“very nice beach, paradise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2013

I stayed here in the beginning of april 2013, 3 nights. I love this area, fauna is great, many restaurants and bars on the beach. Very quiet place, no cars, no roads. I stayed in a little pricey(3000BHT) room but seems to be quite new with huge bathroom, it was one of 2 white new buildings behind the restaurant at the rock, 2 large beds and sofa. I didnt swim at the vongduern beach but rather went to the one next beach up the hill which i like little bit better as the beach(sangtian resort i think was the name) was less crowded but both are quite good. Restaurant at the rocks has beautiful view at the sea, but their breakfast was basic and same every day(but it was free, included in price). If i get a chance i will be back, just love this place

Private villas on a nice beach. Pretty restaurant with good dinner, but terrible breakfast. Clean rooms, although there are better deals in Samet. We stayed in a villa with two beds, a large couch and a large bathroom for 3000 baht/night. I believe they have other options, probably some that are cheaper.

As our first trip to Koh Samet, we thought the location of Vongduern Villas was amazing, as it is right on a fantastic beach which has the balance of being quiet by day with enough restaurants and bars to keep things lively by night. However, none of us in our group of 4 considered the standard of accommodation to be reflective of the price paid for a "VIP" Room. These rooms are dated with basic bathroom provisions, a creaky old bed, no room safetybox, and basic television channels. We are not sure how these room types compare to others in the "resort", but as "VIP" and given the price, we thought that they were below satisfactory. Service was satisfactory with the exception of the breakfast "service", which seemed to be too much trouble for any member of staff on duty (coupled with the fact that there is 'no choice' on what you actually have for breakfast!). In general we will return to this great beach but there is no need to stay at Vongduern Villas as there are other options on the same beach that appear to offer better quality for similar (if not lower) prices.

Vongduern is certainly not a luxury resort, but for the price of the rooms, there is certainly not much to complain about.
We originally stayed in a standard room, with a view over the water, which was extremely basic, but suited our needs. We ended up changing to a superior room the next day, as our Neighbour had left large amounts of food on the balcony overnight, & our room became infested with ants!! After we complained about the ant problem, they sent someone to fix the problem immediately, but we still took the chance to upgrade our room, & certainly were not dissappointed.
Vongduern is the perfect resort if you just want somewhere nice to stay, as it has everything you need, as well as the fact that there are plenty of bars & restaurants just up the beach.
The staff are very friendly, and The resort is well situated if you want to just relax, or otherwise explore the island.

Room Tip: We chose a room at the end of the resort, as we still had a wonderful view of the water, without muc...

It began well enough. We took a speed boat to Koh Samet, but had to jump into the sea upon arrival, so walked up the beach dripping wet from thighs down!
Check in was fast. There were 5 in our party, so we had two rooms. One was near the beach, in a Superior room; the other was a Family room, called Deluxe.
The exterior of the Superior room was painted white many years ago, now it is a well worn grey! Inside it was clean, but the cream curtains were very stained and badly in need of replacing. The bed was comfortable, the furniture basic but adequate. The bathroom was large with a big walk-in shower and a toilet. Bizarrely, in such a large room, the washbasin was in the bedroom, right in front of the door into the bathroom, so anyone using the basin blocked off the bathroom. Both rooms had large cracks in the walls.
In contrast the Deluxe room was new, modern and much better than the more expensive
Superior.
Breakfast was included with the Superior room, but not the Deluxe! It was taken at the outdoor restaurant, overlooking the sea. The breakfast was passable, but the staff had skipped their course at the Charm school.
The beach furniture is ancient and poor and there is not enough of it to go around. The beach coffee kiosk was the one highlight of the hotel. It was well run by a lacy who spoke good English and was polite and smiled.
The Pizza restaurant was passable. The shop has very limited supplies.
The return speedboat was very late arriving with no apologies.

Room Tip: Garden rooms are more modern, but lot of steep steps up to them.

Location is a huge plus for this resort. They are one of the very few "good" resorts in this 'Ao Vongduen' beach. Sunshine is the manager of this property who speaks good english. Yes, his name is sunshine. He did offer me a discount on the fare and also was very resourceful. He also rented us a scooter at a great price, which we used to explore the island. I have to mention about the location again. The beach is a small semicircle , which could be about 400 metres in length and this resort is at one end of the beach (semi-circle). This makes the resort very secluded and private and you have the beach all for yourself. Sand, Water & depth - everything perfect here in this beach. If i get a chance, I will get back to Vongduern villa again.

Room Tip: Ask for the beach view - Deluxe or villa. Deluxe is the cheaper of the two

We've just come back from 5 nights in this hotel and have had a wonderful time. We had not been to Koh Samet before, but picked this beach as it was the second largest on the island (we wanted to be in an area where there was enough going on, without being on the main beach). The hotel was lovely and the staff were all very friendly and helpful. Our rooms (we stayed in the superior beach view) were simple but nicely decorated. We had a mini bar and received 2 bottles of complimentary water everyday. The only thing I would have liked in my room would have been a kettle as I enjoy a cup of tea in the morning, but this was no big deal for 5 nights. We had a great view of the beach from our room.

There are 2 restaurants - the beach one and the one on the rocks overlooking the sea. Both pretty much served the same thing. The pizzas were lovely as was the BBQ.

Will definitely return.
