“worth the trip”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 4, 2013

I think I would say that you have to see this to believe it! It is clearly a tourist trap, so picking time to visit carefully is important - there weren't many people there when we were there which made it all the better! It's got a funky vibe and getting out on the water and seeing dolphins en route was also fun - the ride back was a bit bumpy even though we are seasoned sailors, but our captain seemed very safe and in control. We enjoyed some red stripe and some lobster with rice. Laid back place to spend a few hours!

“Must see”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2013

A group of five hired a small fishing boat and took the seven mile boat ride to this wonderful shack bar in the middle of the sea, we chilled and drank red stripe for a number of hours. I have never experienced anything like it and I am we'll travelled. I would recommend this to everyone a great way to chill and catch some rays :-))))

“Quirky activity”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2013 via mobile

It's worth the trip to the Pelican bar - fun little bar on a sandbank so you can swim around while you have a red stripe. We hired a boat for US$70 near the Golden Sands hotel and took the 30-40 min trip. It was fun but quite choppy however coming home was quite scary and dangerous. Make sure it is a really calm day before you take this option. We found out later that you can drive down to a point and take a shorter boat trip out - our hotel was charging US$80 (for 2 pax). Have a few beers and a swim out there - fun way to spend a couple of hours.

“Fun at a restaurant bar built on a reef in the sea”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2013

This restaurant bar is about a half mile off the south west coast of Jamaica near Black River a former sugar port where you can go on safari to see crocodiles. I travelled here from Negril with Reggae Tours on March 14 2013. This is an excellent ground transfer and tour company.

The trip from Treasure Beach to the bar is by a 30 open foot fishing boat with an outboard. The trip takes 7 minutes each way. The menu is limited either lobster with rice or grilled fresh caught fish. Divers spear fish from the reef to order that are then immediately grilled.

The restaurant is decorated with flags and car licence plates from around the world. So bring your own to help add to the collection. Guests have carved their names on almost every possible surface. Bring a hat, swim shoes and snorkel gear. There are a lot of fish, stingrays and offer sea life to be seen as well as lots of pelicans.

The bar is very rustic and a lot of fun. Its busy but i enjoyed socializing with guests from many different countries as well as some locals. It gets very hot on nearby Treasure Beach as well as on the deck of the bar. The sun is very strong here and it doesn't take long to get a sun burn.

The drive from Negril to Black River was on rough roads with lots of road reconstruction underway. The going was slow at times but it was an enjoyable trip. I also visited the YS Falls and zip lines on the same trip. This took a full day from 8-5 to complete.

This is a really unique place and I highly recommend it as a place to visit and enjoy lunch. I travelled here with my wife and teenaged daughters. My teenagers loved this place but I don't think I'd bring young children here. Like the beach in Negril you will smell and perhaps see people using marijuana at this restaurant/ bar. The ganja smokers were discreet while we were there but the odour was strong. Don't go here if you object to having to smell marijuana smoke.
In fact if the odour bothers you you may want to Cuba instead of Jamaica.

The staff are very friendly and helpful. The boat men and the spear fishers were very cool and funny. We enjoyed a lot of laughs on the boat rides. The boats were rustic too but they worked well and the boat men were excellent operators and the boat rides were safe and comfortable. The boat rides also offer some great photo opportunities.
