“Great Location, garden room was great”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2011

THE Garden Rooms are separate from the main hotel, looking towards the pool, set out in the beautifully treed lawns/gardens, with the mountains in the background.Very quiet.
Great king Bed, clean, modern bathroom, enjoyed our stay here very much and would
stay there again in the Garden Room. Cannot comment on the hotel rooms as we did not see them at all.
We ate in the hotel restaurant, not sure about this. Waiting staff were very helpful and attentive, seemed to us to have a few problems in the kitchen e.g. Menu listing did not match what arrived at the table.

A very restful spot. Good restaurant, close to town centre, 5 minutes walk to the hot pools. Nice grounds, friendly staff, very enjoyable stay.

Room size good, but the lighing was poor. Once again, the hotel was full of coach parties who totally took over the public areas. We did not eat in the hotel as the dining room looked very old fashioned and anyway was full of coach parties. What ever you do, don't miss happy hour - not only is the wine only 5NZ$, but the bar is a great place to people watch!!

We expected this to be like the Heritage in Queenstown, not so! But still very pleasant. Kurt at reception was very helpful, great service and easy to deal with. The bar staff don't know the difference between a lemon and a lime but the wine list has a selection of beautiful local wines, try the Marble Point classic Riesling.
It was great waking up to a view of mountains and the sound of bird song :)

A tired wooden building close to the thermal pools.

We had a very bad night's sleep because the building was extremely noisy. The wooden floors creak, so we could hear clearly when people walked past our room. Somebody close by apparently decided to get up and take a shower at 5:30 in the morning, and we could clearly and loudly hear the water running. Even earplugs did not help fully.

Staff were nice and helpful, which was a big relief given the earlier reviews.

Mattresses were too soft and bouncy. Strange also the check-out time: Unlike most hotels in the world, for which it is 12:00 noon, this hotel has a check-out time of 10:00 in the morning. It is fairly easy to get it extended, but still, this needs improving.

Dear mugwump8

Thank you for taking the time to post feedback regarding your recent stay with us, I am very disappointed to hear that you experienced a disturbed and noisy night. We are currently working through the replacement of carpet throughout our rooms and during this process we are taking the time to ensure that the floor boards are secured, which I am sure will eliminate this problem.

I am also sorry to hear that you found your mattress too soft, whilst all of our beds are relatively new and we do also receive positive feedback regarding their comfort, bed preference does vary from person to person and it can be a challenge to cater for every individual's requirements.

With regard to our 'check out' time, as we are based in a leisure destination and our guests generally arrive on or prior to our specified 2pm check in time, this leaves the housekeeping department with only a 4 hour window to clean, at times the whole complex. We do however try to be flexible and extend this time when possible to help ensure that our guests are not inconvenienced.

Once again thank you for your feedback and I hope you enjoyed your visit to New Zealand.

Kind regards
Tony Howlett

4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2011

We were doing a trip of the Alpine Pacific Triangle, and booked a garden room at the Heritage Hotel for our night in Hanmer Springs. The room turned out to be half of a duplex-style building separate from the main hotel. It would have been okay, but the unit they gave us smelled of smoke (even though it is a non-smoking property), so we asked to be moved to a room in the main hotel. The staff was very accommodating and gave us a 2nd floor room overlooking the courtyard. This is an old hotel, so there are no elevators, but the room was quiet and the beds and pillows were super comfy. They have a restaurant/bar, an outdoor pool and a tennis court; it was probably something in its day! Just a short walk to the shops, restaurants, thermal pools and i-Site. Walking trails are nearby. It's not the best hotel I've stayed in, but would probably stay again if returning to Hanmer Springs.

We stayed with our 2 boys in a 3 bedroom Villa and it was excelent. Lots of room, good facilities and fabulous beds. Ours had 2 bathrooms which was great but some only have 1. Lovely breakfast was included in our room rate. Hotel grounds are beautifully maintained and we enjoyed using their pool and tennis courts. Location is perfect with a 5 minute walk to the hot pools and minimart. Service was also good. A nice treat for our family.
