“Marvellous view”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2013

I have booked a superior junior suite and deluxe room for my kids both had lovely views of the lake, the staff were ok but not well coming. Both rooms have got neither AC or Fridge.
Breakfast seating was arranged by the hotel in the back with no view without telling us.

Tip: 1-booking your table for your meals in advance and choose lake view.

We stayed at this hotel a whole week, 3 nights in a junior suite at 175 Euro a night and 4 nights in a Superior junior suite at 195 Euro a night, so you think....for these rates it should be real good isn`t it? Well.....it wasn`t ! The junior suite was a very spacious clean room with a balcony overlooking the Achensee, the Superior junior suite has the size of an appartment and is very luxery with a big king size bed a salon + large balcony facing the Achensee! So far so good but let me please explane to you why i certainly am NOT satisfied about this hotel by telling you the pro`s and contra`s ok?
PRO:
- Beautiful appointed rooms, clean, spacious with a nice frontal view at the Achensee,
- Very tasty breakfast and dinnerbuffets with lots of choices to eat.
- Very good service at breakfast and dinner ( by Andrea in our case!)
- "BVN" tv channel available in the room(excellent for Belgian and Dutch custemors)
CONTRA:
- Despite this hotel suppose to be a first class 4 stars hotel there is NO AIRCO and/or FRIDGE available in the rooms... not even in a superior junior suite at 195,-Euro a night, this is unexceptable in this category! I am a diabetic patient and my insuline to inject myself should be placed cool in any circumstance but this was not possible, the hotel proposed me to put the insuline at the fridge of the hotelkitchen!!!!But this isn`t convinient!
- Many things are missing in the rooms like a laundry bag, information about the inroom safe,
- They still use old fashion big tv`s, peeping beds(no boxspring!)
- DOGS are alloud in the restaurants!!!! I saw it many times on different evenings at dinner, this i never saw during all my travels worldwide.... this is unexceptable isn`t it?
- You can also only have dinner starting 6,30pm NOT one minut earlyer!

So here i let you decide by yourself if this hotel deserve 4 stars yes or no, in my honest opinion i say NO WAY,,,,for the money i payed i really would expect a lot more!

Room Tip: Book somewhere else!

While I was searching for a lakeside hotel in Achensee , I looked at Strandhotels photos and immediately something positive hit me.....a sense of relaxation and euphoria...!! I was so right....We chose a junior suite with a balcony facing the lake...it was great except of the t.v which was not a flat , modern one but one of those square huge old boxes !!! Anyway , the hotel has a beautiful bar -restaurant across the street just on the lake promenade ..we had a lovely time sitting there , enjoying our drinks . There is also a platform in the lake which is used for swimming and sunbathing and its a nice experience...Breakfast was excellent and we also had dinner buffet .....which was delicious...!! It is certain that this is the best place to stay if you ever decide to visit Pertisau !!!

We found the hotel very easily and there was plenty of free parking all round the hotel. We got a lovely welcome at reception and were then shown to our room which was a junior suite on the second floor with a stunning view of the lake. There was a separate bathroom and toilet with bidet and each had sliding doors and underfloor heating. The bathroom had a shower and 2 wash hand basins and bathrobes with toiletries and hairdryer. The room was huge with a large bed, spacious seating area with sofa, table and chairs, dressing table and wardrobe. The balcony had patio furniture, window boxes and looked directly onto the lake which was in front of the hotel with a quiet road between them. Across the road was a place with sun loungers and a bar/restaurant. There was no fridge, kettle or air con and as it was very hot a fan would have been nice. We were only staying 2 nights and had booked dinner and breakfast. The dinner was a 5 course set menu with unlimited salad buffet and was excellent. The breakfast was amazing also and set you up for the day. We had wine with dinner and my husband mistakenly poured his into his water glass which the waiter duly took away. We thought he would bring it back in a wine glass but he never did much to my amusement and my husband's disgust. I also asked for a menu in English and was brought one in French. When I pointed it out to the waiter he was very apologetic and asked "Oh is that English". But then again we were in their country and our German was limited. We will definitely return to this hotel if we are in the area again.

Positive:
- Beautiful location just next to lake
- Spacious suite (Achensee junior suite) facing towards the lake
- Delicious dinner and excellent service by the restaurant staff
- Lovely deck area on the lake with sun loungers for the hotel guests
- Resently renovated bar and lounge area
- Nice spa with two pools (no dressing room available, need to change the swimwear in your room)
- Free parking available
- Atmosphere of 4 star hotel

Negative:
- Our suite was on the first floor and the view wasn't that nice, ask a room facing the lake but on higher floor
- Hot during the night, the toilet and bathroom (separate) were very hot, probably floor heating and heated up the whole room
- Need to carry luggage by ourselves

Room Tip: Rooms facing the lake and on higher floor than 2nd have the best views

We have visited many hotels in Austria for the past 25 years. These trips took place in winter as well as in summer. Yet, the last 8 years we always went back to this hotel because it is so good.
It started off as a hotel with one of the best values for money. Over the recent years they have increased their prices several times and I can no longer state they are "best" in value for money. However, since they also renovated most (if not all) of their rooms and since they have also improved in food quality and presentation I still think they can be counted as one of the better hotels in Tirol and one of the best in the region. That is why we no longer look for alternatives and we always returned to the same hotel for the past 8 years.
The rooms are large and comfortable. These on the lakeside are somewhat more expensive than those on the mountain/village side. In summer I would recommend to take a room at the lakeside if you prefer to see some people walking by and activity on or near the lake. However, in winter we now always take a room on the mountain/village side. The front of the hotel (lakeside) is oriented north-east and balcony is in the shade as of approx 11 hrs. The back of the hotel (village side) has sun for a longer part of the day.
Personnel is young and very kind, but language is predominantly German. They do survive in other languages, but with some difficulty.
Inside pool is very nice as well as the welness area.
During a 7-day period they give at least 2 theme dinners (we had once a farmers-buffet and once mediteranean), once a 5-course gala dinner and sometimes also a starters or desert buffet.
Only minor is that their drinks are somewhat expensive, but this is the case in most of Austria. If you take their house wines, these are of decent price and good quality.
My list with pro's can be a lot longer, but my best comment is "we returned 8 times and we will continue to go back".

Room Tip: See my comments on lakeside and mountain/village side. Do not be afraid of rooms near the elevators...

the hotel located in a nice and quite area in front of the lake only a small street in front of the hotel. Some of the rooms have a lake view such as my room. The room facing the lake have a balcony for a great view of the lake. The room is big and have a speared sitting area.
The hotel staff were so nice, kind and helpful. The breakfast was great with many options to choose.
The only drawback is that there isn't tea or coffee maker in the room.
