“very nice hotel!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2013

On autobahn, our gps said we had to take off because of traffic problems near Bremen. We took of the main road, and drove around and desided to find a hotel for the night. We took a chance on this one, and did not regret it at all.
Clean big rooms, good prices, good breakfast, nice service, nice location ++
We actually hoped we will get back there on our way home, but we drove via Hannover instead. Recommended!

5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 29, 2013

Unexpectedly we had to travel through Germany as our ferry crossing from Denmark to the UK was cancelled. We used TripAdvisor to find a hotel close to the autobahn - and came across Gut Altona. What a chance find it was. The Hotel was perfect - comfortable, in peaceful surroundings; ideal for unwinding after a long drive - and excellent value. The restaurant looked scarily posh - but in fact both the set menu and a la carte were very reasonably priced. Breakfast was equally good. We came away wishing we could have spent longer - and feeling very guilty that we were unable to speak any German to the restaurant staff, though the check in staff spoke good English.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 26, 2013

My partner is severely disabled and restricted to a wheelchair at all times. We stayed one night only, (23rd March 2013), but we treated like long standing and valued customers. The staff were friendly, with evident great senses of humour without being overly familiar The owner/general manager himself took great pains to ensure my partner's special needs were accommodated and accompanied us to the room to satisfy himself that all was well, returning with me to guide me in placing the car near to the room so that my partner was caused as little effort as possible. The room was comfortable, warm and well appointed, and at €105.00 for the night (with a superb and comprehensive breakfast included!), extremely good value. We ate in the restaurant for the evening meal and every member of staff was unfailingly helpful and pleasant. My partner has obvious difficulty using her hands, and for the first time ever - including many stays in 5 star establishments - the waiter offered, without prompting, to have the kitchen serve her food pre-cut into manageable sized pieces. That is service of a level and showing empathetic awareness that is priceless in its rarity. The food was of an exceptional standard, (I will never view green cabbage in the same light again!) and the waiters attention to detail and helpful advice regarding wine selection was most welcome. The buildings have grown piecemeal from an original farm, some attractive features of which have been retained and stylishly incorporated into the modern whole, and the owner will delight in giving you an interesting history, should you require it.

Certainly this comfortable hotel is the best place to stay around Wildeshausen. Although it is already in the neigbouring Doetlingen community, it is just a short stroll through the forest and along the river to Wildeshausen's historic centre.

The hotel has a large restaurant and some banquet rooms.

The hotel rooms are clean and comfortable and located in several buildings on the hotel premises.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 18, 2012

We arrived at Gut Altona after a longish journey, and were delighted to find a large room with a massive, well-appointed bathroom awaiting us in the 1970s block behind the original inn. Gut Altona has a collection of buildings of various ages in which their guests are housed, all well presented and attractive, and away from the road. There is a little road noise from the nearby motorway, but its proximity to the motorway was, of course, the reason for stopping there, so one cannot complain at that. Dinner was excellent, as was breakfast; the staff were friendly and welcoming - we would heartily recommend.

What a lovely hotel! Beautiful setting on edge of forest, the whole place has a nice 'feel' about it. Stayed in one of the outbuildings, in a large airy room.
Dinner eaten in garden - absolutely delicious, can recommend the Argentine steak and the boiled beef. The waiting staff are great and have a sense of humour. Only drawback was the Chilean house wine. Breakfast very good.
Website stated hot drink making facilities in the room which were not provided.Just a few bottles of water/juice on a table. No fridge or aircon in room.
It was a very hot day but I did not miss the lack of aircon as much as I thought I would because the building is shaded with trees all around and you can leave the balcony door open at night, with complete privacy, for air flow.
Overnight stop only, but would have liked to stay all week.

Conveniently located within minutes from the Autobahn and nicely run family hotel. Beautiful rooms and stately surroundings. Very helpful front desk, - look forward to come back.
The hotel features a nice restaurant under glass ceilings overlooking the patio and gardens.
