“We don't play golf”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2012

And yet still we had a great time at this resort for our family reunion. The staff were incredibly accommodating, flexible, human, and nice.

example: the pool and hot tub closes at 10pm, several times my husband and I were allowed to use it at midnight for a romantic get away, and we did not abuse the privilege by making any noise.

example: After an unanticipated large expenditure on auto repairs, the front desk staff very kindly offered me a discount on the remainder of my stay when I tried to checkout early (we were thinking campground at that point).

example: There was a miscommunication between the folks on the Rodd 800 reservation line and the actual hotel- I was told by phone that the resort accepts Discover, my only credit card, but at checkout time, discovered that this property in fact did not. The hotel allowed me to leave and pay by check after I had returned home.( I had not brought my checkbook to Canada). They said they were planning on accepting Discover in the future....

The cabins are gorgeous and the way to go if you can afford it.

Lots to do- kayaking, fishing, canoeing, nice areas for running, my 21 year old son went sailing with some total strangers who offered him crew rights, swimming, hiking, tennis ( they give you balls and rackets, even). 20 minutes to beautiful PEI beaches.

On the down side- the resort is remote. There is one 'casual' dining location and it is not cheap. We would have been better off getting a cabin and buying food... in general, we experienced repeated sticker shock at the prices of food in Canada.

I recently spent one night at the Rodd Brudnell River for a business conference. It is located on the east side of PEI at a picturesque location. The room was comfortable, quiet and clean and the food was very good. The conference room facilities were suitable for our needs. They also have a nice golf course (unfortunately, I didn't have the time to play a round). The only suggestion for improvement is to ensure the water pitchers are kept full on the conference room tables.

You nearly can't go wrong at Brudenell.
This trip, we stayed in the newer cabins at the reort. Very spaceous, comfortable, well apointed, quiet and clean. The staff was extremely fast in responding to any request. The breakfasts were very good and the service excellent.
Through no fault of the resort, the first day, the golf was unavalable due to severe weather, but subsequently, both Brudenell and especially Dundarave were just superb tracks, demanding and long. The scenery was beautiful and the courses manicured.
The only hang-up to a wonderful stay was the extra paid for a Prime Roast supper that was nothing more than a re-heated, overcooked, piece of roast beef. The slices were much too thin and cooked throughout out. Leather sole was not far from a good description. Not impressed by this ''Special'' meal that was $30,00 additional to the package offered. Not only was the food mediocre, but the extra left a bad taste. Stick with the program and forget the add-ons.
All in all, however, this resort is a great value and worth the travel, because the remainder of the Province will make you forget any slight mishaps that may have occurred at Brudenell.

We stayed here for two nights on the pull-out couch in the living room of one of the cottages so that we could attend a wedding hosted at this facility. We were impressed by the cleanliness and abundant space of the cottage. While sleeping two adults on the pull-out couch was not extremely comfortable, when it was used as a sofa it was adequately comfortable. The armchairs were extremely comfortable. The eat-in kitchenette was a good size. The double queen bedroom was huge. It was a bonus for us that there was a television in both the bedroom and the living room. The bathroom was large and clean and well-stocked with towels. I loved that they collected recylclables. Would have liked to see more mirrors - especially one in the living room portion of the cottage so that people could get ready in different areas at the same time. Every staff member we encountered was friendly, pleasant, willing to help, and smiling. Requested items were brought promptly. Special care was taken to make sure that our experience as guests of the resort and as wedding guests was a good one. (ie, some wedding guests were upgraded from hotel rooms to full cottages). The cottages, although attached to each other, were very private. We never felt anyone was looking over our shoulder. Never heard anyone in an ajacent cottage. The air conditioning worked well.
At the restaurant, service was again excellent. The food was reasonably priced (a surprise for a golf club/ resort) and great tasting.
At the wedding, the food served (chicken, prime rib, baked potato, rice, salads, desserts) was all unexpectedly delicious. The desserts were NOT tasteless as traditionally expected of pies and pastries (which often tend to look better than they taste).
The resort as a whole seemed very accommodating. They dealt with a couple of wedding-related disturbances I heard about in a fair manner. Couldn't ask for more.

Beautiful grounds, very friendly and helpful staff. Beautiful room. All the rooms seem to have a view of the river, except for some of the lower rooms facing the indoor pool. We enjoyed having a light breakfast on the balcony looking at the river (yogurt, muffins and fruit we had brought along with coffee from the room). We had dinner at the Club house. It was extremely airconditioned, so we sat on the deck instead and watched the golfers on the last hole. The view there was very pretty with lots of flowerbeds. Best of all, in the evening we went to a ceilidh (fiddling, step dancing, country songs) at the next little town which was only about 15 minutes away. A real PEI evening. This resort can be very expensive at their regular rates, but often has great deals and packages. We paid $99 for the night, which was less than we paid anywhere else in PEI, so the value was fantastic.

Room Tip: ask for a room facing out rather than into the courtyard.

I've stayed here several times over the past few years. It is a nice resort with great golf. The rooms are clean, though perhaps slightly dated. You'll need a vehicle as there is nothing (other than golfing) within walking distance. I'd recommend it for the golfing.

This is a somewhat isolate spot, so if you go, this is preeptty much your destination. We stayed in a 2 bedroom cottage, and the accommodations were first rate, but you definately pay accordingly.
The pools are both nice, although the fitness room is pretty small.
The most disappointing thing here is the food. They claim to have 3 restaurants. Apparently, this is the pool bar (nice but limited frozen drink menu, chips, and ice cream), the golf club house pub (the only place for breakfast, but they do a nice job on both service and food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner)' and the truly disappointing "fine dining" Stillwater has a limited but decent menu, but poor service, and the food is not well prepared. The wild rice was undercooked (crunchy), and in general, the food was all a little on the salty side.
If you like golf, this is a great place to stay, but the food was not worth it (and you have quite a drive if you want to eat elsewhere. The best option might be to cook for yourself as the cottages have full kitchens and gas grills.

Room Tip: The cottages are expensive but very nice. Ask for a waterfront cottage.
