“Good but not quite what I expected”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 13, 2009

I probably had too high expectations after reading the reviews and seeing the website. Somehow I had envisioned this more as a small hotel and it is very much of a B&B. The good things: the owner/Dad is very nice and helpful, the rooms interesting, the countryside and things to do great, and a nice pool set up (if you don't want to eat out easy to make your meal there which is lovely). The not so great - very strict times (small window for breakfast and feels very not OK to bother them after breakfast and 5), quite remote (don't arrive in the dark - hard to find - behind a house under construction), no common space inside, and room was clean but things like spider webs on the bathroom lites. no tv or internet acccess. Price was good though - I guess this was a little more "B&B" like than we had expected from the website.

Le Clos Saint Saourde is not a small hôtel but a bed & breakfast.

Our guets can have TV in their rooms but on demand, because a lot of them don't want to have TV, very happy to be in a natural quiet space . For internet access, it's an ADSL cable on demand to.

We are at home almost all day, our guests must feel free to come in the common place (living/dinning room) and ask questions.

Breakfast is between 9 and 10 am, but it's almost never finished before 11:00-11:30 am and sometimes 12:00. We, the owner, take a lot of our time to speak about restaurants in the surroundings and nice place to go during the day, and it's a great pleasure.

We have a Cleaning lady that comes in the room everyday, and everyday she fights against spiders in the rooms, but we live in the countryside so their is always one spider left to make a web after the comming of the cleaning lady.

We have a lot of pleasure with receiving all our guests and thank them for coming at Le Clos Saint Saourde.

What a wonderful week we had last May in Beaumes de Venice!

We consider ourselves brilliant for finding this old country farmhouse. Le Clos Saint Saourde is just beautiful. It was really great getting the chance to stay at this idyllic and romantic place right in the middle of that lovely region. An oasis of tranquillity.

We arrived with some doubt, as first timers in the Provence, but the cordial receipt from the minute we walked in convinced us immediately completely. We were taken care of Géraldine and Jerome in a fantastic way all the time. We enjoyed everything so much and were thankful for their warm hospitality and helpfulness.

Our room ZELLIGE was really something else, like a work of art - exceptionally clean and comfortable. Each morning we enjoyed our breakfast on the stylish pool deck surrounded by the vineyards getting all information for the day by Jerome. He is like a professional tourist guide, concerning the region, the restaurants, the cities and markets in this area.

We enjoyed everything so much. Le Clos Saint Saourde can be highly recommended, an unique place to stay and a starting point for all interesting points in Provence.

This is a very special place! From the time we arrived ,everything felt good. On arrival Géraldine made us feel at home in a natural way. Both rooms were exiting, we had The Zillinge, our friends The Beaulieu. We enjoyed the original furniture and the tadelak bathroom very much.Everything is just like the photographs on their site and even more beautiful.
The beds are perfect. From our rooms, on the ground floor we could see the sun go down in warm colours. Afterwards we recieved advise from the family about a restaurant in the neighbourhood and we had a superb dinner at 'Chez George' in Carpentras.
Breakfast was very very good with all sorts of bread, the most delicious croissants ever etc. etc. All presented with so much taste. Jérôme, Géraldine's husband was not only nice and friendly but - very important- he is also interested in his guests. For us - being Dutch/ true cheeselovers - he brought us fantastic goatcheese! This B & B in Beaumes de Venise is situated in a beautiful part of France! Yes, it is a rather expensive one, but worth every penny of it. Don't hesitate: go, and you will not be disappointed. We will be back!!

Le Clos Saint Saourde was a highlight of our honeymoon in August 2007. It was the quintessential French experience set in an old stonehouse in the beautiful Provence. It is surrounded by vineyards and the prettiest scenery. While we were there we visited Orange, Avignon, we hiked in the Dentelles and toured the neighbouring countryside, visiting picturesque local towns and villages. The hosts Geraldine and Jermone have done an amazing job in restoring this place, it's just perfect. We stayed in the Suite Roche d'Espeil which was very romantic with views of the vineyards, particularly lovely in the evening sunlight. The fireplace, the clawfoot bath and rain shower were also a big hit! The owners are truly excellent hosts, they recommended and booked restaurants for us every evening. One evening they had dinner prepared by the pool and dined with all of the guests staying there. It was most enjoyable and almost felt like a private a dinner party with friends. The food at dinner was delicious, as were the breakfasts each morning. The family are very nice and charming, complete with gorgeous big shaggy dog called "Noisette" and a cat with the cutest little kittens. This place is idyllic!

We stayed here for our visit to the wine region - after extensive research, I was worried it would be an anti climax - but it was great. The room we had (Suite Castillion) was stunning, and we looked out of our window straight onto vineyards. Jerome, one of the owners, was very friendly and helpful, he arranged restaurant bookings for my boyfriends birthday and recommending places to visit - as well as helping me with the navigating! Was lovely to come back after a days exploring to relax around the pool.

My husband and I stayed here last October for our one year anniversary. We started out with 3 days in Nice, and one in Aix to see the Rugby World Cup, but once we arrived at Le Clos we realized we should have stayed here the entire time. It was nothing short of perfect. In fact, I hesitate giving it the raved review it deserves for fear that more people might go, but husband and wife team Jerome and Geraldine deserve nothing but the highest praises. They have transformed this old country farmhouse to a provincial oasis. They both speak perfect English, and made us feel very at home... in their home with their adorable family.

Each night, even our first night when we arrived after 9pm, they made reservations at the best surrounding restaurants. They were familiar with some of the owners, and the goodwill they had created with the owners was passed on to us in the form of complimentary drinks and great service. The food, of course, was out of this world, and I have extremely high standards... my husband will attest to that! Beaumes de Venise, where les clos is located, was a very small town, but you can find the dessert wine produced in the surrounding vinyards in most specialty wine shops.

The room (Beailieu) was originally and stylishly decorated, very clean, comfortable, and extremely romantic. It was a bit too cold to go in the pool, but it didn't matter with the surrounding vinyards to distract you, and we were still able to eat breakfast out on the calming pool deck. Jerome took the time to sit down with us around breakfast time to recommend sightseeing trips for the day around Provence and it's charming towns. There is always a market in one of the small towns and Jerome knew which was each day. We'd start off the day there to buy wine and snacks and set off for sightseeing. One day Jerome even provided us with cups, plates, and flatware so that we could have a picnic for lunch. We bought salami and cheese in Bedoin and wine in Gordes and ended up eating on a grassy area overlooking the Luberon - perfect!

Cannot wait to go back to the south of France and will definitely stay a Le Clos again!

We spent the most wonderful 5 days here in August. From the superb and stylish large rooms and amazing bathrooms to the simple but refined food, fabulous pool and setting, and wonderful hosts - everything was just perfect. Wonderfully situated for either a relaxing or active stay. The wine farms and restaurants that Jerome recommended and booked for us were just wonderful too. Geraldine and Jerome deserve every success and we will certainly be back for more of this understated luxury!! Jenny & Steve, London
