved Casa Alfonso. Pauline, the English ex-pat lady who handles the keys, is just brilliant. We'll definitely go back.

“a flavour of the real Italy”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2012 for a stay in June 2012

My husband and I have just spent a thoroughly enjoyable month on holiday in Ostuni. Casa Alfonso was ideally situated for local shops, bars restaurants etc. The house itself was well equipped, the linen was changed weekly and we were even provided with beach towels. We spent many an hour on the roof terrace which was ideal for sun bathing. We got on very well with all the neighbours, probably because my husband tried to speak to them in Italian and we were even invited into their homes to sample limoncello etc!
We found the owners information pack on places to visit, beaches, restaurants, bars etc extremely useful. We ate out every night visiting all the recommended restaurants and we didn't have a bad meal anywhere however our favourite restaurants were Al Solito Posto, Badia and L'Angolo Divine. We spent a lot of time at the Pink Lady bar watching England and Italy playing in the Euros- the staff there were incredibly friendly in fact my husband even managed a game of tennis with some of them. It was also very useful being able to access the Internet for free at the Pink Lady. Our other favourite bar was the Monna Lisa where we got personal tuition in Italian from the owner, Leonardo! This bar was slightly off the main piazza but well worth seeking out.
If you are looking for a taste of the real Italy then look no further!

“Perfect holiday in Ostuni”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2011 for a stay in June 2011

We (me, my wife and 16th years old son) stayed at Casa Alfonso two weeks (end of June and beginning of July 2011). The apartment is placed very close to city center but on quiet narrow street. A lot of local shops, supermarkets, pizzerias, cafes and restaurants in vicinity (5-7 min walks). There is practically everything what you need for short-term and long-term staying inside. Living room is quite spacious and has balcony, double bedroom in mezzanine also big enough but keep you head away from arched sailing :) Another single bedroom is small but cosy.
Kitchen is very small but well equipped. Roof terrace is a real advantage! We took sunbath at early morning and had glass of wine under full of stars sky!
No problem with hot water as well as air conditioning.
Just one notice - no Internet acces in the apartment.
Practically no problems with car parking except of some local feasts.
City at all also is beautiful, not big but with very active cultural life. Straight ways to majority of region attractions within 1-1,5 hours by car (maximum).
Wide range of sandy beaches just 10-15 min by car from the apartment door.
Owner provides you very detailed info about apartment itself, possible ways to it from different points (airports etc.), surroundings and many other helpful things.
House keeper also is very friendly and ready to fix every your problems or answer your questions.
