“Okee voor een nachtje”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 11, 2014

Our TomTom warned us: we were heading for an unpaved road! When we arrived at outr destination we indeed were guided on an unpaved road where some desolate caravans were parked. Fortunately it was TomTom's error; the entrance of Hotel Fauwater was some 50 meters further along the road.
The staff at the reception desk was friendly and efficient; the room we were orrered very small and basic. The beds were OK and so was the shower and since it was only a place to sleep we didn't really mind.
Breakfast was OK: rolls, coffee or tea, orange juce, cheese, ham and even a plastic bag containing slices of bread; possibly to prepare a hikers lunch.

Anyway: good value but not advisable for a long-term stay.

My husband and I happened upon this hotel whilst travelling through Belgium and it was the ideal overnight stay venue. We liked the retro décor (have had too many cold-coloured corporate rooms in British hotels) and the hotelier was charm itself. Quirky touches like a mannequin in the hall meant that I greeted more people than there were!
The dinner was excellent, the cook was the barman and washer-up as well and one of us had steak with sauce, vegetables and fried potatoes that were perfect. The other had pork fillet with a different sauce, homemade croquette potatoes and vegetables - again faultless.
Great atmosphere and we would have liked longer to explore the campus.
Breakfast was good enough, though not on a par with the night before.
We left early in the morning, well pleased with this hotel and would recommend it.

What can I say? This hotel stands along the road and is suitable for overnight stay. But it's in poor condition. Actually it reminded me of a former soviet pension as they were in the 90s when nobody needed it and it gradually felt into disrepair. There is nothing interesting in the nearest surroundings. The rooms are mediocre and so is the furniture. Can't say more about hotel services cause we stayed the night and moved on, but definitly didn't want to stay here longer.

Nasty. This is a tired hotel that requires renovation.

The hotel seems to double up as some kind of sport/social club for the local 'undesirable' population. Quite simply the people in and around the pool looked like the 'wrong sort', depends on which side of the tracks you fall on, but when you can get dinner, bed and breakfast at a Hilton in the UK for the same price then you wonder what you are paying for in the back end of Belgium.

The ‘pool’ is not child friendly and was extremely cold (clearly not heated). The surrounding areas are not conducive to relaxation, there being no sunbeds. The plastic chairs available were filthy.

Tennis courts are available to use. These were clay courts and were good quality. The hotel lets you play for free and will even provide rackets and balls, so that was good.

We booked a family room for 6, even though there were 5 of us. Consisted of two adjoining rooms, one double in one room and two bunks in the other room.

Admittedly this was a hot day (40C). But, I understand what previous reviews have been getting at when they mention the need for aircon. We ended up borrowing a fan from reception even though a thunderstorm had taken the edge out of the air temperature.

The facilities in the room were extremely basic. Not tea/coffee making facility. The shower was in the double room, the ‘bunk bed’ room only had a loo. The shower room was passably clean, but not really clean.

Breakfast was rubbish. A few rolls, butter and a plate of sliced cheese and meats. Coffee and orange juice. Not really a meal to set you up for the day, even though I accept we were in Belgium I contend that they eat something more varied and substantial.

For Euros 95 I expect somewhat better. We would not stay there again.
