“Average at best”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2014

This was supposed to be the culmination of our trip. At least we thought 1 week of reservation and positive feedback of our friends promised that. Very confusing menu, food was over salted. And praised meat was below chain steakhouse quality and flavor. Baked potato was the best dish. Great entourage though.

“Fat food, rather dark and smokey place”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2013

Although the menue promised local cuisine and the open fire place in the small dining room with direct view on their own brewery looked really cosy, the food preapred by the chef directly on the open fire place was rather dissapointing (as in to fat). Furthermore, with some smokers inside, ther room was pretty quickly filled with smoke... with good weather, sitting outside is for sure an advantage...

“Go for the beer”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 18, 2012

Schmaranz, for me, is worth visiting for their beer - brewed on the spot, in 3 different varieties, all worth checking out. The food is of the rich (no 'light' dishes there), filling, winter variety, which goes down well when you're out with friends and family drinking beer - the portions are large, the food is tasty country fare, but nothing remarkable in my opinion. If you're planning to visit in winter in a larger group (ie. 4 people or more), book ahead, as the space inside is v. limited. In summer, Schmaranz also offer their products (beer, sausage etc.) at the Bauernherbst market in Bad Hofgastein.

“family austrian style restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 24, 2012

this is the one you MUST GO! very cosy, very stylish. This is a very little restaurant but with a special spirit. Food is cooked on a fire in front of you; all products are from the farm. Beer is brewed there as well. The food is delicious.

“the farmer's restaurant: to try!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2009

Agriturismo/farmerhouse in Austrian style. Very small but very picturesque place. All is cooked in front of the client on the fire place. Foods are bio and the beer produced in the farm. I suggest this place for a very different and nice dinner mostly in the warm months: when you can eat under the stars in the open air! Medium/low price.
