excellent lakeside location....v helpful and charming hosts and a v cozy apartment make this an excellent choice...only drawback was that our apartment was on the 3rd floor with no lift and had to drag the bags all the way up which was a task....but apartment was nice and spacious for 2 couples and a teenaged kid....no washing machine but pay per load facilities were available...just a short and scenic drive to lake hallstatt .... jane was v helpful with the travel advice around the region and it helped us to plan and see the right things

Mark and Jane are the best hosts that you can have. Very prompt to respond to queries and waited beyond their usual opening hours for my late arrival as a result of the unavailability of trains. They are very helpful with travel advice around the region and serve a terrific breakfast. There are terrific views from all the rooms and is within comfortable walking distance from the train station and bus stop. Obertraun is a quiet and laid back alternative to the Hallstatt.

We were two couples traveling and had a two bedroom apartment with a lake view. The beds were very comfortable and both rooms had an en suite bathroom and a balcony. The kitchen was well appointed and we had views of the mountains surrounding us. The property is family run by Jane and Michael who are English. Downstairs there are bar and breakfast areas. The was an excellent selection for breakfast which set us up for a day of exploring. Parking is available and there are bicycles to hire. We were given recommendations for two restaurants by Jane and they were both excellent. Halstatt is only 5 minutes drive away. This property is excellent value. We would definitely stay again.

Room Tip: All rooms have a mountain view but ask for a view of the lake as well.

Great lakeside location, well maintained rooms, and such charming hosts prompt us to return . This is one of the few places where the cheap price is hard to understand. Its just great value and that makes such a rare and pleasant change! If you are after a nice family style holiday in warm comfortable surroundings , next to the lake but in easy reach of the mountains, you need look no further!

We booked a room for three and it is spacious .The owner is very polite and i am really satisfied with the services. Very near to railway station, price is fair. Require a little bit of walk to jetty and about 30 minutes to ice caves ( a cab that fits 8 costs 10 euros , not expensive but car pooling is still a good idea =) ) . Worth it !

3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2012

We arrived at around 9:30pm and the front desk was closed. After a call the owner came over immediately. The apartment is large, with small kitchen and all utensils. Bedroom and bed are cozy. The shower is small and the curtain couldn't cover it all, so there was unpleasant water spill. Also the water temperature was unstable, jumping between too hot and too cold. More trouble is the room door: it uses old-fashioned key and it's hard to lock and unlock.

Breakfast for 8 Euro was okay with eggs, pastry and coffee, though we expected more hot items. It's within 15 minutes driving distance from Hallstatt, and the drive itself was scenic.

Room Tip: Arrive early, otherwise you will have to call the owner and wait in the lobby.

Nice and clean apartment with all you need for a short break.
Also a nice environment with lots of opportunities, (hiking, biking, swimming, ....)
The owners gives us good tips for the restaurants in the environment.
