“A charming property in a beautiful area”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 4, 2009

We travelled as a family and so used two rooms at La Lubinerie. The property is set in a small village about 15mins from Tours. Elizabeth is very friendly and speaks excellent English. She gave us good advice on where to visit and had lots of information to support it. She also gave good directions for places to eat in Tours.
The property is very nice with a large garden. One of the rooms is set away from the main house so gives good access if you have mobility problems. Parking is inside the main gates although I wouldn't have expected any problems in the area if left outside.
The breakfast was good with lots of home made jams and pate etc..
Overall a very enjoyable stay, very good value for money.

Our stay at La Lubinerie was quite a disappointment. Let me tell you the positives and negatives. First of all, our visit was during an extremely hot period of time. We had the upstairs suite, which really is lovely. The two bedrooms with a nice-sized bathroom worked well for my husband, teenaged child, and myself. However, at night trying to sleep was miserable. With no air, we had to leave the windows open. The noise from the street behind the house was horrible. All through the night, cars and loud motorcycles were zipping by.

After the first sleepless night, we asked Elizabeth if she had a fan we could use. She said she did not. We even went out trying to find a fan, giving up some of our sightseeing time, but no luck since it was on a Sunday. Needless to say, the second night was just as bad. And all this after I had asked her if the bed and breakfast was located in a quiet location, and she had indicated that it was.

The house itself is a cute place; the interior well-kept with beautiful antiques. Breakfast was excellent. Elizabeth's husband was a really likeable fellow. We found the location of the bed and breakfast itself not well-located for visiting the chateaux in the area. It was however, less expensive than lodging in more centralized areas. I suppose it's all right if you need to stay in that particular town (Esvres-sur-Indre), and if it's during the cold weather when you can keep the windows closed. Like I said, the 2-bedroom suite itself was very nice and something kind of hard to come by in that area for that price. And if you need someone who speaks English, Elizabeth's English was excellent. Just overall not our cup of tea.

We stayed at this chambre d'hotes in Esvres for four nights while visiting friends. Mme. Aubert takes great care of her home and the visitor's rooms. The room on the first floor is attached to the garage, and aside from the typical French smell of cigarettes (which wasn't pervasive), was a good place to sleep. The upstairs suite worked out very well for our family of four. (We, unfortunately, clogged the toilet, but M. Aubert fixed it without mention to us.) The bathroom is between a room of two single beds and another room with a queen.

There is a beautiful new breakfast room, full of sunlight, where Madame served a wonderful French breakfast of coffee, tea or hot chocolate as well as cereal, croissants and fresh homemade bread.

Some negatives are that, as elsewhere in France, A/C is rare and not in the bedrooms (although recently installed in the new breakfast room), thus you have to leave the windows open at night (and they don't have screens) so it can be a bit loud as you're on the main street. (Although the noise is not true in the first floor room attached to the garage.)

Madame Aubert tells you that she speaks poor English, but don't believe her, it's quite good.

The B&B is close to everything, and they'll let you park your car in their enclosed driveway.

The cat and dog in the backyard are wonderful, homey additions. My nine-year old son loved them.

Make sure to bring cash, she does not accept credit cards.
