Book the Kroneck in Jan2012 mainly because we wanted a difference Kitzbuhel area ski experience from last year. The rate for us was great $735 p/p dbl included 7 night HB with six-say all area skipass. That's food, room and skiing for $105 p/day - real bargain and for so much skiing! Kirchberg is smallish but a very nice Tyrolean ski town. It has sidewalk/patio bars, disco's, "lady's club" and a casino - which we did not visit. You can't walk to the closest gondola but the skibus stop was 150ft from the hotel skiraum. You have the choice of 3 gondolas in Kirchberg, the closet is the Marielbahn, but was the most crowded. 100ft up the road was another skibus stop to Pengelstein gondola and was always less crowded, but a bit longer ride, like 7 minutes longer. For us, this lift was the best because of the available lifts to the top, and to the crossover 3S tram to the area where for the best snow/slope condition. Also where the amazing panorama views of some the highest Alps; you see any entire range including the Grossglocker summit, the highest Austrian peak. There is also the Panorama-Alm restaurant with and outside deck and bar to admire it all. IT is truly an amazing place to stop for lunch. Ok this is a hotel review, so back to the Kroneck. It was good but the mattress border horrible, but the spa and pool where good and the parent did a good job of controlling das kinder. The spa also has a adults only no clothes area of saunas, steam room and cool showers. And of course, we joined in au natural (and I’m fat). The bar was marginal, but only because there was few partiers, and after dinner they allowing smoking, which for us is a no-go. So we do are après-ski beverage-ing before the included dinner. Besides, we skied no less than 4 hours a day. That’s because there is a TON of skiing off their many no crowd lifts. I think the longest we waited for a lift was 10 minutes, and that was only once, the rest of the time we got back on the chairs in 30 seconds – I am serious! Sorry, I love skiing – back at the hotel the HB food was great and standard Austrian fare. Breakfast was cold cuts, cheeses, tomatoes, cux, and bread, and buns of all kinds, made to order fried eggs, scrambled or soft boiled, fruit juices, and GREAT coffee! Dinner was four courses plus a salad bar, and was great. You have a choice of 3 entrees, usually meat, seafood or one veggie. I had stuffed calamari one night and it was delicious. Starters were like salmon mousse, or feta, tomatoes, cukes and pesto, or something similar. Next came self-service soup, the best was potato leek that was deliciously buttery. This is a 4-star property, and really deserves that ranking. The only bad thing I can say our first waiter bordered on horrible. It appeared he did not care much for Yankees, so we were often overlooked with service. We asked for and received a new server who was delightful. I made all my arrangements directly with the hotel by email, and arranged airport transfers with the Kitzbuhel Reiseboro. This was our second Kitzbuhel sojourn, and we will be back, someday.
Our room overlooked the pool and had great morning views of snowy peaks in the distance, and a chair...
