“Once Again - dont stay here”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2009

Paros was the third island that we visited and all our accomodation was booked through a greek travel agent. We were booked in to the Alkyon hotel originally but upon arrival were told that the hotel was full and we would be transferred to their sister hotel Pyrgaki as an upgrade! The hotel looked nice enough but the owners were very abrupt and rude and we were given a room underneath and at the back with no view. Whilst there we were both covered in insect bites. We had been travelling for several weeks when we arrived at the hotel and so enquired about a laundromat nearby, the hotel offered to do our small load of washing - just as well I asked how much it would cost as the owner rudely demanded 100 euro for such a lot of washing. Luckily one of the staff overheard our conversation and pointed us in the direction of a local laundromat where we got a full service wash for nine euro. The owners of this hotel were arrogant, rude and greedy, everything was excessively priced and of poor quality.

Can't rate experience with hotel; we booked a room for early October, got confirmation number and when we got there the Hotel was CLOSED down for the season. Cab driver tried to contact owner, no answer. Luckily he found us a nice place.
PS: cab fare was only 5 Euros from the port. Not per person.

The website said it overlooked the port - not by my definition of 'overlooking'. It's a good 40 min walk from the port, and when you're trekking with backpacks in midday heat, we didn't take kindly to the owner telling us it was 1.5km from the port - as the crow flies! In the same way, it's a 15 min walk to the beach; 800metres, yeah right! Plus, it's mainly uphill - something else not stated on the website! Our only respite was the lovely pool we were able to sit by to recover from our hike, and the fact that the room was absolutely lovely, with a proper shower cubicle, soft, fluffy towels, so we calmed down a bit.

  • Liked — Pool and fluffly towels
  • Disliked — Location - miles from the beach!!!

Please myself and my partner took on a two month journey through Europe and we had the unpleasant or should i say terrible experience of choosing to stay at Pyrgaki Hotel.

We enjoyed all of Spain, Italy, France and Greece (excluding Pyrgaki Hotel). The owner was rude and childish. We should have listened to all the negative reviews on Tripadvisor. However we chose to stay here. Bad choice.

We experienced personal attacks and the room we booked was not available to us. A very upsetting way to end our holiday. We tried to request what we booked however the owner was not interested in giving us the room. Instead he had the nerve to show us rooms that would not fetch half the quoted price on the island.

Be aware we are writing this to spare any others from the disappointing experience we experienced. Forget the reported bugs and insects that other reviews state. The owner is enough to put any one off from this hotel.

We left without even staying a night there as the professionalism that is expected from such a hotel was not to be seen.

After leaving we found other accommodation and experienced fantastic humanity and excellent service way above what was required.

Please take this warning and the many others that are on this site. Do not stay here!

Paros is a great place to stay however this hotel does not do the beauty of the island justice.

Terrible Hotel - Stay Somewhere Else
Rude Owner
3kms from port - claims 1km.
Rooms are dirty, small and not what we ordered.
We walked away in disgust as the owner hurled personal insults at us. We found a great hotel in town at half the rate.

  • Liked — Leaving
  • Disliked — The Owner and being lied to about services - above all, the abuse.

I had the unfortunate opportunity to stay at the Pyrgaki Hotel in Paros Greek Islands at the end of August/beginning Sept 2006.
Unfortunately it wasnt a very pleasant experience for myself or my wife. We were very disappointed with the location too far from the main centre of the town, too rushed at reception on arrival, no portage we had to carry our heavy bags up a long flight of stairs. the view from the room was nice, but the stench from the sewerage was so over powering we could not have our door opened on the balcony as the room was filling up with foul odour.
We also experienced lots of bugs and insects in our room including a very large ominious spider, plus a centipede in the bathroom/bath where you showered. The management were very unfriendly especially when we requested a new light globe be put in the bathroom as there was no light to see to have a shower or go to the toilet. The continential breakfast was very disappointing most days we were served stale bread and when we enquired why it was stale we were told it will only be toasted no need for fresh bread. Overall a very disappointing stay, we were most disappointed with the owner and his attitude to his guests - we thought it was only us but several other travelers had the same problems.

Just returned from our long awaited Greece and Greek Island holidays where we had a fabulous time everywhere except for Paros in the Cyclade Islands. We were well aware that we had booked our holiday at the end of the European holidays and wanted a quieter time with good accomodation food and service. We were definitely on the wrong island at the wrong time with moving from Mykonos to Paros. On arrival we were escorted by Meridan tours, upon arrival to the Pyrgaki Hotel we were confronted with rude service at the desk and an even ruder hotel manager. We were advised by our travel agents that this hotel offered meals, and transpoer into town which is what is advertised on the internet and on all the travel websites about this hotel, we required this as I have a mild physical disability. The manager got exremely upset and angry when asked to drive us into town abusing us and getting very agitated telling us this was not a service he offered he also said there were no meals! We were upset and horrified as we were now stuck in a hotel that was 3kms out of town with no transport, no food, and a very small room all not what what we had paid for or been advised by our agents. I would like to advise future travellers to Paros to be aware of what they are buying when getting accomodation via travel agents, we had researched every hotel before we booked this one which had an excellent review, but wow were we surprised. The other interesting thing is because summer holidays were really over this hotel was not prepared to give its guests anything it didnot have to because the staff levels were not there and everything advertised had now become a major effort for the team on staff inlcuding the owner. It was detailed to us that the owner had been giving guests during summer vacations a lift into town not at the advertised cost of NIL per trip but charging every guest 5 Euro each way Meridan agreed that the owner had been ripping guests off which is a shame.
Travellers be ware please, we did not enjoy our time in Paros and particularly not at this hotel which we woul not recommend to anyone - we have passed this information onto our travel agents today who to were embarassed and angry to see how poorly we were treated. Take care out there.
