Our first stop on a trip from Vancouver to the Rockies. As you approach Lillooet – in our opinion, a much better place to stop than Whistler – you are welcomed by the beautiful Seton Lake on your left. The B&B sits high above the town with a fine view over the valley. Bruce and Mary made us very welcome – they have a relaxed, welcoming approach and we had a really good chat over a glass of Bruce’s home made wine while watching a hummingbird outside. Our bedroom was a good size and clean and the breakfast was very good – it was nice to sit over breakfast with our hosts. They have a dog – we are not keen on animals but this dog was not ‘in your face’ so it didn’t perturb us unduly.
Eating out options are limited in Lillooet – we used Dina’s which was busy and adequate. Bruce and Mary told us lots about the area and encouraged us to go on a wonderful train ride along the lake shore from Lillooet to Seton [and back] – this is operated by ‘first nation’ people who are very friendly and knowledgeable and happy to stop when the driver spotted some wildlife, including a brown bear! This train trip, which is not widely advertised, was one of the many highlights of our trip to Canada.
The B&B price was very reasonable and I would have no hesitation in recommending Miner’s Rest to anyone.

We had a lovely one night stay at this pleasant B&B in Lilloet. The hosts met us with a glass of home made wine as we arrived and we had a most pleasant chat - Mary and Bruce used to live in Australia, so they were quite knowledgeable about various parts of Brisbane and NSW. The dog is a sweetie - and I am NOT a dog person.

The accomodation was great - a big bedroom with a very comfy bed, excellent linen, plus a huge living area just for us with another pull out bed and a kitchenette and bathroom. Everything was very clean, well maintained, and well equipped. The only thing we missed was a hairdryer but we found that to be the case in many B&Bs in Canada.

The breakfast next morning was substantial and very tasty - I got the recipe for the apple scone - delicious.

Lilloet itself was just a staging post for us - so we did not explore the area, but it was quiet and peaceful, so no complaints. It was however a little hard to find somewhere to eat as we arrived rather late and the choices were limited on a Sunday night.

We just returned from two nights at Miner's Rest, and were very happy with our stay. We didn't know the area, so we chose the property based on the reviews here, their website, and the fact that they took dogs. We stayed in the 'Nugget Room' - a suite, actually - and found it to be roomy and comfortable. It is in the downstairs portion of the house, and lovely and cool in the heat of summer, with a shady, covered patio that looks out over the view.

The owners, Mary and Bruce, were friendly and, at the same time, extremely professional. We were made to feel welcome, but not like we couldn't do our own thing. The breakfasts were delicious, and very generous. They certainly made good on their promise that we wouldn't need lunch! They seemed to have very good local knowledge and we took their advice on a couple of back roads and enjoyed our day trips. I can't think of anything they could have done to make our stay better. If we go back to Lillooet, we will stay there again.

  • Liked — Hosts are great, place is spotless, they welcome dogs
  • Disliked — Lillooet is very quiet - not much to do if you don't like the outdoors

Came out for a 1 night stay and would have stayed longer if I knew before hand about Bruce and Mary and their dog. If you are a dog lover then you will feel really at home here. They welcomed us with a drink on their deck while enjoying the beautiful mountains across the valley. Great location and what an amazing breakfast. Now that we've stayed there the next trip will be for a longer period. Very relaxing spot with some great hosts.

After driving the stunningly beautiful and rugged Duffy Lake Road, we were happy to reach Miner's Rest before sundown. Bruce and Mary showed us our comfortable room and we refreshed ourselves in the en suite. As the setting sun turned the mountains across the valley golden, we joined our hosts in the front room. Over a glass of local wine, Bruce described the history of the area - stories of gold-panners and dreamers. . .

After a comfortable night, I rose early, showered, fixed a quick coffee in our room. I then had a great walk with the house dog, Lilou, enjoying the morning air. Saw the biggest raven and several eagles. I returned to find my husband up, chatting with the Jaffarys over coffee. Mary rustled up a healthy, hearty breakfast - local eggs, sausage and home-baking - no lunch needed today!

Bruce and Mary know a lot about the area and we followed up on their suggestions - saw a historical fishing area on the Fraser River and tried some more exciting (!) mountain roads. Gorgeous country! In the evening, we attended an unforgettable play by a local aboriginal group and a great concert in the Friendship Centre.

Back to Miner's Rest to more comfort and hospitality. A very relaxed, authentic experience. I had no idea that Lillooet was such a unique place. We'll definitely be back!
