“A wonderful getaway weekend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2010

We were absolutely delighted with the location (only a few minutes from Hanmer Springs), the facilities and the service.
We stayed in the cabin which is very well equiped and when you open the main doors has a breathtaking view across the valley to the mountains on the other side.
From the moment we were met by the owners (Lisa and Chris) we were made to feel extremely welcome. All the amenities were explained succinctly.
We elected to have our Friday night dinner with our hosts - it was a very good choice. The food was excellent, beautifully prepared lamb shanks for the main course, a good wine to match and great conversation. Chris and Lisa are extremely knowledgeable about the local area as well as a wealth of information about New Zealand. (I just wish I had taken notes or recorded the conversation!)
Next morning's breakfast basket was more than adequate for two people.
The "Taste of Italy" on the Sunday is well worth staying for. The tour of the olive grove is interesting and informative and the tasting of olive oil and the antipasta platter is good value.
It was great to see two people following their passion and sharing it with other people.
We will defintely return.

We stayed in the seperate cottage at Amuri for 5 days, gazing across the olive trees and the Hamner Springs Valley to the Southern Alps. We would open the huge doors each morning and create ourselves a great breakfast from the basket that Chris and Lisa supplied each day.
Then a day walking in the Beech Forests and mountains, lovely meals in Hamner Springs, soaking in the hotpool , relaxing spa treatments and evening wine with Chris and Lisa. They were the perfect hosts, always available but never intrusive and great for recommending and organising local activities.
We will be back!

We found Chris and Lisa's venue through a travel website. The photos were only a sneak preview of the lovely accomodation and service that we would experience. Chris and Lisa went out of their way to make us feel welcome and "at home".

I would love the opportunity to return to Amuri and would not hesitate to recommend them to any of my family or friends.

Amuri Estate is a stylish and relaxing haven. The homestead has been purpose built to ensure that each outlook is priceless.
The B&B style accomodation is complemented by delightful hosts. Lisa and Chris provide just the right amount of input to make your stay enjoyable, without being intrusive.
Hanmer Springs is a quiet little place but the outdoors are simply lovely.

Winter in New Zealand, and I couldn't have chosen a better place to stay. The entire guest house is beautiful, my room was well-appointed (including heated bathroom floor, soaking tub, gorgeous separate shower) and the breakfasts were wonderful. There's a huge choice, including the times you prefer to eat. I had a great dinner in the nearby village of Hanmer Springs, and explored the surrounding area, but loved returning to the peacefulness of the Retreat. The second evening I joined a couple for dinner at the retreat (prior arrangements made) and had the opportunity to understand just how knowledgeable the hosts are. When asked, Chris & Lisa were able to offer advice about hiking, skiing, treks, thermal pools, massages, etc. They are incredibly warm and interesting, and as I solo traveler, they took special care of me while giving me lots of privacy. If you want even more privacy, there is a self-contained cottage on the property (I did not see the interior.) Since I was alone, perhaps I was a bit snoopy, but I learned just how conscientious the hosts were about energy efficiency, water conservation and sustainability-quite an accomplishment with all the luxury they provide, and now I don't even have to feel guilty about finding the perfect spot! I know I'll return, possibly in a New Zealand summer.

Amuri Estate is set in an olive grove on the other side of the valley from Hanmer Springs. While this means it is a little way out of town the positive side is that it means a suberb outlook across the valley to Hanmer Springs and snow covered mountains as a backdrop.

The hospitality of the hosts, Chris and Lisa, was warm and generous. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, and the Estate itself is quiet and relaxing. A thouroughly enjoyable stay.

Lisa & Chris made us so welcome in their lovely Retreat. From the moment we arrived we could not have felt more at home. The bedroom was very comfortable, beautifully fitted out and had an absolutely Amazing view! Nibblies and drinks with Lisa & Chris prior to dinner was a lovely way to get to know not only our hosts but also lots of great details about the area and suggestions of things to do. Charlie and Uno were good entertainment and it was nice to be greeted by them each morning outside our back door. The home cooked breakfasts were fantastic and left us not needing lunch! We can highly recommend staying at Amuri Estate Retreat, and will definately be making the trip back to stay there again!
