Ive stayed at the Moorings before, and will be staying again...
Friendly, chatty, helpful, easy going owners.
Breakfast tasty and plentiful.
Room fine.

Beds without Valances? Twenty year old decor? Ive not noticed these things, but have i looked for them...? Are they important anyway? ( i'm not staying for a week or two).

Tip: Don;t rely on what other says to be 100% correct.
The phrase including the words 'Pinch' and Salt' comes to mind... :-)

We booked The Moorings for a night in Mallaig. Overall fine, with a good breakfast, although the attitude of one of the managers felt a little more Sybil Fawlty than 21st Century. If you can get past this, then fine. Decor not brilliant, but our shower was great, and things were clean, tidy and reasonably comfortable. Breakfast room was limited, so we shared our table (which is fine, as you get to know other guests). But all of this is fine at the pricing offered - if want a more spacious establishment, then presumably you can find it, but at much higher cost. Great views over harbour, close to station and ferries. Local easy (and tough) walks from the front door. I suspect car parking might be difficult at times.

Room Tip: Most rooms overlook harbour - ask for en suite.

I stayed one day and night before a ferry the following morning. The owner was extremely friendly and helpful and the whole place was spotlessly clean. The following morning she put me at the breakfast table with a couple who were doing the same trip which was thoughtful, giving us all plenty to chat about. The cooked breakfast was lovely and was obviously made from good ingredients. If I ever stay in Mallaig again I'll certainly stay there again.

We booked into the Moorings, run by an couple in their mid to late fifties, for one night, having booked the ferry for the Isle of Skye in our recent short break to travel around the Highlands. House has not been decorated or updated for at least 20 years, our room had a name plate which read "Robert's Room", the room opposite was named "Colin's Room", guess from when their children were young. The room was clean as was the bed linen although the bases of the beds were on show, having no valances! The bed was comfortable and the shower was good although the towels were only adequate size for children not grown adults. We booked for breakfast at 8.30am, having given our choice of meal the previous night with Mr. Carty. Breakfast was abysmal - cereal measured, orange juice poured out prior to our arrival (covered by a napkin), hot water delivered to the table as a jar with screw top, full of coffee, was there presumably to save waste. Then my husband's full Scottish breakfast arrived at 8.45am complete with two rubberised eggs. When asked if we were happy my husband said the eggs were overcooked to which Mrs. Carty remarked that we had arrived late for breakfast which was booked in for 8.00am by her husband! She even brought the diary to prove it and told us this breakfast had been sitting on the hotplate since 8.00am!! Oh and I forgot to add about the added hair! No customer service, no chat about where you had come from, where you were going or wishing you a good or safe journey when leaving. Instead a funny (peculiar) comment about the change she gave us from our payment, out of our hard earned cash!

Room Tip: Book somewhere else to stay!

This was the second time I stayed here and it was much better than I remembered it. We were allocated the rooms upstairs with sea views, both pleasant, clean and tidy, despite the decor being a tad dated.

Jenny was a welcoming host, she is very matter of fact and has a great sense of humour, perhaps one of which some people just don't get. behaviour brewed behaviour and if you are nice to Jenny, she in turn will treat you with equal respect.

I took my little dog and hr was made more than welcome, jenny even treated him to the odd sausage at breakfast.

Breakfast was served At the reasonable time of 8.30am and it was plentiful. Jenny made sure we were well looked after.

They were extremely welcoming hosts and knowledgeable too. My only complaint would be the hot water in the rooms; it was simply too hot for hand washing*!

Mallaig was lovely, the West Highland hotel was lovely for a wee dram and Celtic folk music- the view was spectacular.

I would definitely stay here again, its a pretty place to make a base for a trip to the Isles.

Have just spent two nights at the Moorings. We received a good welcome from Jenny on arrival. Our room which overlooked the harbour was nice and spotlessly clean. There were bunk beds in the room but we still had more than enough space. Bathroom was modern and bright.
We were offered a choice of four breakfasts ie full, scrambled eggs with tomato, a continental or Mallaig kippers. A previous post stated that there wasn't cereal. We were offered cereal so I don't know if this had been an oversight or whether Jenny read it and took note! She also told us that if we wanted to make use of the conservatory we could bring in wine if we wished.
It is well located being central for everything.
To anyone going to Mallaig I would recommend the short boat trip to Inverie on the Knoydart Peninsula. Absolutely beautiful and we were lucky enough to see a whale at very close range. We used Sea bridge but there are others doing the trip.
I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again and I would also add that it is very reasonable

A pretty basic B&B Good location by harbour and near station. Breakfast basic, no cereals. Steep stairs and no handrail to steep steps from pavement. Room cramped by third bed

Room Tip: Ask for ground floor or harbour view
