“Poor fish and chips”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2012

Without doubt our fish and chips today from this restaurant were the worst example that we have ever had in many many years and the experience was so poor that we felt it necessary to write this, our first, review on trip advisor. The take away meals were so poor that we threw them away but took the opportunity to advise the staff who seemed totally uninterested and unconcerned and the only real comment was "that nobody else had complained today".

The fish was tasteless and breaded rather than battered without any comment that this would be the case when we ordered them and the chips tasted stale. All in all a very disappointing experience and when we delivered our comments and gave the restaurant the opportunity to respond, they dealt with the

The seafood was excellent and perfectly cooked and presented and while not the cheapest around was well worth the value. The only negative would be lack of seating as at least 5 groups were turned away when i was there as it was full. Not to be visited just after the steam train gets in as it will be full.

“A Superb Lunch.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2012

We ate here with our 3 children having travelled up on the Jacobite steam train. We had a selection of shellfish and fish, all of which was superb, with a well-priced, crisp Chablis. The service was very friendly and professional; the location is perfect with a great view of what goes on around the harbour. Not cheap, but without question well worth the money.

“Recommended.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2012

If you're in need of sustenance when you get off the train at Mallaig make a beeline for this place as it tends to fill up quickly at lunchtime. It is slightly on the expensive side but it's worth it as the food is excellent and fresh. If you add to that the pleasant and efficient service by three young ladies with a sample of the local beer, it's a great place to while away some of the time before the train returns to Fort William.

“Fantastic, Yummy, a Treat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2012

We ate here after getting the train from Rannoch to Mallaig and having a 2 hour stop.

There were four of us.

I had langoustine for starter and they were delicious... Not being an expert, the waitress kindly advised what to do with the 'crunchers' (thats the technical term), and the 'scooper'.

For main course, WOW WOW WOW, I had scallops with smoked salmon. Seriously there must have been 6-8 king scallops, I didn't eat my accompaniment of new pototoes... I didn't stop talking about those scallops for the rest of the day.

My husband had curried cauliflower soup, which he said was excellent, whilst my mum and step dad had cullen skink which looked like a meal on its own.

They all had the fresh haddock in breadcrumbs for their main, which again got raving reviews.

The plaice (nice play on words) isn't cheap, the Haddock main course was about a tenner if I remember, with the starters about £5-6. My main was pretty expensive, I think it was about £18, but it was a special meal out.... and was worth every penny.

Would I go back, Yes yes yes, as we visit Rannoch every year and will get train back and definately visit the Fishmarket restaurant.

Yum yum yum yum :-)
