Valuable experience and exactly the best hotel in town. We spend 3days there and no need to go out for any event coz the hotel has everything we need...food, swimming pool, beach....nothing to add for another. Too good and definitely going back.

For the second week of our Malaysian trip we chose Langkawi and my husband decided to spend the week at The Dana. Hard to better the Shangri la from Penang but we were prepared to be amazed and very impressed by the reviews. We had contacted the hotel by email to advise them of our difficult diet (I am gluten free and he is vegetarian... any chef's hell...) and had been told we could discuss this upon arrival with the chef.
We were looking forward to infinity pool and the half board and were hoping to get a nice room as having been told they were allocated upon arrival. First time in Langkawi ... very exciting !
Very grand entrance hall, numerous member of staff rushing to welcome us, beautiful local drink and great back massage... very good start. Oh and we have been upgraded at no cost to a Grand Marchand... oh and our bedroom is a corner with two lovely windows, a great bathroom opening onto the room, a colonial sofa on the balcony, a view on the marina (sun in the morning over the hills) what else could make the first day better... a happy hour by the pool? a great table in the restaurant... gluten free bread on the table before asking... and Chef Mohamed coming to introduce himself and assuring us that we can ask him for anything possible and impossible he will oblige ! (and he did and more !).
We had a beautiful stay for the whole week from the great room (417 not to say) we had been allocated, to the very thoughtful attention of the staff who at al l time were trying to fulfill any wishes/desire we might have (Even Hanz who cleaned my sunglasses by the poolside on the last day)
We loved the infinity pool with its beautiful blue, so lovely and warm water, we always found shade when we wanted it and we loved the cool towels, the bottle of water and the cut fruit.
Little break in the afternoon at Straights the tea room for a lovely scone/macarons and beautiful coffee/tea the staff there did know us so much (thank you for those few macarons on the last day, they made my trip back home less sad...
We got great advice from the concierge and particularly Anya we kept up with us through the week and gave us lots of tips including on the car renting which allowed us to tour the island at our speed for very little cost and minimum hassle.
I had a very relaxing and luxurious time in the Spa where the staff designed a special treatment for me at no extra cost by changing various components of an existing offer.
But the top of the top was the attention we got from the restaurant staff, after enquiring of our diet on the first day, Chef Mohamed designed for me EVERY MORNING a special breakfast completely gluten free and very yummy for this one time I had nothing to envy to any other guest and it made me feel so very special, from bread to waffle and even the local roti bread with fish curry MIAM ! He also made sure diners were suitable for my husband and his vegetarian diet and several nights running designed a special menu for us. What a luxury, talk about getting back to Colonial time,,, having your very own lovely chef discussing your diner at breakfast time, we could never thank him enough for all this attention, him and other staff from the restaurant AMIRAL and MAY who made us feel some welcome and one more whom name I can not remember who made sure our favorite table was reserved for us every night.
The building is all it says on the tin, grand and reminiscent of colonial times, cool and impeccably stylish from the very large entrance hall to the bedroom. (Did I mention the piano playing during each mean?)
I would have to look very hard to fault anything in this place and I am looking forward to going back at some point in my travels to The Dana where I know the staff will welcome me opening the door by a "Welcome back"... thank you for such a lovely week
PS (please have a wee browse at my photos... I assure you the food was DELICIOUS...)

Room Tip: Corner suites are large and sunny 4th floor gives you a goof view, avoid side of the building where...

The Danna is a lovely hotel with beautiful rooms and the best swimming pool on the Island. However it is let down by the food . The buffet breakfast is poor and they cannot cook fried eggs always overcooked. The restaurant dinner menu is the same each evening. The food is not well presented and not what you would expect from a 5star hotel. We ate at another hotel which had 4 restaurants each one excellent. There appeared at the Danna to be at least 4 highly trained chefs including the head chef who spent most of his time talking to guests so overall a lovely hotel which was failed by its catering.

