“Functional, clean, no frills”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 20, 2012

A different location on the side of the football stadium but quiet non the less (can't vouch for staying on the day of a game though!) It' s a clean functional hotel that serves a purpose. A concrete block of a design, no frills room but the bed was comfortable if you like firm support. Could be stuffy in summer as ventilation is minimal.
The reception and staff do a job, there's no extras there too! Parking is underneath the hotel and the bar / restaurant is at the other end of the block, again adequate but a bit a of trek first thing in the morning. The centre of town is a 15 / 20 minute walk in with plenty of choice to eat. The bakery opposite the hotel does a good range of patisserie etc.
The hotel serves a purpose and no more.

Room Tip: Football stadium one side - main road the other if no match on the stadium side is quieter, with lit...

The hotel itself it is ok for a 3 stars ; the only minus I gave is related to the fact that all the windows are fixedd or blocked and as a consequence you don't have access to fresh air ....Instead good breakfast and quit , my room was facing the footbal courtyard so , from this point of view be carrefull to close the curtain when you're in the room.

I stayed one night during a business trip. The place is easy to find and has a restaurant and a bar near so if you don't have particular ambition it's relaxing to leave the car in the - 1 floor parking. Rooms are quite big with a good bathroom (at least the mine) A convenient quantity of towels and something to drink (sparkling water and what you need for a thea, coffee or a chocolate). A table with some socket near will allow to do some office-work confortably

As soon as I said hello and proceed with my check in, the young lady at the front desk gave me a lecture on the hotel check in policy. Bad start. They have free internet but I was not offered nothing but rude looks as if I was a pain or a bother. The only thing she did offer me was the option of breakfast, at a cost of about 30 euro of course, and she was still rude about this as well. Checkout was even worse with little to no communication. Most hotel would have asked did you enjoyed your stay? But the young lady had no interest at all in any customer service! The beds were really comfortable they had a great TV selections to choose from. The breakfast buffet was actually good and had a variety of things to choose from. I had recommended this hotel to many people as we were in the area for a wedding for the week but being that the front desk treated me so ill willed that I was happy that my friends made other arrangement and was able to avoid this experience. This was an ok hotel and if the front desk would have made an effort to make guests feel welcomed then maybe I could have given this hotel a better review.

Visited the hotel on a business trip to a nearby town. The hotel is situated in a residential area and near a football stadium. It seemed to be a converted office building. Somewhat sterile impression, but clean and fresh, a bit dark corridors. The reception is one floor up and the stairs are steep, but there is an elevator. Unless football the area is boring, however the restaurant in the same building is actually very good. Italian. The breakfast was also ok. For this class and place a good hotel. If you would like to iron your garments the iron is provided, however there is no ironing table or board available. My colleague had her room towards the stadium and according to her if it were a game the spectators could peek into her room. If you arrive with a train it is about 10 minutes walk.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2012

It's my second stay at the Stayen in St Truiden, and sorry of omitting comments on my first stay. This hotel is chosen by one of customers located in nearby Tienen, where it's difficult to get a beer after 9 pm, hence they put us up in St Truiden. Very commendable of them!

The hotel is a little out of town, but right next door to the football stadium so if you are a fan, perfect choice, some rooms have prime view over the stadium! if you are not, just check the fixtures calendar and ensure your stay does not coincide!

The hotel can look really weird on first approach, as you are faced with a massive staircase which you either need to take up to the first floor or take the lift instead, open a few fire doors, to get to the tiny reception upstairs. It's a little disconcerting, but once you find it, you will be well surprised. The staff on reception are excellent, and very efficient and courteous. Forgotten something? They'll get it for you.

The rooms are ENORMOUS. And it does at first seem that the furniture in it was made for Lilliputians, but it is in fact full size and generously proportioned. It is just drowned in the size of the room. You then visit the bathroom and ditto, what a massive space... you then realise: All the rooms are fitted out to receive disabled guests and everything has been thought out to take care of their needs: oversized passageways, rooms and access areas. Another commendable thought. The rooms are confortable, beds very comfy, and quiet (not sure on match nights...).

The hotel provides breakfast just off site, but it is off site, down the road for 100 m at the Grand Cafe. This is very good, and very varied. The Grand Cafe also serves day and evening meals which are of good quality and in good quantity. The cost is reasonable. There is also music and dancing on some nights if you feel like it.

The hotel is gearing up well for business venues, with a good array of meeting rooms and it may interest business types looking for a location a mere 45 minutes out of central Brussels, at a fraction of the cost. St Truiden is easily accessible from Brussels by car, and train.

It's a quirky place, but it's good, and well ahead in its thinking of what customers really want.

Room Tip: On non match nights, rooms backing onto the stadium are quietest.
