“That's not 5 stars”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2012 via mobile

The Stanglwirt is a famous VIP Hotel but its reputation lives from its past and former VIP visits. We had a suite with two bedrooms and paid more than 1000€ per day. The gym is really nice and well equiped, tho the hotel indoor pool is heavily outdated, sticky and not nice. Most important is that since last year and up to 2013 the hotel has a huge construction area which is causing noice all day long and disturbs the view to the mountains. The hotel itself is a collection of connected buildings which causes very long walking disstances to the facilities like gym, pool, restaurant. The dinner food was nice and good tho the breakfast setup was poor. Expecially on weekends the hotel was overcrowed with short term guests and you can hardly find a clean table for four people, you need to wait for cleaning and reshuffling of tables, which is a max of 3 stars. Even more interesting was the management feedback on this shortfall 'we can't change our way of serving guests at breakfast' - here we go, one day they run out of coffee pots, so we needed to order in sequence :(. In principle the hotel staff is very friendly and helpfull. The hotel is clean and has a typical alpine style. It is not worth the price and definatly not 5 stars. The riding facilities are partly in construction mode but the riding hall is nice and new with a good view from the main bar.

I have just got back from a weekend break at Stanglwirt, and I can't praise it enough. As well as being set in a beautiful location, its a wonderfully clean and friendly hotel. The facilities are first class, there is something for everyone from the relaxing Spa to the Tennis, or Golf.
The food and service was also first class. I would highly recommend it.

My girlfriend and I just got back from 5 days at Stanglwirt. We were looking for a good tennis program in a beautiful setting, and Stanglwirt delivered! The tennis was perfect, the service was great, the rooms were nice and the food was excellent.

The hotel is magnificent. The facilities are never-ending. We didn't have enough time in 5 days to do everything we wanted to do (tennis, hiking, biking, spa, day trips to nearby cities, etc.)

Our first room was actually a bit too close to the bar, so we could hear other guests talking at night. When we told the staff, they moved us with no questions asked, even upgrading us to a suite at no additional cost.

The food in the hotel beat expectations. Breakfast is included and consists of a huge buffet including grains/nuts/granola, fruit, cheeses, breads, yogurts, eggs, meats, juices, coffee, etc. Everything was fresh and a lot of it was raised or made by the hotel itself. The a la carte menu for lunch and dinner similarly beat expectations.

The tennis program was absolutely top notch. My girlfriend and I are strong 4.5 level players, and Stanglwirt gave us a great workout along with some good tips. Our instructor for the weak, Raul, is a great teacher and player. The program's director, Joachim, talked us through our options over email and phone in advance of our trip, and even put us in touch with former attendees.

My husband and I lived in Munich for 3 years and drove past Stanglwirt several times throughout those 3 years on our way to the alps and we kept saying, "we should try that place" and we did have dinner in their "Rustic Inn" (where you can look through to the cow stalls) but it took 5 years and we had moved to the USA before we finally made a reservation to stay in the hotel. It was worth the wait! The staff is incredible and helpful. We had a lot of fun with the bartenders. The food in all locations (bars & restaurants) was delicious and plentiful (you can't go hungry at Stanglwirt). One of my favorite memories from this trip (available at this hotel) was our guided horseback ride on Lipizzaners. I'm a horse lover and the opportunity to ride real Lipizzaners in the Austrian Alps was a dream come true! We booked a standard room and we found it to be extremely cozy and spacious, with comfortable beds & bedding, a lovely balcony, a seating area near a wood burning fireplace (we didn't use it as it was summer). The closet and bathroom are both very generous in size. The entire hotel truly exceeded our expectations. One last thing which shouldn't be missed is the spa/pool facility - they have all the standard spa items you'd expect & beyond. There was an indoor/outdoor pool area, multiple different plunge pools with muscle relaxing waterfalls & jets to ease pain and numerous saunas like: real pine tree aroma room, crystal sauna, light therapy, eucalyptus steam, etc. and they are all amazing experiences, we left the spa feeling very relaxed.

We don't get to Austria as often as we'd like but any chance we have to return, we certain will do so! The Stanglwirt should not be missed!

superb austrian hotel, excellent service, very authentic. Skishop, skischool in the hotel, shuttles to the slopes, great spa. Food is good, price is actually cheap in comparison to a French simular ski resort hotel. Rooms are spacious, a bit smaller in the older part but cosier. Very helpfull staff.

My visit to this hotel was in a purpose of a Nanny for one family. So I had room connected to their suite, which was bed room plus small room for kids. Very nice bathroom with huuuge bath.
I also had amazing room with nice bathroom.

Service was amazing, and very helpful, considering that I needed some URGENT help with kids once in a while, and I had their help in no time. Also very excellent and on time when you ask the room service. If I say 7:20am, that is time someone will knock at my door.

Hotel in general is amazing. View, rooms, pool, even kindergarten.
Service is GREAT, and there is no word to describe how they were friendly, polite and welcoming.

Food is very good. Breakfast is probably with so many things to choose from that you end up or overfed of hungry :)

Price is.... well, for me too high, but for people able to afford it - they would surely pay for best service and hospitality!
