“Superb family holiday location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2009

Very well appointed cottage, in "mini resort" in rural setting, Breamish Valley cottages provided a perfect opportunity to relax and unwind. Good leisure facilities on-site (pool, jacuzzi, sauna, steam room, gym, tennis courts, putting, trampoline, games room, kids play area, adventure playground). Close proximity to Northumberland's historic castles, hills, outdoor pursuits.

we have been twice to breamish valley cotttages , its fantastic. theres loads to do for kids - the trampoline was very popular ,and theres loads of rabbits hopping about on the fields. the ride on tractors and wendy house was very popular too. The pool and leisure facilities were superb and never busy. its about a 20min drive to alnwick and a bit further to the beaches so we went out for day trips and lunch and returned in the late afternoon for a swim and tea. no mobile signal which was a good thing ! but there is a phone on the cottage to use. there are books in the cottages which are written by previous occupants which recommend day trips and places to eat. i would recommend to anyone with or without kids- its quiet rural but there are loads of places to go and plenty to do. if you want open roads and empty beaches northumberland is the place to go. its a shame we cant go back as our oldest child i at school now and school holiday prices are prohibitively expensive-they seem to double, but for babies and pre-schoolers there is nowhere better.

We have now stayed at Breamish Valley Cottages 3 times in the past couple of years. We absolutely love it. The cottages are lovely - beautifully decorated, everything you need and more (including free WiFi and Sky tv). The on-site swimming pool and gym are brill; we used them every day. We also booked some treatments with the beauty lady (you have to book in advance tho). The only potential "down sides": you can't always get mobile reception out there (not a bad thing); and you are pretty remote - about 25 min drive to Alnwick and further to the beaches.
There's no pub within walking distance, but there's a great pub about 4 miles away in Eglingham and a more rough n ready pub in Powburn (The Plough) - both really friendly!
The Cheviots and Ingram valley is on your door step and is lovely - so tranquil. There's plenty of walking and mountain biking to be done, if you're into that sort of thing.
The N'umbria beaches are an absolute MUST. The best ever.
But if the weather is bad and you don't want to go anywhere, these cottages are really really comfy and the sort of place you'd be happy to just stay in and enjoy the view.

  • Liked — quality of accommodation
  • Disliked — too far to a decent pub
