“Great place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 7, 2013

We visited last year taking in 3 days skiing on the local slopes. The hotel seemed to be good value within a short distance of Bergamo airport and the accommodation price was good.
On arrival we were greeted by the friendly manager who was happy to explain the local area to us. We checked in to the rooms which are clean and comfortable, and headed a few hundred yards up the road to the slopes where we got a few hours in before the light began to fade. Back at the hotel, we'd agreed to upgrade to HB so we sat down to an excellent evening meal. All of our party would have eaten anything and though the choice was limited in comparison to a restaurant, we prefer this because we knew the food was fresh, and it was. Excellent simple food, very tasty, good quality local ingredients.
The best indication of our satisfaction is the fact that we have booked to go again this season. My dad and my uncle keep on about how much they enjoyed everything about the trip and I think they'd have been very disappointed if they were not going back to the same hotel again. I must say I am looking forward to the food again. The hotel had a nice little bar also which we frequented both nights of our visit.
A little local advice, the skiing is very good value and the area is used a lot by Italians who drive up from the City at the weekend. If you can only ski for around 3 hours like me, you can pay for a few hours instead of a whole day. There are some good nursery slopes and a few decent tests in the area not far from the hotel, and a short drive to Monte Pora gives you a much more open area, with some more challenging and interesting runs.
We found that the food and beverages in the area were good value, in fact very cheap compared with places like France. You could get a decent coffee at between 1Eu-1.5Eu in most café bars, you could get a sandwich for around 4 Euros also. Beer was similar price if not a touch cheaper than back home but always very good. We also got a freshly made pizza each at a pizzeria one lunchtime, and that was around 8Eu. Because we were half board we did not try any of the restaurants in the town, and these restaurants did not seem to display prices on the outside (we did make an effort to look at every restaurant we walked past). I cannot therefore say how much an evening meal out might cost. There are some excellent food merchants in Castione, selling cured meats, cheeses, mushrooms, olives, wines, beers, etc.
So for nightlife, I found Castione very quiet in comparison with other places I have been in Switzerland, France and Austria. It suited us for this visit but if Apres Ski is your main reason for travelling, I might suggest you look for a busier town.
The fact that you can fly to Milan so cheaply, hire a car so cheaply, eat, drink and ski so cheaply in the area, its a brilliant little place to visit.
Really looking forward to going back.

We've stayed at the Des Alpes many times for ski trips and every time has been wonderful. It's a traditional family run hotel and the welcome from Sergio and Giuliana always makes you feel you're one of the family. The rooms have recently been refurbished and are clean and comfortable with great views. The food, freshly prepared by Sergio is always excellent and something to look forward to after a hard day on the piste. Overall the Des Alpes offers great hospitality at an amazing price.

If you're observant, you may notice that I've written similar reviews for 2 hotels in Presolana and see that I've rated them both as excellent, it's because they both are.

Stayed here for three nights at the end of July 13 . It is run by a very friendly family who make you very welcome . It is in an ideal location for skiing in the winter and walking cycling in the summer. The rooms are very clean and tidy and the food is excellent and plentiful. It is reasonably priced which makes it the best place to stay in the area. The rooms have excellent views on to the surrounding mountains. Overall an great place to stay .

After staying at the Hotel des Alpes in winter for skiing, I decided to visit in summertime, the hotel was just as friendly and welcoming as in winter time but so nice to sit on the terrace with a cool drink and fantastic views down into the valley, and the hotel looking splendid with its beautiful flowers bursting from every balcony. The Hotel is nicely situated for a quiet get away yet close enough for the local shops and amenities, Lake Iseo is about 40 minuets, the beautiful village of Clusone in the next valley and the mountains all around. Food was excellent and home cooked with fresh produce and a great choice for breakfast including bacon and egg. the rooms have been refitted with new modern furniture and double glassing but still retain there Italian charm. Sergio and his family are always on hand to help in any way they can, a real family hotel who treat you as a valued guest.

Good staff, good food, good rooms and great value for money. It is the best hotel at this price range that I have stayed in for some time. The views are superb as well. The welcome we got was that of a long lost friend and Sergio (the owner) went out of his way to ensure our stay was as good as it could be. He even gave us advice on routes and which were good and bad or full of traffic. When you go there have a look at the jigsaws which Sergio and his Son have done and made into wall plates!!

We decided to go to ski to a small ski area near Bergamo airport and Hotel des Alpes in Presolana is good value for the money that you pay. At airport the hotel bus waits for you so that is a very good service for a little money.

Don t expect the big ski resorts/hotels like in Austria (with sauna and so on) but when you want a small affordable Alp hotel runned by a nice family it is a perfect place.Sergio and his wife are very friendly people and also offer transport to the bigger ski resort Monte Pora at 6 km away., because Presolana is really for a beginner and for children and Monte Pora is more for the better skier.
About the hotel itself

We had a double bed with nice view and a big terrace .

They offer half pension for a small amount and good wine card at around 10/13 euro,
Also Sergio has made vouchers for the ski rent and pass, it makes a big difference in the price . He has also a cellar where you can leave your skis.
Very clean hotel.
The hotel is very traditional, good place to be.
The breakfast is Italian (just white bread and some jam and meat and cheese), so if you want eggs or so, just ask.

Fresh fruit was the only thing we missed, so I took my own with me.

But for the rest we had a good time and would recommend the hotel if you need a short break away where you can ski on almost empty ski slopes and at very reasonable prices !!!!

We also went one night to eat at Milano hotel for Valentine in the village (4 star wellness hotel with perfect wines and very luxury hotel bar)
and even then he took us by car to the hotel. Now that is really very customer friendly, and we had a transfer back from hotel Milano to our hotel. Incredible.

Room Tip: room 16 perfect, nice view.

Sergio and other staff couln't have been more helpful and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble.

Booking system online was simple and efficient.

Dinner was amazing, great food, and we didn't have to take the set menu option which was helpful as my father can only eat one course.

Breakfast was basic but adequate.

Rooms were cleaned with fresh towels and beds were made daily. Nice and warm as well all throughout the night.

Ski slopes 200m away.

Peaceful and quiet location in the mountains. Need a car to get to other restaurants as it is a steep walk back.

Superb value for money. Loved it.
