We booked an apartment in the Danae Villas as a package through Olympic Holidays; it's part of the 'Cyprus Villages' accommodation in Tochni and the neighbouring villages. We chose this as we wanted a base far removed from the typical 'English-pub'
beach resorts and were not disappointed. The accommodation itself consists of 8 apartments round a small swimming pool in a lovely traditionally renovated brick building walled in from the street. We had a shady verandah, very well equipped kitchen/living room, separate bedroom and large bathroom it was simply but nicely furnished. We received a very warm welcome from the staff at the 'Tochni Tavern', just next door, where the office is located. They obviously make a lot of effort to make sure that guests have an authentic Cypriot experience and a great holiday. A good buffet breakfast was served as part of the deal (from 7.30 to 10.30 which seemed very generous!) We also dined several times in the taverna in the evening, the food seemed authentic and homemade, plentiful and tasty. Other days we had big lunches in shady taverna's whilst out and about and had a snack washed down with local wine on our verandah in the evenings. (the little supermarket in the village was open through the evening, or the larger one just off junction 15 of the motorway towards Zygi had a bigger choice of fresh food) Tochni had a real 'village' feel to it, no traffic noise apart from some daytime road works and renovations still going on to houses down the bottom of the village. The only thing to do after your evening meal was view the stars and listen to the crickets - right up our street - but not to everyone's taste!
Location-wise Tochni is ideally situated if you want to see everything that the island of Cyprus has to offer, being not much more than 90 mins drive from anywhere, it's just off the motorway 30 mins ish from both Limassol and Larnaka. We took advantage of our free car hire and travelled the length and breadth of the southern Republic. Maybe we spent too much time in the car but we wanted to see everything!
In my opinion the only downside was that the nearest beach (Governors beach - it was the proximity of the power station / factory which put me off!) was not all that great compared to some of the other lovely places we found on our travels; but then if we were looking for a purely beach holiday, we would have stayed elsewhere anyway.
We had a fab holiday and couldn't recommend this accomodation more highly; IF it's the sort of holiday you are looking for!
