“Pity about all the rats by the pool”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2013 via mobile

A great place but I was shocked to see five rats come out of the bushes at the place where the ducks are fed, as soon as people had walked away, to eat the dropped food. Can't be good for the children who play there surely?

We note your comment about the rats. Unfortunately, due to the good weather, and what seems to be an endless food supply, they have done very well this year in terms of breeding, and are getting very bold in appearing during the daylight hours! We are very sorry that visitors are having to visually experience this, generally they will keep away from people, and will be carrying out pest control to try and resolve the problem.

However, we do not want to stop people enjoying the experience of feeding the ducks, so currently we are not stopping people from feeding the ducks in that area, but will be monitoring the situation going forward.

“Pleasant walk in the country”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2013

Ryton Pools is a well-maintained Country Park within easy access of South Coventry and the surrounding area. The £2.50 parking fee (or £30 annual pass) is good value for money considering the improvements that have already been made and are planned for the future. Things like the children's adventure playground and organised nature activities are great for families and the variety of walks, including one through adjacent woodland, can be tailored to suit all levels of fitness. The paths are nearly all gravel and can be used year round and one complete circuit (excluding woodland) can be completed in 30 minutes at a brisk walking rate. There are two pools, one of which has a path all the way round it, attract a variety of water birds particularly over the winter months. At present the existing cafe is closed but has been replaced temporarily by a mobile van until the new cafe has been built, scheduled for opening Feb 2014.

“Will try it again”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2013

Although I only live 15 miles away I had never heard of this place until recently so decided to give it a go. I was pleasantly surprised. Plenty of lovely wild flowers. - we found a bee orchid. Looks like there would have been lots of bluebells earlier in the year. There is a super new playground if you have kids and lots of picnic tables and benches scattered around. Only downside was the cafe is currently shut. Also, you have to pay to get through the barrier, so make sure you take £2.50 in change. A bit dear unless you intend to stay for a few hours.

“Walk your dogs & tire out the kids”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 10, 2013 via mobile

Lovely nature walk with nice views and various routes.

We were particularly impressed with the new adventure playground which the children did not want to leave.

£2.50 to park, but great value if you take a picnic and stay for a few hours. I noticed they also had mobility scooters available for disabled visitors.

“Don't bother visiting until September 2013 if you're hungry.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 27, 2013

I visited Ryton Pools on Sunday 27th June 2013.
Paid £2.50 for parking, which is about average so I have no complaints about that.
But after using a makeshift toilet block which stank (I have a good constitution, so can bear most smells), I went to reception to ask where the cafe was. The reply, which was given to me very politely though, was that I'd have to use the burger van which was on site, because the cafe was being refurbished and won't be in operation until this coming September. Great!

Unfortunately, we are still having to use the old toilets, although they are cleaned regularly, the confined space, and the drains are not a great combination. This block will be demolished in September, and we will have temporary portaloos on site. The van selling refreshments does a wide range of snacks and drinks, very similar to the range that the previous cafe tenant sold anyway, and you can still sit inside the old cafe building if the weather is poor. The new cafe and toilets will be a big improvement on the current facilities, so although the transition period may be a little uncomfortable, the end result will be a huge improvement - new cafe should be operational by February 2013.