Spent a week here in March in a Grand Viceroy room AI - well worth the extra. Everything is included apart from bottles of wine, but you can get wine by the glass.
From the moment we arrived to a neck & shoulder massage & welcome drink to the minute we left with our farewell chocs was faultless.
The room was spacious, very comfortable & clean & what could be better than having a bath or shower while looking over the bay.
The service we had in the restaurant was 1st class, could not believe the food choices, lobster, chataubriand & excellent local fare. We don't usually rate hotel food but the food in all the restaurants in this hotel was amazing. The service by waiting staff & the chef made you feel really special at breakfast, lunch & dinner.
My husband is not a pool person but after visiting various attractions in the morning, a private tour guide arranged for us by the hotel, again well worth it about £30 for the guide & taxi for about 3 hours each day, he was happy to sit by and in this beautiful pool, having refreshing cocktails & waiting to see what gorgeous nibbles would be brought round.
The Danna is the best hotel, the staff are so happy it rubs off on everyone else making for a happy, stress free holiday. I hope I get the chance to return.

Room Tip: Treat yourself to a Grand Viceroy, beautiful

My partner and I stayed here for three days two nights. We would both agree this has got to be the most amazing hotel we have been to compared to the other renowned 5 star hotel chains, Danna was just ahead of the pack. Staff were well trained, friendly and genuine. From the transfers from the airport to check out, this entire experience has been exceptional.

*Check in/ checkout experience
We were welcomed by friendly staff, complimentary shoulder massage, cold towels (in hot weather this is actually quite pleasant), unique beverage at checkin and checkout. In addition, complimentary chocolates were given to us at checkout as a souvenir, quite amazing.

*Hotel facilities
Facilities of this hotel is definitely exceptional. Infinity pool, sun lounges by the pool, dining by the pool, billiard room, games room, gym, prayer room (for people wishing to pray), library, hire DVDs to relax in the comfort of your own room, needless to say, everything is at your fingertips

*Hotel room
Clean. Fresh. Elegant. Spacious. We stayed in a beach/pool facing room. Simply amazing. We didn't want to leave the room, I think that says it all about our experience.

*location
For those of you who are hoping to relax with minimal disturbances, this is definitely the place to be. The hotel boasts its own dining facilities with amazing breakfast with various cuisines to suit your taste (peak breakfast time was great as food was redily brought out).

There are also restaurants 100m down the road from the hotel - Lebanese, tapas, cafe etc should you wish to go for a walk and enjoy the Marina view.

We went to Kuah which was approximately 25min from the hotel.

*Friday night grill
We were originally hesitant as to whether we should try this prior to arriving. But we decided to go with it as an experience. We would both agree this was truly an amazing first night experience. Buffet dinner by the pool with various freshly cooked dishes also. Traditional dances made the experience very authentic.

Based on our experience, we would highly recommend this outstanding hotel for couples hoping to have a relaxing time in langkawi in hotel that feels like heaven on earth.

Our stay at The Danna was top notch. I can't say enough about the service of the staff.
Accommodating, happy, pleasant, and always asking if there is anything to make your stay more pleasant.
The included breakfast is outstanding with so many choices and even delivered to your table if you would like to order off the daily menu. It has local and western choices and free flow of champagne.
The infinity pool is the largest in Langkawi and poolside service is INCREDIBLE. Sunglass cleaning, cold towels offered, dry towels changed out constantly, cold bottled water (with a Danna label) offered often & free of charge.
Drinks are 1/2 price from 5-7 out by the pool, 7-9 inside at the Veranda lounge (also a fun gathering place!).
I only wish that the bar area around the pool was more inviting to gather around.
Our room was very spacious, had a really comfy bed, was really clean and well appointed.
Fresh fruit & water was always present and when we tried to go acquire ice, the staff insisted that we just pick up the phone and they would fetch it for us :-)

I would suggest skipping the Friday BBQ buffet & dance show. It was quite pricey and just average.
The staff dancers are pleasant & try hard (a bit hokey actually) but for the price tag, they really should hire a more professional performance.

The Danna is very near some great restaurants. My suggestions:
Privilege - Awesome & unique.
Mangoes Bar - Delicious homemade German/European food & dirt cheap. (20RM cab ride away)
