“Above average rooms by Samet standards”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2013

We stayed for 4 nights. Room and bathroom were large and well appointed. Breakfast was above average compared to the typical Samet resort, but apart from breakfast other meals were largely not available at the hotel. However we did not find this a problem as there was an excellent restaurant, especially for Thai food, 2 minutes walk away, at Samet Villas. The Pavillion was not quite beachfront as may be expected from the resort website but there was a small pool area and the lovely sandy Koh Phai beach was a short stroll away. Koh Phai is a long beach, a 15 minute walk end to end, with various restaurants along the shoreline as well as the usual beach deckchairs/tables available for hire. Getting to hotel can be a trial (same for most Samet beach front resorts) but easy once you know how! Best take a speedboat from Ban Phe - boat crew will offload luggage to beach - leave luggage on the beach and go to hotel who will send staff to collect. Overall we would go back to the Pavilion as the room standards were good and it was in a good location.

Room Tip: Rooms on 2/F facing pool area are probably best - there are no sea views from any of the rooms

We had booked the hotel a few weeks in advance and wanted to check out Koh Samet before we decided that we wanted to stay there more than 3 nights. The island is wonderful! Just great! And the location for the hotel is very good. The beach is not 5 minutes away as some people here are saying! It is perhaps 50 meters! The hotel is situated at the end of Ao Phai beach, which is a good place to stay if you want a relaxed atmosphere, but not too relaxed either.
The staff at the hotel were helpful, but they seldom smiled. The breakfast was ok, but the area was crowded, and it is not so nice to sit and eat at the same place as people are checking in- and out.
The pool is good, but quite small. But it was big enough for us, as we visited Koh Samet in the rainy season. It was not that many using it.
The room was painted in nice colors, but we had to sleep all 4 of us in the same room, and the bed had plastic sheets (witch I hate). The bathroom was clean and well designed, but you could not close the door to the toilet properly (too little privacy).
When the 3 days was up we found another hotel quite close by, as we wanted to stay futher in this wonderful area.

We went to Koh Samed for a two night break, the hotel was nice, very clean and well decorated. Staff at the front desk were efficient and friendly. Nice big bedroom and bathroom with wide screen TV and fridge. Breakfast in the morning was a bit chaos, as we sat in the reception area, waiters and waitresses were useless, they need to be trained. As it was summer when we were there it was very hot in the breakfast room (no air condition), it put you off to have your breakfast. Anyway the food were not very nice at all. Koh Samed is a nice island which is not too far away from Bangkok, will go back again but will try different hotel in the island.

Do not believe the pictures you see on the net. Do not believe the services they offer. We booked 2 room for 3 nights (16-19th June 2013) and reached the resort on a speedboat. Then we dragged our luggage over the beach, up the stairs with no hotel staff to help us. We were checked into tiny cubby hole rooms which were shady and dingy, very 2 star and totally unlike the pictures online.
We went into a bad a mood and decided to go to the beach (5 minutes walk) but our room wouldnt lock. Called the security, who got the engineers and they tore down part of the door and locked it for us. Our luck ran out as we asked the hotel to serve us some pizza by the poolside at 6 pm. They said they had NO CHEF. No food could be cooked in the hotel but they could get it delivered within an hour. We were shell shocked. We couldnt bear staying there. We requested the hotel to move us into a family room with our children which they did. At dinner time, it started pouring cats and dogs and we barely made it to the lobby. The hotel had no umbrellas to lend us so that we could go our for dinner. They said they had NO CHEF and couldnt serve us dinner. But they did offer (and got us) dinner from a nearby restaurant after 60 minutes plus. Thank God for the food.
Breakfast next morning was insane. They handed us coupons which were exchanged for a small plate with one fork and spoon. No coupon no plate (even if their system showed that breakfast was paid for) They didnt replace your plate even if it was dirty after a serving. Terrible food (no spread). We couldn't ruin our holiday further merely because we had paid in advance for 3 nights. We walked out on day 2 (wasting 2 nights money) and returned to Bangkok.
The hotel - resort had 3-4 local staff in the evening and was a ghostly place, with no services at all. We booked on Agoda and asked the hotel to refund our money, which they refused.
I would never advise anyone to trust the pics you see online for this property.
And yes, the beach...when you walk out from this hotel, there is a muddy sewage canal which runs from road, alongside the hotel right into the sea, about 50 meters away from where people are bathing in the seas. YUCK !

Room Tip: Family rooms if at all you must go - sleep 2+2

Koh samed is a pleasant place but it is not really my cup of tea. It does not have good service and we were staying in samed pavilion which is a four star hotel. We rather thought it was a 2 star at first. It is the only hotel in koh samed which has a pool and that too , a small one. It was trashy and the only few things nice about the place were the nightlife and the beach. We were supposed to be staying in koh samed for 2 nights but due to lack of service and terrible condition, we spent surplus money on booking a new hotel in Bangkok. Do not visit koh samed(because I guess only the pictures are nice) Though I do recommend it for those who wish to relax. The white serene beaches are just a picture in the mind.

The hotel is about a 15 minute drive from the main seaport and we arrived late afternoon. There were no bellboys to help with luggage when we arrived so ended up taking myself and my partners suitcases up several stairs to reception. Check-in was ok and room was reasonable in size with a widescreen TV, fridge and a nice big bathroom with glass enclosed shower. Were given wi-fi password but could not connect on mine or my partners phone throughout the stay (as it was only 2 nights we were not too bothered).

Hotel has a small swimming pool and is a 5 minute walk from the beach with a few bars and restaurants very close by. Check out took a while and I was asked to sit down and wait for maid to check my room. After about 15 minutes I told the receptionist a speedboat was coming to pick me up at the beach any minute so he went himself to check our mini-bar and finally checked us out. Unlike arrival a bellboy was there to help and took our bags for us down to the beach which was appreciated.

Overall it was a good stay here but expensive for the price I paid...about 3,000 BHT per night so would not stay again at that price...1,500 -2000 BHT I probably would.

P.s - Make sure to take plenty of mosquito repellent as rooms had quite a few and they are huge and relentless on Samet!
